A Special Message to Joe Lieberman from His Roommate at Yale

A Special Message to Joe Lieberman From His College Roommate

By David Wyles

Over the past few years, we have published appeals to Joe Lieberman by his Yale undergraduate roommate, David Wyles. Today, we are posting David's holiday message to the man who you never want to get in between him and a camera: Joe Lieberman.

I was Joe Lieberman's friend and roommate for all four years at Yale. I supported him personally and politically (helping him to be elected as Chairman of the Yale Daily News, then the most prominent and powerful political position at Yale). We had a number of truly talented people at the News (like Paul Steiger, later to be managing editor of the Wall Street Journal, Bob Kaiser, associate editor of the Washington Post, and John Sacks, chief correspondent for Time magazine), but Joe won the job because he appealed to all factions within the News. Basically, he won the political vote among these factions because he appeared to listen and agree with all of them. He was a "natural" -- so obviously good at politics that I predicted while we were still undergraduates at Yale that he would be the first Jewish President of the United States.

Thank God I was wrong. (Although if Gore had been elected, we probably wouldn't have preemptively invaded Iraq.) When Joe sold out Gore and the Democratic Party in Florida after the  2000 election (blessing all military votes without regard to proper electoral procedures), I lost faith in him. Since then, he has proven himself to be a sell-out to the Bush Administration's War on Iraq, to the Bush nominations of reactionary justices to the Supreme Court (where were his threats of filibuster then?), and now to the fiscal interests of Big Pharma and Big Insurance. He is a wholly owned subsidiary of Aetna and Pfister. He no longer cares about what's good for the American people. He has clearly sold his soul to the Dark Side of capitalism.

Lieberman

What is his stand on bombing Iran within the next two months?  Do I need ask?

Otherwise, Lieberman is responsible if health care does not cover everyone.  This was published

recently in a local newspaper.

EVERYONE needs health care at some point in their life.  Whether it is public and/or private health care,

EVERYONE should have access without regard to income, age, race, preexisting condition or whatever.

All those that die after the legislation Congress passes and Obama signs that were not covered and could

have been saved for a short time [given we have not solved the aging problem] is the responsibility of those

in Congress and Obama because they did not provide health care for EVERYONE.

Joe Lie Lieberman

Well, everyone is certainly entitled to his or her opion when it comes to Joe Lieberman. Can't we suffice it to say that is a sorry ass example of a human being. The bottom of the dung heap.

Lieberman

Joe was pretty adept at walking both sides of the political line until the Neocons and the "friends of Israel" called him out in their hard-right run-up to the Iraq War.  For the first time, he felt compelled to put it all on the line for Israel, and there simply was no going back from there.  Now, he might as well take the big bucks from all the rest of the special interests hanging around D.C. and enjoy the easy ride all the way to the end.

Joe Lieberman

Joe Lieberman, in my experience of him as a roommate at Yale and as Chairman of the Yale Daily News, was not an evil man. Far from it, he went to Mississippi to register black voters in 1963 when it was truly dangerous. He fought for civil rights. When he was Attorney General of Connecticut, he was a committed environmentalist. But he went "all moral" on Bill Clinton getting a blowjob from Monica and, unfortunately, that's why Gore chose him to to be his Vice-President in 2000. Big mistake. Who gives a shit about moral peccadilloes when the economy and the possible wars in the world are at stake? Do we need a Boy Scout or a President? Gore made a big mistake choosing Joe for those "supposed moral" reasons. The Presidency has more to do what's right for the country than what's right for any God by any name. Since then, Joe has been free to promote the War on Iraq (even though he vied for most deferments during Vietnam with Dick Cheney) and to cast aspersions on the patriotism of anybody who would oppose the idiocy of our Commander-in-Chief, George Bush, in fomenting and continuing that war. Joe is a personal coward (he has refused to serve in the military during any war and he has not had any of his children or his grandchildren fight in the wars he has has sponsored and voted for.) Major league chickenshithawk. Sorry, Joe. Once you had promise. Now, you only have the shame of voting for war and against health care for your own people.

Lieberman

The honorable senator from the state of Aetna

Lieberman

I also was very happy when Ned Lamont won the Democratic nomination in CT.  It was wonderful to see Lieberman go down in defeat. Then it was horrifying that CT had no procedure that prevented the ape from running as an Independent so he could win with republican warmonger support.  He is said to have a big chip on his shoulder because of the way he was treated. Poor poor corporate sellout Lieberman.

Joe Lieberloser

PamB

I live in Ct.   I have watched for years, as Joe played both sides of the aisle, whichever was to his advantage.    He would withhold his vote in the Senate till the last minute to see if Republicans needed his vote or not.    He voted to the Right, if it helped corporations, instead of the people.    The majority of his constituents would inform him how they wanted him to vote and represent them, in this blue State, and he would ignore them for his own unprincipled values.    He has no morals, no ethics.    He is a chicken hawk, a war mongerer, because of his love for Israel as well as the Defense industry domiciled in this state.    If Harry Reid does not strip him of his seats, should he be stupid enough to do a filibuster after his grandstanding Gang of 14 crap, Reid will surely go down in 2010.

One of my happiest moments was the night that Ned Lamont won the State Democratic candicacy over Lieberman, and he had to come out with crow all over his face, and change his party!

Question for the author...

... if you are reading.  You say that Lieberman no longer cares about what is good for the American people.  Did he ever?  Or was he always just a good politician, successful at pleasing everyone, obeying no moral compass?

joe

Who wants the gov to mandate profits for these corporobbers

Thank You

Thank you for standing up for your principles while your former friend has abandoned his.

Lieberlouse

Read what he wrote again. It sounds as though Lieberman has been playing all sides

from the start. He's always been a Benedict Arnold.

So?

Anything that stops these bad health system overhaul bills is good ........ and Joe does double duty by highlighting why America's governmental system also needs fixing.

Lieberlouse

Does Lieberlouse use himself as an example of why our governmental system needs fixing?

He should.

re: So?

Riiiight. Because the Private Sector has been so capable, so scrupulously honest, and so much easier on consumers' pocket books.

I think the last couple of decades have shown that those tired old Reaganisms are bullshit, Q.E.D.

If Dumbya had put Social Security on the Stock Market as he wanted, gutters across America would be full of dead seniors and disabled Americans now. I know, I know: tearing down the Middle Class is good, and Joe is doing double-duty to get the job done.

Reality

The only people who in honesty should be supporting these lousy health system 'reform' bills in Congress [which certainly will get even worse] are the insurance industry and Republicans, who do not ........ quite ironic, eh?

not ironic at all

because your "should" has no business being in that sentence.

you've been smokin'

you've been smokin' something, dude.......
