Teabaggers Now Have Surpassed GOP as "Party of Choice" on the Right, Poll Indicates
BUZZFLASH EDITOR'S BLOG

No wonder the GOP Capitol Hill bigwigs are kissing the behinds of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. Along with Sarah Palin and the FOX Fraudcasting stable of shills, they now are the Pied Pipers of right wing nut job populism.
That's according to a Rasmussen Poll that indicates the GOP is in the back of the pack as far as party preferences, with the Tea Party identifiers (although it isn't even an official national party) far ahead of the Republican Poobahs.
Titled "Tea Party Tops GOP on Three-Way Generic Ballot," the Rasmussen telephone survey reveals:
Running under the Tea Party brand may be better in congressional races than being a Republican.
In a three-way Generic Ballot test, the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds Democrats attracting 36% of the vote. The Tea Party candidate picks up 23%, and Republicans finish third at 18%. Another 22% are undecided.
Among voters not affiliated with either major party, the Tea Party comes out on top. Thirty-three percent (33%) prefer the Tea Party candidate, and 30% are undecided. Twenty-five percent (25%) would vote for a Democrat, and just 12% prefer the GOP.
Yes, the Teabaggers are being manipulated by demagogues who are advancing the interests of global corporations to fleece the sheep, as well as religious "Dominionism" in the case of Sarah Palin. But the Teabagger movement is definitely a populist one, even if it's being manipulated.
Unfortunately, President Obama's logic, reason and aplomb is not populist. He's part of the establishment now, imprisoned in a system that derails the tracks of change onto the main track of elite rule by the oligarchy.
That leaves a huge opening for the manipulators of emotional frustration on the right (along with the racists) to channel the anger that should be directed at Wall Street and global corporations that have offshored America's production capacity, to channel that grassroots anger at Obama, Democrats, liberals and progressives.
It's sort of a well-financed "K Street" bait and switch of blame.
Yes, the GOP should be worried when they come up short trailing the Teabaggers, who aren't even officially a party.
But as ignorant as Sarah Palin is, she's got energy galore and a rough-edged passionate sense of victimization that appeals to the white low wage earners and jobless who are looking for someone to blame, and Sarah serves it up on a heaping plate of "it's all the fault of the liberals."
The Democratic Party long ago abandoned the populist FDR strain that used to animate a good portion of the Party. The Dems largely have left the working person behind in return for campaign contributions from Wall Street and big corporations. Oh yes, we'll still vote for a Dem over a Republican, because the Democratic Party as a whole is more secular and relatively more culturally progressive, but as far as economic disparity, the Dems aren't doing much to close the ever widening gap between the rich and the poor.
The Bush tax cuts for the super rich are still in place, aren't they? And they helped to deep six our economy, along with a gilded Wall Street crew of gamblers who keep getting richer no matter how much destruction they leave in their wake.
FDR showed that he empathized with "the forgotten man (and woman)." Obama is a brilliant Harvard/University of Chicago lecturer, but he left the community organizing of those less well off behind long ago.
That leaves Palin et al with a mile wide opening to champion the former middle class, because whatever you think of her, she's an energizer bunny who hits the right emotional keys (which is what demagogues do).
Palin's animating spirit (although she's good at keeping it under raps) is her religious motivation that comes from her affiliation with an extremist Christian cult, but the result is a "leader" of those who feel left behind.
Obama is now in the bubble, with all of us left speculating whether he's playing some multi-tiered chess game that will come together in an incredible progressive victory in a year, or if he is just up against forces beyond his ability to challenge.
Meanwhile, the right wing representatives for the corporate elite are following the Goebbels scapegoating strategy to a "T." Right wing populism is sheep herding, but now the sheep now outnumber the Republicans.
And if the Democrats don't start passionately engaging and providing benefits to the forgotten men and women in America, after 2010 Capitol Hill is going to be filled with pawns of multi-national corporations who blame liberals for all their problems while they enable Wall Street and having their own pockets picked.

Better Version of Ross Perot Can Win in 2012
In June, 1992, Independent candidate, Ross Perot, led the polling with 39%. Unfortunately, Perot was a flawed messenger with a good message. Obama & the Blue Dogs will remain corporate owned. Neither one of them represent Main Street USA. The time is ripe for an Independent to run. I believe Perot could have won if he had not been thin skinned, dropped out for awhile & chose a very poor VP. The American people are fed-up with the two-wings of the American Corporate Party. I suggest progressives consider a Perot type candidate. The argument for not electing an Independent because they lack party members in Congress is bogus. The POTUS is very, very powerful. Congress has given-up its Constitutional power to determine our wars. The President appoints Supreme Court justices, too. Now, the Democratic Party is in power. How's that going, with the GOP, Blue Dogs & Obama turning their backs on us? We need to shake the DC Bubble & then burst its engrained power grid. No POTUS from the two-major parties will do it. We must act...now! How does the "Main Street Party" sound?
How could I forget Anna
How could I forget Anna Netrebko ? I was so lucky to see her in La Bohème ( of course I cried at the end ...) university partnership ( university partnership program )
As An Ex-Perotista...
...there are a few things I feel need saying.
It's true that Perot's thin-skin and rubber spine were bad image problems, and his choice of Stockdale as his VP was terrible, but he did resonate with a certain bloc of the Republicans who remain deeply alienated with the GOP mainstream today. This bloc could be a good base for a center-right candidate, but is yet another center-rightist what this country needs right now? The ones we've had for the last 50 years have been the death of our economy - and soon, our freedom. For even if they themselves don't bring it about, continuing to follow this path is a sure recipe for corporatist fascism when the needy people rise up to reclaim their lost birthrights and the corporations fight back.
The problem with calling for the next Perot is that I didn't see any other progressives when I attended the 1996 Reform Party Convention. The bulk of those attending were married to corporatist Republicans on their way to the GOP Convention in San Diego. I didn't see any Peace and Freedom members or Greens in Long Beach. If they had made themselves known, they might well have suffered grievous bodily harm. It was testy enough that I was supporting Richard Lamm over Perot!
So while I agree that it's time for an independent to run again, another Perot is not the solution this time. He might well have helped to prevent the current fiscal calamity, but the issue is now the welfare of the people of this nation. Unless one wears a military uniform, Perot doesn't see you. He isn't the prototype for what we need. FDR is - and he died.
Wecome to Idiocracy!
There has never been a better time for a studio wrestling president.
Or a half baked Alaskan dim wit president.
From the article:
"after 2010 Capitol Hill is going to be filled with pawns of multi-national corporations who blame liberals for all their problems while they enable Wall Street and having their own pockets picked."
Oops! To late!
That happened in 2008!
Baggers etc.
I think you don't exactly understand the "baggers" point... they are anti-gov; anti-bureacracy; anti-excessive, unfair, unconstitutional taxes; and anti-corporate and international welfare.
So why are we paying corporate welfare?? or to nations that don't need it welfare??? or all of these other expenses that effect the person on the street without any benefit??? And why does the red-tape (FDA, EPA, CDC, etc.etc.) protect the corporations?? We see it in every area of American life -- pharma, insurances, pollution, taxes... Military to help oil companies... on and on.
It's still all about the money. And about the lobbyists for the corporations, payoffs for the elected representatives, the Federal Reserve game, the drift between rich and poor. Sometimes the excuse for corporation perks is to create jobs.... well, if the redtape didn't strangle the creative individuals who want to start (or keep) their own businesses alot of people would create their own jobs, in their own communities or join together for their own co-ops or employee owned businesses. That is the american spirit. It is being strangled (to maintain control). Those who don't feel creative can go ahead and work for others in their safe cubicles. But those who want to work on their own need to be allowed their creativity and ambition within ethical limits. And the same ethical limits should apply to Big business.
As for Obama, I hope he is playing a very smart multi-tiered chess game as you mentioned... or walking the razor's edge to make as much change as possible without disturbing some greedy insane dragon protecting the (stolen) jewels. If not, we're following the same greedy historical path to collapse.
You're Ignoring Something About the Teabaggers, Alice. . .
Not only are they anti-government, anti-bureaucracy, anti-corporate and taxophobic, they're also LILY-WHITE and OPENLY HOSTILE TOWARD NONWHITES, their denials to the contrary notwithstanding.
Indeed, the blatantly racist caricatures of Obama that the teabaggers have displayed during their rallies -- without ANY of them raising their voices in protest against those caricatures -- belie their denials.
Also ignored...
The tea bagger movement did not spontaneously originate from the grass roots, it is artificial astro turf, funded by the upper 1% plutocracy, who owns the multinational corporations and lobbyists, who in turn, corrupt our politicians into committing mutiny by voting against the best interests of WE THE PEOPLE.
The point is, the former Republicans but now tea baggers, are once again fighting and voting against their own best interests, which is much more obscene than the original meaning of tea bagging.
True
Yes, exactly. Mark, you have it exactly correct. You know this was relatively easy to spot in the primaries. We knew where the candidates stood - Obama was a middle of the road or even right of center Democrat. Hillary is of similiar political cloth. It is people like Alan Grayson, Bernie Sanders, Dennis Kucinich, Howard Dean, Mike Papantonio, RFK Jr., that must take hold of the Democratic party. Either that or we must pass instant runoff voting legislation that would allow successful third party candidates to win elections. The "Baggies" could win the Republican nomination and become one of the two Presidential candidates allowed (realistically) under the current system. We need to do the same on the Democratic side - form a powerful Progressive force to out-flank the corporate Democrats and win the Democratic nomination. A strong Progressive vs a "Baggie" and we win. Obama (re-election) or another corporate Democrat and we may lose to a "Baggie".
More third parties? How about the Prostitution Party?
We don't need more political parties. We need less lobbyists and more government financed political campaigns.
It's not the two party system that is corrupt, it is the political campaign fundraising process that turns political candidates into prostitutes for the multinational corporations and upper 1% plutocracy.
Outlaw political prostitution, legalize real prostitution!
Two-Party System is Fixed
It's fixed by the MSM, which is the voice of Corporate America. I recall Dennis Kucinich being denied a place in the final debate in Iowa. The sponsor, the Des Moines Iowa Register, claimed Kucinich lacked a proper campaign headquarters. Of course he had one, but it was in someone's house. That was unacceptable for the MSM. Howard Dean was similarly unacceptable to Corporate America. Who determines the participants in the nationally televised Presidential Debates? Why, it's a committee of two: the former heads of the DNC & RNC. Yes, campaign funding is at the root of the corruption. But neither party wishes to end it. So, it will not change. A third party is the best option for now. Think of how Bernie Sanders has the ability to actually represent us. A POTUS could do likewise.
Tea Baggers
Call them 'BAGGIES'.
Take a play from their own handbook: short, loaded, and derisive.
not much changes
the republicans have always blamed the liberals because they have never accepted responsiblility for anything and trying to convince them that the corporations and their party is at fault is useless,to the tea baggers the corporations are Gods right hand. The only thing thats changed is the radio talking heads now control the republican party and the business republicans follow them.Without any opposition party I can see a real facist regime taking place and liberals persecuted like the Jews in germany.
