How is Reaganomics affecting your community?

That poster is really confused. What does this have to do with voodoo economics (also known as trickle-down economics and translated as "the rich piss on you")? Some idiots seem to lose no opportunity to insert Israel into every discussion. Let's see. We give Israel around $3 billion, but we also give Egypt around $2 billion. We give money to every country when we probably should keep more of it for our own needs, now that we're sliding into a depression. I try to buy locally, but that's hard in a very rural area unless you're talking about produce; some things just aren't available at affordable prices. I've written and phoned my elected reps (Pennsylvania) objecting to privatizing the toll roads and to the bank bailout. Meanwhile I see lots of "for sale" signs on homes because older, poorer residents can't pay the property and school taxes. The local food bank has had an increase in families asking for handouts. I went last month and had to take a number; they had about 50 people on line for a two-hour period. The electric company will take 10% off your electric bill if you can show you're poor, but I'm still having a hard time with the bill because it's very high, especially in the winter. And they are asking for an increase of 50-75% next year. Not sure how I will pay it and was thinking of selling and moving. A friend wants me to go to Maryland but I read that the electric company there got an increase of 72%! Between the water wars and the states going broke, there's probably no safe place to go. My prediction is that you'll be seeing more protests and more violence as the average American will be unable to stay warm or keep the lights on.

Big federal prison gets built at huge expense. Local Judges rule that the prison is poorly built and block its opening. Since it is now a real white elephant, the Feds sell it at a huge loss to a private corporation. Local judges now rule that the prison is just fine and can accept Florida prisoners paid for by the state to this mysterious private group.

Now a big push to "wipe out crime" as prisoners start getting handed out much longer sentences, and proving oneself innocent becomes much harder when coming before these same judges.

There is a widespread rumor that this Corporation is of course owned by these very judges, and of course the food is supplied by a company owned by the (now ex) governor's wife, and of course there is no support for "criminals" if they get cheated all around in food or AC or heat in the winter.

And being Rumor that no newspaper or TV would bother following up it remains that. I have heard the story with more specifics but cannot verify it alone either. Welcome to the new age of fascism.

Florida was among the first states to adopt a "Sunshine" law that all meetings about State business had to be done in public in previously publicly notified meetings. Anyone can imagine how well that sat with the Bush Gang Of Pirates.

The only loophole to that law was if the meeting was in a private Corporation, doing business with the state. That of course suited the GOP just fine and they made almost all aspects of Government private business. Now it is the very worst aspects of GOP crony capitalist "drive up the cost" "cheat on doing what you were supposed to do in the first place" "Hide the salami" SOP-SNAFU.

As a result Florida went from being quite "UnSouthern" in having much better stats then all the states around it, to competing with Texas (also formerly better), Alabama, and Mississippi for the bottom of the barrel.

The State Tourism and Recreation Department recently sold to them all of Lake Texoma State Park, which had been grossly undervalued and sold to the state by the Corps of Engineers, in violation of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Land and Water Conservation Fund Act (LWCA). The Reagan economics has been used here in British Columbia, Canada, for quite a few years. Under the influence of the Fraser Institute, a right wing think tank, the past mayor of Vancouver and now premier, has sold off or contracted out, the transit system, the rail road, the gas company, the electric company, and is now selling off the rights to all the rivers to private power companies. Some of the transactions were with off-shore holding companies, whose shareholders cannot be identified. No sign of the sales money benefiting the taxpayers. We are both run by birds of a feather.

Well meg, we don't really know do we ?? Because our own government lies and won't tell us the truth.

I do know that Israeli children's educations are paid for, but not mine.
I know that most Israelis import foreigners for servants, paid for by my tax dollars.
We could may be ask Israel if they can answer your question, since our Congrss works for their benefit more than ours. But they're busy feeding in Gaza.

How will we handle our state debt? Continue to raise fees, of course, instead of taxes because that hurts those most unable to pay the worst.

Toll taker jobs were privatized. I head some of the child welfare jobs were privatized. That was years ago. The state government is having a big meeting this month to see what to do with the deficits. With the price of housing going sky high the last 8 years, the taxes rolled into the coffers like waves. No one can figure out where all that money went. Now we're broke.

I think my local newspaper does a good job of representing what a number raygunomics did on my community (burb of NYC). Almost no jobs in the help wanted section now and the paper spends it's time talking about everything under the sun except that. About as irrelevant as it can be. Needless to say i don't buy it very often and the number of people who read it is falling off too. It's a typical vacant publication that is filled with fluff so that it won't have to print REAL news.
