The Affordable Healthcare Bill: DOA or Just Comatose?
Submitted by meg on Thu, 03/18/2010 - 2:16pm.MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
Buzz Flash,
No, I'm not talking about the healthcare package that is being tossed around Congress today. I'm talking about what the majority of the American people wanted from our members of Congress: single payer or public option.
There are two things that should never be in control of politicians or corporate America and they are healthcare and education. Yes, we Americans live in a great country, and we had a great start at the beginning of the last half of the 20th century.
Then came Nixon. Nixon ran on the promise to end the Vietnam war, then after five profitable years for some, and many more dead... it was ended.

Power does not corrupt men; fools, however, if they get into a position of power, corrupt power.
-- George Bernard Shaw, 1856-1950
BuzzFlash,
How many Americans wonder why the Bush GOP in Congress has become the Party of No? Refusing to work for the American people and cooperate with the Obama Administration, especially when they and the Bush Administration are responsible for the highest debt ever for this nation, and what's more surprising is that they are not timid about refusing to do their jobs and work in government for the people of this nation, and try to undo what they did under the Bush/Cheney/Rove regime.
Do these actions of refusing to work for the people of this nation mean that they actually believe in a "one party" system, and only if the Bush GOP is that party? Again and again, the American people have to be reminded that we had eight years of silence by these same Republicans. Whatever Bush/Cheney/Rove wanted, they got with full approval.
There's a history about another political party, and, at one time, a very small political party: the National Socialist Workers' Party. Over a period of years, 1921 to 1933, this party went from a small party to a national party, and became ruthless enough to suppress any opposition. How? By using the anger and distress of its citizens, and blaming the innocent.

Conservatism
He learns how stocks will fall or rise
Holds poverty the greatest vice;
Thinks wit the bane of conversation,
And, says that learning spoils a nation.
-- Matthew Prior, The Chameleon.
BuzzFlash,
Sadly, things haven't change much since that verse was put into print. I watched the two hours of the GOP retreat on MSNBC with Olbermann, Maddow, and Mathews. This is the first time as a citizen and as a Democrat that I saw President Obama stand up to the Bush GOP.
He was very impressive. To start with, we saw no TelePrompTer, no notes, no microphone in the ear, and no bulge on his backside. He knew facts and figures and he knew what he was talking about. Those members of the GOP who were proposing questions, had more dialogue than questions before they would get to their questions, almost as if they were politicking. President Obama would remind these Republicans when they tried to talk about the job loss and the debt, that this did not happen on his watch. These mishaps happened on the Bush administration's watch in DC, and he explained to them exactly why and how it all happened.
When I first heard of the GOP retreat and of the invitation for President Obama to join them, it was so Rovian in my mind. Because this is how they (GOP) would get away with the use of subterfuge and the usual Republican spin. However, Obama insisted on it being televised.

The Animated Appeasement of the Dems
Submitted by meg on Thu, 01/28/2010 - 2:42pm.MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
No man can tame a tiger into a kitten by stroking it. There can be no appeasement with ruthlessness. There can be no reasoning with an incendiary bomb.
-- Franklin D. Roosevelt, Fireside Chat, Dec. 29, 1940
BuzzFlash,
If I understand correctly, Obama said that his administration got the money back from the banks, but those enormous bonuses were not part of that, I guess. So, the bank robbers still made out and can live happily ever after.
It was clear from the beginning that it would be considered very impolite and politically incorrect to say anything negative about Obama's first SOTUS. The most profound statement to me was from a pundit on Olbermann's show after the speech who basically called it the most conservative speech heard since the mid-term of the Clinton Administration.

Another Road Less Taken
Submitted by BuzzFlash on Fri, 01/15/2010 - 3:59pm.MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
BuzzFlash,
As if being poor isn't enough of a tragedy suffered by many on this earth, the amazing strength we are seeing by the poor people of Haiti, while they wait patiently, with death scenes all around them, for life sustaining help from the outside, is most important to them at this time.
Such tragedy, and yet, there are those sanctimonious voices who travel our airwaves, making millions off of their cutthroat, condescending, and cruel chatter regarding the horrible trials and troubles of others, including the brave people of Haiti. Yes, I'm talking about Limbaugh and Robertson. Who on this earth could be so proud as to want their name associated with the support of such racism and hate on TV or talk radio?
It's years past the time for the churches in this country, that actually do good works and try to live up to what they believe in, to go up against such a hypocrite as Robertson.
This is a mistake in this country when we have people who just allow such hate and vile rhetoric to go on as if these people represent the majority of this country. It's the same in our government. Regardless of how absent the discourse or the actions have been by the Bush GOP, the Democrats stay silent. No accountability asked for and none taken.
Tornadoes and Terrorists: What Do They Have in Common?
Submitted by BuzzFlash on Fri, 01/08/2010 - 11:43am.MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
BuzzFlash,
We will always have certain weather patterns that will bring on tornadoes, some that cannot be predicted when or where and the same pattern can be said about those who hate us. What is maddening is the fact that for over 30 years, democracy has been in a battle with our own people, today, those people are known as the Republican Party and anyone who supports them, including some Democrats.
They have used and abused the word "terrorist" as in their so-called "War on Terrorism," and such a remark should mark this political sham of a Party for what it really stands for. Why? Because the very statement such as a "war on terrorism," is a stupid and empty statement. War is terrorism. Violence of any kind is an act of terrorism. And, if the Bush GOP wants more of a definition . . . when we have a whole Congress of Republicans refusing to do their jobs, instead, they are trying to spread fear and blame throughout this country . . . that is an act against democracy and because of the terrorist acts committed for the last 30 years by the Reagan/Bush/Bush regimes . . . we Americans are misunderstood and hated around the world.
The U.S. is today a military regime and is feared around the world because of what the Bush GOP and U.S. military have done around the world, putting terror into the hearts and minds of citizens in various countries around the world and that hate and terror will exist in those minds for many years to come. And, because U.S. government has failed (failed also by funding such a military when we are not defending this country, but this country is constantly killing innocent people in other countries) to make those in U.S. government accountable for all of the debt, death, and destruction, people around the world think this U.S. government represents the people of this nation. The message is real and clear, and so is their hate and fear. Remember, before the attack on the CIA in Afghanistan, it was reported that the U.S. had killed eight children. Thousands of young people (and our own) around the world have died early deaths due to the U.S.
Why The Rush For Fools Gold?
Submitted by BuzzFlash on Fri, 12/18/2009 - 11:39am.MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
Buzz Flash,
"Gold, which leads [us] everywhere, has become our national God. There is only one vice, poverty; one virtue, wealth. If you are not rich, you are scorned. Diderot, Conversation of a Father with His Children, 1772.
The above makes sense when we know that this country has an elite group that owns more than the other 95% who live in this country. Not everything that glitters is gold. We Americans have learned much during these last nine years. We've learned that our "employees," those who are supposed to work for us in all three branches of U.S. government . . . never think about that fact. They don't even think of us Americans as being their employer.
Pyrite - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is a kinda, sorta depressed feeling this holiday season that's in the air. It's not a euphoric sense. It's a sad sense. Americans are out of work, out of money, and those serving in US military, still out of the country . . . people have so many problems they face, including the lack of good and affordable healthcare. We Americans put so much hope into this new administration, thinking, mistakenly that Obama and the Democratic Congress would turn things around. Thinking that they would start turning things around immediately. Stop the debt, death, and destruction of people's lives that was caused by the Bush GOP administration. But, they didn't, and they haven't. They spent most of their time trying to make friends with the Republicans who are responsible for bringing this country down on its knees and owned today by China. We don't need those kind of friends in U.S. government.
Birds and Words of Prey
Submitted by BuzzFlash on Fri, 12/11/2009 - 12:25pm.MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
Buzz Flash,
What are words worth? Thousands upon thousands of innocent lives.
In just a few weeks, we Americans have been witness to, day after day,
watching our Congress discuss, talk, argue, and then more talk, not about the war in Iraq costing over a million lives, and not about the invasion of Afghanistan, but about the cost of saving American lives with decent and moral healthcare.
Yes, still invading and occupying Afghanistan because of bin Laden, who, by the way, just in case many Americans don't remember, had about 20 (?) or more followers living in the caves along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan . . . the U.S. military, had just about the same reasoning for invading that country as they, Bush/Cheney's military, had for invading Iraq . . . "NO REASON." These two countries were no threat to the U.S. We were not defending ourselves from them. The Bush Administration knew about those men who took down the planes on 9/11, and we read about them, where they were for months before 9/11 took place.

Political Theater of the Absurd
Submitted by BuzzFlash on Fri, 11/20/2009 - 12:12pm.MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
Buzz Flash,
Tragedy/Comedy: Tragedy and comedy are simply questions of value; a little misfit in life makes us laugh; a great one is tragedy and cause for expressions of grief. Elbert Hubbard, The Note-Book, 1927
Tragedy was the election in 2000 due to election fraud and the partisan, political interference of the U.S. Supreme Court that will forever tarnish that court. After that, it was one tragedy after another for eight long years. The Bush GOP members of Congress are talking about the trials in New York regarding 9/11 as being dangerous. The world is dangerous today because of the Bush GOP regime and their acts of terrorism around the world, using as an excuse, the word, terrorism, as in "fighting terrorism." Every act of violence is an act of terrorism. Just ask the victims. Bush, right after 9/11, bombed and killed close to 5,000 innocent people in Afghanistan. People, who had nothing to do with bin Laden or 9/11. Think about that number of deaths due to revenge. An action to please the blood thirsty people in this country at the time. No leadership at all in that action. It was cold-blooded murder.
Bush and Cheney had two to three months of warnings before 9/11 and took them seriously enough to warn friends not to fly commercial flights, such as Ashcroft and Willie Brown to name a couple who confessed of being the recipients of such warnings. Just as we Americans experienced for eight long years of the Bush/Cheney GOP leadership . . . no thought as to what their actions or lack of actions would cause to others, including the airlines. Why no accountability? Why do the Bush Republicans get to pick and choose what they want to remember about history? They remember 9/11, but fail to remember that if Bush had been a responsible resident of the White House, and had the American people and the airlines been warned, 9/11 most likely could have been prevented.
