Ad Ignorantium or Ad Nauseam or Both ... And, In 'Others' Words ...

BuzzFlash,
"It is horrible to see everything that one detested in the past coming back wearing the colors of the future." -- Jean Rostand, 1894-1977
Judging from what has been in the news this last week from McCain and Palin, the thought comes to mind, "out of the mouths of babes." One has to wonder how much blood has to be spilled before these bloodthirsty Bush Republicans will be satisfied. Blood that doesn't seem to concern them in that, Palin said that she hasn't been paying too much attention to the (my words) "invasion" into Iraq. Then she is quoted as saying when interviewed,
"And we've got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable," she said.
I doubt if Palin's opinion could be changed even if she knew about some of the facts. But, here's a few, just in case:
The Georgians were the aggressors here, and not only that, it was a particularly vicious sneak attack, undertaken while "peace talks" were supposedly taking place. As Reliefweb put it:

The destruction there has been appalling and it looks as though many hundreds of civilians have died, in the first place as a result of the initial Georgian assault of August 7-8. Gosha Tselekhayev, an Ossetian interpreter in Tskhinvali with whom I spoke by telephone on August 10 said, "I am standing in the city centre, but there's no city left."
Ossetians fleeing the conflict zone talk of Georgian atrocities and the indiscriminate killing of civilians. (snip)
Russian peacekeeping troops based in South Ossetia were among those killed in the Georgian assault.

In the meantime, Russian officials believe that it was the USA that orchestrated the current conflict. The chairman of the State Duma Committee for Security, Vladimir Vasilyev, believes that the current conflict in South Ossetia is very reminiscent to the wars in Iraq and Kosovo.

It's difficult to imagine that these statements are coming from the mouths of those who want to continue to lead this country much in the same way that the Bush GOP has led us into so much debt, death, and destruction without any more thought given to all of that than the crushing of a ladybug. That's not who we are, and our leaders should be a representation of who the people in this country are, not our corporations, who make money off of war, and the fraud that comes along with such aggression.
Here's an example of what our country used to be thought of around the world in a speech given to the AFL-CIO in DC, at a dinner given in his honor, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Nobel Prize winning author who died this year in August at the age of 89. This speech was given in 1975. Just a paragraph:
"The United States has long shown itself to be the most magnanimous, the most generous country in the world. Wherever there is a flood, an earthquake, a fire, a natural disaster, an epidemic, who is the first to help? The United States. Who helps the most and unselfishly? The United States. (snip) Whether you like it or not, the course of history has made you the leaders of the world. Your country can no longer think provincially."
Look at us now. One word in that speech describes our government for the last thirty years and especially during the Bush administration ... "Provincial." Narrow, unsophisticated, limited ... and violent in all respects. In order to be able to kill at random and profit from invasions and occupations, these Bush Republicans had to kill the feeling in the hearts and minds of their followers. What is the difference from getting a laugh out of blowing up frogs with firecrackers and shooting animals from the safety of an airplane for sport? Many Americans treat their animals like members of the family ... it would be hard to think that any of them could be so callus as to kill for sport.
We all do come from the same atoms. We are part of our earth and our universe. It stops there. Maybe we should reach back into our past and try to recapture what was good about this nation ... from our indigenous fellow Americans comes food for thought.
In "Footsteps of Wisdom" from Red Cloud Indian School in SD, there is a slogan that should be given much thought to with our public schools: "To educate the heart as well as the mind is our sacred trust."
Are we educating the hearts of our future generations, and what happened to those past generations who believe in killing because of what they "think" might happen? Also, let's point out that many of us were not fooled by the lies put out there by the Bush administration, so where was our government, and duties of checks and balances?
And, from St. Joseph's Indian School ... "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." Matthew 5:9 ... It should give us all the sense that this nation has ... in the words of those Republicans who arrogantly like to shove their beliefs down the throats of all other Americans ... backsliding, the US has become a nation of slipping and sliding backsliders. We hear the preaching or self-righteousness, those narrow paths of beliefs, and some have tried to interfere with innocent lives in this country and still want to change the laws, how soon before we have the witch trials again and people burning on stakes ... and, how do they explain turning their backs on the reality that the rest of the world, (American citizens too) has had to face because of US government under the criminal and treasonous Bush GOP regime.
We have come a long way backwards, and to hear the lies and deception and threats of more debt, death, and destruction coming out of the mouths of McCain and Palin ... and yet, people get angry if we don't put "Under God" in our pledge of allegiance ... do we have to advertise this country's hypocrisy and lost reputation, where we have become exactly what thousands have died to save?
And, to bring Palin up to date ... from BuzzFlash, we wouldn't want her to worry her little head about it too much ... (sarcasm)

Nothing more to be said. The only reason we are hearing such outlandish lies from the McCain/Palin team is that they don't fear accountability in the same way that the Bush GOP hasn't had to fear it ... but, we Democrats who believe in this country aren't through yet.
"Perhaps in time the so-called Dark Ages will be thought of as including our own. -- Georg Christoph Lichtenberg, 1742-1799
Who could have predicted that we Americans would ever have a government that would throw away everything this country has been known for and allow the Bush criminal administration to carry out the invasion of another country that never threatened the US in any way. Who is going to seriously threaten a nation like the US who has the largest stash of WMD? They aren't that stupid? However, what does that say about those who want to go along with the lies. It's down another path of destruction . . . our own.
I'm still proud to be an American, a liberal American, and I refuse to identify with any of the Republicans who have supported this treasonous Bush GOP regime, and these people, these Bush GOP people do not and have not ever represented this country, our democracy. Bush never won an election. Remember that. Fraud, election fraud is the only way these Republicans have ever been able to win. Accountability is what will bring this country's respect back throughout the world.
If it takes the dishonesty of election fraud, including the ads, the interviews, the stark lies, or the scams for these Bush GOP candidates to win, these are all old Bush GOP techniques and we Americans have seen what happens when people follow the same old, tired lies, and keep voting for such a regime, that has not been made accountable yet. If they were to be painted or tainted with the debt, death, and destruction that all of these Republicans have supported, how can they even think of leading this nation down that blood-filled path again? How did killing unarmed men, women, and children, for gawdsake, get to become so easy and acceptable to these people? And, how did it get to be all wrapped up and packaged with their own religion? How many people go to church and hear preachers preach about killing innocent people? Violence and vengeance for the thrill of it. For the profit in it.
Why don't the Republicans care that their candidates should at least know what they don't know, ya know? Why shouldn't we Americans demand that our leaders be smarter, not more tricky, more cunning, more devious, more dishonest, more bloodthirsty, but more intelligent, more caring, more responsible than the average American citizen? This job calls for it. If there's "one thing" that the Bush administration taught us, it should be that we already know what happens when all of that is lacking. How many years does it take to prove to most Americans that we cannot afford to have these Bush Republicans in charge of our government, ever again? They are destroying us!
Thanks BuzzFlash,
Shirley Smith
