Humana saw their profits rise 65 percent last quarter on Medicare profits: No wonder they oppose healthcare reform
BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT
November 2 Release from the Office of Senator Harry Reid
Spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Jim Manley, released the following statement today in response to news that Humana had a 65 percent jump in profit last quarter mostly due to their involvement with the Medicare Advantage Program:
“It’s no wonder why Humana has been misleading seniors about health insurance reform -- they saw their profits rise 65 percent last quarter and want to make sure the gravy train doesn’t end. The insurance industry is making billions by gaming the Medicare Advantage system, at the expense of seniors’ traditional Medicare coverage, and taxpayers are footing the bill.
“The American people have had enough, but unfortunately Senate Republicans have sided with insurers like Humana and are working to protect insurance industry profits over Americans’ health care needs. When we pass health insurance reform this year, this will all come to an end. Our seniors deserve better and American taxpayers should not be asked to pad the profits of the insurance industry.”

Humana Advantage
When it began the cost was $0. Last year, without notice to my disabled nephew they raised it to $38 a month for an increase of 3,800%. It took nine months and the services of the family attorney to get a response as to what this bill was that they had been sending him. Before his guardians could do more than read the gibberish they sent, they cancelled his insurance! They are ripoff artistists. I lived in Louisville when they built their new Humana building and decorated the entrance with a painting worth $1,000,000 at that time. Humana along with the other for-profits are modern day vampires and a stake should be driven through their evil hearts. Wendell Cherry and David Jones (founders of Humana) have a lot to answer for!!

My Medicare Part D is scheduled to increase 33% in January, from 109 to 144.40
I keep working on the concept that there isn't enough inflation to warrant a Social Security cost of living increase this year.
