Another Road Less Taken
MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
BuzzFlash,
As if being poor isn't enough of a tragedy suffered by many on this earth, the amazing strength we are seeing by the poor people of Haiti, while they wait patiently, with death scenes all around them, for life sustaining help from the outside, is most important to them at this time.
Such tragedy, and yet, there are those sanctimonious voices who travel our airwaves, making millions off of their cutthroat, condescending, and cruel chatter regarding the horrible trials and troubles of others, including the brave people of Haiti. Yes, I'm talking about Limbaugh and Robertson. Who on this earth could be so proud as to want their name associated with the support of such racism and hate on TV or talk radio?
It's years past the time for the churches in this country, that actually do good works and try to live up to what they believe in, to go up against such a hypocrite as Robertson.
This is a mistake in this country when we have people who just allow such hate and vile rhetoric to go on as if these people represent the majority of this country. It's the same in our government. Regardless of how absent the discourse or the actions have been by the Bush GOP, the Democrats stay silent. No accountability asked for and none taken.
I have to say this . . . I hope the people in Haiti fare better than the people in New Orleans, who still do not have homes. Guns were sent into New Orleans by the Bush Administration and donations from all over the world were kept out and found months later, ruined.
Something I wrote in 2005 after the hurricane Katrina . . .
Now, Americans have everything privatized, deregulated, and the news sanitized . . . it feels like another Country. Choose any country that doesn't take care of their citizens or show the slightest empathy for their losses. The U.S. has become that country.
Does it matter if that country is communist or fascist? The people will all feel the same. The people are all treated the same. The dictators all act the same.
The results are all the same . . . disastrous for the people.
Reading how Laura Bush could sit and eat while people stood waiting for food who hadn't eaten in days . . . this is not the America I grew up in and it is not the America that I want children to grow up in. These people do not deserve to lead anyone.
This is just another reminder that a Republican (those in the eye of the public) can always be recognized by their inability to care about others. It's that whole 'bootstrap' thing, I guess. Where do those Republicans in U.S. government get their bootstraps . . . from the American people, of course.
This country is still suffering from the last 30 years of Bush GOP rule and yet, there are those who have no political basis for their thinking, (they are called Independents and proud of it) in that many of them do not care who is at fault for the debt, death, and destruction caused by the Bush Administration . . . it seems that their votes are only for those who can deliver the most ethereal and clever message before election time.
There was nothing caring or clever coming from the mouths of Robertson and Limbaugh when referring to the people who are suffering in Haiti . . . we can be thankful that the majority of the citizens of this country do not follow them. To remain silent and ignore these disparaging voices of contempt, however, is not a cure for such haughty hatred because these people are not going to just fade away. Their hostility and prejudices are here to stay. (Healthcare anyone?) A constant reminder that the 'change' we are waiting for in this country is yet to come, and it will never come from a Republican.
But, for today and tomorrow, our hearts and our thoughts must be with the dead and those who are suffering in Haiti.
Thanks BuzzFlash,
Shirley Smith

A clear demonstration...
A clear demonstration of "Compassionate Conservatism". Their "compassion" is directed only at themselves.
