The War on the Drug (Greed) That Isn't Being Fought

MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON

BuzzFlash,

"I think the enemy is here before us . . . I think the enemy is simple selfishness and compulsive greed . . . I think he stole our earth from us, destroyed our wealth, and ravaged and despoiled our land. -- Thomas Wolfe, You Can't Go Home Again, 1949.

It's certainly no secret what we Americans have been up against for over thirty years of runaway government, spearheaded by the Republican Party of today. From the Iran-Contra affair that was never prosecuted to the warnings received by George Bush before 911 and never given to the American people or to the airlines, to the lies that led this country into a treasonous invasion/occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan . . . lies that have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people, including our own military . . . to the televised deaths of one of our own cities, New Orleans.

Needless war for profit and power brought on by the Bush administration and supported by every Republican in and out of Congress today. Debt that was sold to China. Deregulation's that started during the Reagan/Bush administration that helped to bring Wall Street down as well as our banking system. Until all of that happened and without any accountability . . . I mean these thieving, greedy bastards still have their jobs, don't they . . . and, even their bonuses? And, with all of the problems of debt, death, and destruction that President Obama has had dumped in his lap, and with the attitude of "can do" or "will do," we see the Republican Party that went along with the Bush GOP administration for eight long years, silent and without any questions, doing nothing to help the Obama administration with what they have caused.

Until now, this quotation didn't mean much to me. Today, watching the Bush GOP in action, now I understand . . .

"Power corrupts, but the lack of power corrupts absolutely." -- Adlai Stevenson, quoted in The New York Times, February 10, 1987.

That is what we Americans are witnessing today from the Bush GOP. I think we can expect nothing, especially leadership from this party ever again. Judge them by their own actions. They have done nothing to help President Obama or us Americans other than stand in the way of progress with these very serious problems we face all because of the compulsiveness of the drug "Greed."

We Americans have read about the greed from companies connected to Dick Cheney while in Iraq. The food, the water, the electricity, the gear . . . all caused debt, death, and destruction many times.  There are countless examples on the Internet of this greed for the last eight years.

WASHINGTON — Contractors at one of the nation's major nuclear weapons complexes repeatedly used substandard construction materials and components that could've caused a major radioactive spill, a recently completed internal government probe has found.

Since Nixon, who was never made accountable for his criminal actions, the Bush Republican Party has tried to convince the American people that we are not worthy, that this government is not about "of, by, and for the people." They have gone out of their way to demean the poor, while at the same time give away the jobs, and the power to corporations who support the Republican Party. Over the years, they have used racism, sexism, gays, women, and the rights of their own American citizens to split this country, to divide it and to spread hatred and fear, inciting violence through their TV and radio shock jocks . . . all in what they consider "freedom of speech," without responsibility or fear of any accountability for the results of their actions. Plus, they have no shame, they brag about their resources and money, when we have people starving in this country and around the world. Most of these people are multimillionaires. Many probably never miss lunch or the cocktail hour.

One of their latest dirty tricks to split this nation . . . of course, these southern Republicans aren't fooling anyone other than themselves . . . with them it may still be racism, but politically, it's all about control . . . power, money . . . greed. They don't care about standing up for a democracy. The meaning of a democracy that encompasses all peoples is "liberal." It's certainly not the Right Wing conservatives of the Republican Party . . . when they were in control of US government, the Democrats were left completely out of government as a voice. During the Clinton administration, US government was ruled by the Bush GOP when we got NAFTA, and the poor people of this nation got the shaft, which is where the surplus came from. Republicans only identify with money. That's how they give value to an individual. Don't take my word for it . . . look up their legislation.

After President Obama was elected to the White House, not "selected" by a criminal Supreme Court, as Bush was, these Bush GOP members want to become separate from this country because they aren't in power any more. Judging them by their own actions, they do not believe in a Democracy, a democratic government that gave them the power they used and abused, but in a dictatorial government that Bush believed in . . .

"I'm the decider and I decide what's best." -- George W. Bush to reporters in the White House Rose Garden, quoted in "Tide Turns on Dubya's Wreck," Sydney Morning Herald (April 22, 2006).

Where did that quote come from? Outside the country of course. We Americans could read more facts about the Bush regime and what was going on across the ocean than we could get from the MSM here in this country. Why? Greed. Money and the power that has been used by the Republican Party for years. In Iraq, American money out on the streets buying and selling what Bush wanted to hear from the Iraqi people. Millions of US dollars. US military killed many times by those they were paying to train. How many tears have been shed by the Bush GOP for all of those unnecessary deaths caused by them in Iraq, Afghanistan, and New Orleans?

All we Americans read or hear about are the rants and raves by the Republicans in Congress, on the radio, in the newspapers . . . and all were silent when the Bush administration was in the White House for eight years of debt, death, and destruction. Silence! Now, they want us Americans to listen to them when they have proved for over thirty years that they cannot be trusted with government of any kind. They can't be trusted with government money. Greed is always there lurking in every decision that was ever made by the Bush GOP, and their supporters.

It's so powerful and those who are addicted to it, can't live in a democracy. In order to break this habit, the drug called Greed . . . we Americans need accountability, the jail-type accountability . . . you do the crime, you do the time. That's the least this country can do for all of those people who have suffered and died due to the Bush administration and their supporters . . . the Republican Party of this country. Those are the Bush GOP voices we hear trying to disrupt and voting against everything that the Democrats and the Obama Administration are doing . . . which, in my mind may cause this administration to be softer than is necessary . . . to want to make friends and get along. It won't happen. We already have the laws in US government. We need them used.

Another example of how far the Bush GOP will try to go to embarrass President Obama . . . if I were a betting person, I would say that, knowing Arizona is a Republican State, primarily, Obama was asked to speak so they could try and humiliate him publicly by denying him their so-called honorary degree. I'm guessing, but maybe the ASU would be handsomely rewarded with a more than reasonable donation from the Bush GOP? Ya think?

However, Obama doesn't need their degree. He won the presidency. He wasn't placed in the White House by a politically damaged Supreme Court. He didn't have to buy his degrees and education. He put himself through college, and has a remarkable background from his youth to his career in Chicago. However, that wasn't Obama's highest achievement. It was that he "won" the presidency. And, I'll guess that the Bush GOP thought that a black man or a woman, Hillary, would never win against any GOP candidate they put forth; of course, if they thought that, it would be looking through a racist looking glass . . .  as busy as Obama has been with an onslaught of critical problems due to the Bush GOP, ASU should be proud that he accepted their invitation.

We Americans should feel sympathy for those students in ASU, not for Obama, because of the example that has been set by their college leadership. I've always said that education comes, not so much from our books, we can read books on every subject for the rest of our lives, but from our associations and relationships in schools, and that includes the students, parents, teachers, professors, directors, boards, etc. We learn much more about the world we live in from those people, what they have to say, how they say it, and through their actions.

Listening to the latest from the world of science, they let us parents off the hook and tell us that our children's environment shapes their lives and their attitudes after they leave home. We can only pray that the good common sense we have tried to instill in our children stays with them throughout their lives, even throughout college, when living amid adults who have lost theirs.

Take a trip back to 2006 . . .

"Do you have a professor who just can't stop talking about President Bush, about the war in Iraq, about the Republican Party, or any other ideological issue that has nothing to do with the class subject matter? If you help . . . expose the professor, we'll pay you for your work." -- Bruin [UCLA] Alumni Association, quoted in "Rightwing Group Offers Students $100 to Spy on Professors," -- Guardian (UK) (January 19, 2006)

Remember too, that Bush arrested people, students with the word "Peace," on their tee-shirts. That from the leadership of a democratic nation.

This brings me to another downfall against this country caused by greed, and that is what I call "brain drain." If the US was truly a country of leadership around the world, we would have had healthcare way before our fellow Canadians, the citizens of Great Britain, and France. And, without a free education for all who can do the work, there are many poor children who are very intelligent, who will never be given the dream or choice of going to college, much less the dream or choice of going to our top colleges and universities. We are not getting the full benefit of the intelligence in this country due to . . . yes, . . . greed.

Being proud to be an American today, after these last eight years, especially, takes more than just guts . . .

Knowing that all of the remarks made by the Republican leadership today is not from a belief of the well being of this country or even the world, but for themselves and their supporters . . . all of this, after we Americans have had the poorest leadership ever in our history . . . after we, as a country, are responsible for so much carnage and death in Iraq and Afghanistan, New Orleans, and not to ever forget the Bush GOP war against the citizens of this country, and the fact that we, the US, are now owned by China, also due to the Bush GOP and a weak Democratic leadership in Congress, we Americans still have the will to believe in this country and to overcome these crimes. I can't in all conscience talk about this and exclude what many Democrats did and did not do when voting and we still have many of them who support this criminal Bush GOP in Congress today. Democrats in name only.

Once a great nation of respect around the world, and it can happened again . . . with or preferably without those who call themselves the Republican Party of today and their supporters.

But, recovery will not happen without accountability that will have to come from a war against the worst street drug in our history . . . Greed.

Just a thought,

Shirley Smith

It is the Ideology- Silly!

The Ideology of Ayn Rand, Milton Friedman and insane math of John Nash have created the perfect environment for self serving greed.

Celebrated and amplified for fifty years derived and repeated constantly even in the face of the Bush Cheney years, they are hard wired into the brains of virtually all Republicans and at least partially in a majority of the Democratic leadership.

For those who have escaped the hard wiring, and looked at coldly it seems impossible to take seriously, but until that ideology is crushed with actual reality, huge swaths of the American (& World)public will not even see such greed as a bad thing. It would be like calling a Muslim Jihadi.

If the Gang Of Pirates think that the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat, it is not any part of Bipartisan to accommodate them and roll over and play dead.
