Jon Stewart Lambastes 30 Republican Senators Who Voted to Sanction Rape

Last week, Senator Al Franken proposed an amendment that would prohibit the Pentagon from contracting with firms that force women employees to agree not to sue companies if they are raped as a result of their employment.
"Kind of a slam dunk," Jon Stewart noted in another of his devastating commentaries on October 14.
The amendment resulted from a Halliburton/KBR employee who was gang raped and temporarily imprisoned by fellow employees in Iraq and then went public. Halliburton/KBR had a no-sue-if-raped clause in her contract.
So, as Stewart caustically noted, 30 Republican Senators -- 30 -- voted in favor of denying recourse to rape victims in order to protect corporate America.
It, simply put, is beyond belief in a civilized society that 30 Senators -- all Republicans -- voted in favor of rape, gang rape, in the precipitating case that caused Franken to try and end governmental sanctioning of this outrage.
As Stewart, once again, did the work that corporate media should be doing, he showed the hypocrisy of the Republican Senators, many of them who just the week before went on a successful partisan rampage to revoke government funding of ACORN, an organization that had been entrapped by a right wing wannabe pimp, but did not have any employees raped on the job.
As far as the Franken amendment is concerned for the 30 Republican Senators, the interests of corporate America superceded the rights of a woman not to be raped.
That is unspeakably horrifying, and yet the mainstream media was more absorbed with right wing attacks on Obama -- and with its own celebrity status -- than to highlight that 30 United States Senators sanctioned U.S. tax dollars going to companies that are not accountable for rape and force employees to agree not to hold them accountable.
There was gobs of coverage about ACORN, about which its only fault seems to be a couple of employees got taken in by a RWNJ attack dog -- and that it angers Republicans because it empowers poor people.
But when it comes to protecting women from rape, the corporate mainstream media didn't even blink when 30 Republican Senators voted in favor of sexual violation instead of holding companies to the most basic standard of civilized decency and prevention of a heinous crime.
That's 30 Republican Senators who voted for gang rape.
The Franken amendment passed because every Democrat voted for it and a few Republicans who haven't yet descended into Dante's Inferno.
But don't ever forget that 30 GOP Senators voted for rape and even gave floor speeches "defending" their vote.
It's beyond disgraceful. It's 30 U.S. Senators who are accessories to a brutal crime.

jmcshane What else can one think after all the low life behavior of them sexually and then say they are against that behavior. Every which way they turn it is the same, dumb they are truly the dumbest group of politicians there has ever been. Talk about being American or Patriotic, they are the furtherest from being either and they tried to make out the Democrats were not before Obama became President....In all things the Republican Party is a loser.....

Evil, demented, parasitic, criminal, owned monsters, just another example of how bought and paid for these parasites on the backside of America are. How can their followers, especially the women, even consider supporting these creepy family values people? I really wish that all these people could end up in a prison as toys for the big boys, then see what they think of rape. Just plain evil. Ladies be very careful who you are alone with and I also mean make sure you got an Independent or Democrat with you for protection. At least the owned Dems had the guts to draw a shallow line in the sand.

We have to thank Jon for his daily reports that the MSM SHOULD be reporting on! How despicable are the Repugs? It only goes to show you how Repugs think and that they should ALL go "fuck" themselves! I guess they think that women are second class citizens and it's just too bad if they get raped! I'm sick of them all and they should ALL be very ashamed but I"m sure they're not!!
Why is anyone still surprised by "Republics?"
This group of pod beings is soulless and will continue to vote against humanity. But I agree, shame on the media for not giving this any attention. I'm sure a part of it is because it was Sen. Franken and we all know that he shouldn't be shown as a good and decent person. "Republics" wouldn't like it.

I sincerely hope, that ALL of the cheap repubie prostitutes, who are so generous with public money, and so protective of the rapists at Halliburton, will get gang raped repeatedly with a small saguaro cactus (every time a new one). Also, they must be denied complaint, as they obviously enjoy it.

It isn't an either/or - Bible vs Corporations
The GOP has managed to simultaneously maintain two disparate versions of virtue: Old Testament Bible and Corporations as deities.
In this case, these two versions work together: If the woman was at home taking care of her husband and children, she'd have not been in a place to be raped, and even if she was, the corporation as god cannot be challenged.
BTW, I too hope you maintain the classic version of Buzzflash. Loathe the new and difficult to use version. Hope there is/will be a way to set it as the default when I access the site.
Republicans support rape
Its not just about protecting business interest,its about the Republican version of the bible.Women according to the fundamentalist bible are to serve men and have no political rights therefore rape is legal.I have heard some "liberals" argue the republicans aren't evil they just have a different take on things,I think this shows anyone who is a republican is evil
