MUST READ: President Bush's Reality

Washington, DC - Instead of using the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks as an opportunity to unify the country, President Bush instead marked the solemn occasion by using divisive and misleading rhetoric once again falsely conflating the war in Iraq and the war on terror. An editorial in today's New York Times notes that "Iraq had nothing to do with the war on terror until the Bush administration decided to invade it." The President claims that America is safer today because of the Iraq War. Unfortunately, the opposite is true.

According to the latest Time poll, not only does the public no longer believe there's a link between 9/11 and Iraq, but in fact, the public feels the Iraq War has hurt the war on terrorism.[Time, 9/5/06] The Bush Administration and the Republican-led Congress have blocked Democratic efforts to enact the bi-partisan 9/11 recommendations and fund critical programs to protect America. Democrats want a new direction for America and will make critical investments to secure our ports, airports, and transit systems - the equivalent of what's being spent for three weeks in Iraq.

President Bush's Reality
Editorial
The New York Times
September 12, 2006

"...Mr. Bush has been marking the fifth anniversary of Sept. 11 with a series of speeches about terrorism that culminated with his televised address last night. He has described a world where Iraq is a young but hopeful democracy with a "unity government" that represents its diverse population. Al Qaeda-trained terrorists who are terrified by "the sight of an old man pulling the election lever" are trying to stop the march of progress. The United States and its friends are holding firm in a battle that will decide whether freedom or terror will rule the 21st century. If that were actual reality, the president's call to "put aside our differences and work together to meet the test that history has given us" would be inspiring, instead of frustrating and depressing.

"Iraq had nothing to do with the war on terror until the Bush administration decided to invade it. The president now admits that Saddam Hussein was not responsible for 9/11 (although he claimed last night that the invasion was necessary because Iraq posed a "risk"). But he has failed to offer the country a new, realistic reason for being there...If such a strategy exists, it seems unlikely that Mr. Bush could see it through the filter of his fantasies.

"It's hard to figure out how to build consensus when the men in charge embrace a series of myths. Vice President Dick Cheney suggested last weekend that the White House is even more delusional than Mr. Bush's rhetoric suggests. The vice president volunteered to NBC's Tim Russert that not only was the Iraq invasion the right thing to do, "if we had it to do over again, we'd do exactly the same thing."

Cheney Says We'd Do It Exactly The Same

No surprise this. After all President Truman said the same thing after he nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He just cou ldn't face up to his having ordered the incineration of a quarter of a million people. Bush on the other hand, having no conscience, couldn't care less about all the death and destruction he's causing with his Iraq war, because, like most politicians, covering his ass is his primary concern, along with how the hell he''s gonna escape being tried at the International Court of Criminal Justice on the charge of having committed crimes against humanity. No chance, though, that he'll escape this trial, being that once he's impeached, he's as good as on his way to that Court, and ditto for Cheney and all the rest of President Bush's gang of mass-murderers.

We are not safer

I am glad to see the Democrats standing thier ground and getting tough. I hope when we win they will start investigations immediately. About everything this administration has been up to. If we think they are evil now, just wait till the wrapping comes off.
