As an old intelligence analyst what I've learned over the years is; it's not the loud mouths you have to look out for, but the guys who are quietly amassing power and recruiting! But, saying that, if this was another country, I would be advising a draw down the embassy, have the Marines off shore to protect our vital interests and prepare for the worst. But right now, its watch, listen (really listen to what’s being said—not what you think it means) and identify the major players.

We have a radicalized political alliance of splinter groups whose chief aim appears to be; the violent overthrow of the lawfully elected government. The Republican noise machine is at a totally different level than when Rush got his claim to fame, with “America Held Hostage” during the Clinton administration. Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Faux News and the Astroturf operatives from the right are stoking the fears that brought down the Weimar Republic, “Our Country isn’t ‘Ours’ anymore.” But you don’t have to worry; we know whose fault it is! Worst yet, the lawfully elected President is not US. It is resonating with some people you don’t want anything to resonate with. For some of these guys, this is really personal! Further they have tapped into our home-grown racist crazies for whom this is the “Race War” they’ve been feverishly planning and waiting for.

Cooler heads will probably prevail, after all nobody wants this country to Balkanize into separate states, country, or whatever. The United States still is not are. That was settled in 1865, well, almost.

They play off the hate and fear of republicans, and sucker the highest ideals and dreams of liberals. They play us all like puppets. So how does our puppet break free? We can't do anything until we take our party back.

I really believe we are at the breaking point where the US will cease to exist. We already see the full blown secession movement in Texas that their governor has encouraged. Other states like Alaska and Vermont have secessionist movements and hate radio is encouraging them everywhere. Now there is some rumbling of a similar movement here in California too! Obama is repeating what Jimmy Carter did as president. Just as Carter abandoned the left and moved steadily to the right based on the pressure put on him, so has Obama done the same thing. He has totally bungled the health care debate by repeatedly begging the Republicans to find common ground with them instead of standing with the single payer activists who put him in office. Time after time he has ignored the pleas of those who elected him and he's given the Republicans everything they want.Obama traded away an orchard to the Republicans and their corporate masters and he didn't even get a rotten apple back as a consolation. He got nothing and he's still begging the Republicans for a single vote. Well, the insurance racketeers can't screw me anymore, they already bankrupted me and stole my parents home. Bill McGuire cleaned my IRA out when I was forced to pay for care that my mother was denied. They can't take anything more from me. And thanks to Obama and his pal Olympia Snowe, millions of Americans will still go broke and bankrupt because Olympia is going to force her trigger into this corporate welfare bill, a trigger that Obama will squirt with enough Krazy Glue that it can't be pulled, just like the Medicare "D" trigger. Change you can believe in? It's turned into the same old SNOWE JOB!

I voted for Kucinich in the last primary and I will either vote for Dennis, Bernie Sanders or Anthony Weiner next time.

There are only two options, doing nothing or rising up en masse.  Anything else, blogging, for example, but also signing petitions, leafletting, holding a weekly candle light vigil - and other such same old same old activities, for whatever neglible difference these will make, one might just as well have done nothing.   Sure, it's still possible, albeit highly unlikely, that President Obama will see the light and come out for single payer when he addresses the nation next week.  But if as expected he touts his insurance company/Big Pharma/Wall Street giveaway, that's when the mobilization best begin, peacefully, relentlessly, right up to the time that Congress passes and President Obama signs a single payer bill.   What are the odds?   Right now overwhelmingly against us, obviously.  Then why rise up?   Something called momentum  plus the fact that a people united can never be defeated.   The teabaggers know this, how come we don't?   After all, according to polls, when it comes to single payer we outnumber them four to one.

Yes, indeed, Obama is close to "igniting a powder keg".  The right wing had such a successful summer of town hall meetings that they have been very encouraged.  This latest hoorah over the speech to school children regarding staying in school and accomplishing something with their young lives is a good example.  All the while, he and the Democrats sit back and do NOTHING.  And, when they do NOTHING, they encourage all kinds of speculation among his supporters about WHY, oh WHY, oh WHY?  Why won't they fight?  And, the answers of course are all over the map because, after all, nature does abhor a vacuum.  This turning of the other cheek when people are threatening to murder you is just too much to take for too long.  Those of us who put him in the Presidency don't like it.  Well, we'll see what happens on Wednesday, see if he can pull it out with one speech, providing of course that the right wing actually permits him to stand in front of the Congress and GIVE a speech.  At this point, it is even conceivable that he may simply say that he's not going to do that either.

 And that Medicare recipients are being SOCIALISED  by ALL taxpayers,  Earned Income is TAXED at nearly 3% (employer + employee contributions = 2.9%)  of every earned income dollar goes to fund Medicare - from which anyone under 65 is EXCLUDED!! 

   The root of right-wing resentment isn not just race,  but is  also  the SECRECY and CORRUPTION of the Big Financial markets.  But President Obama is so wedded to his Goldman-Sachs bankers & lobbyists, that he can no longer see the forest for the trees (or see his own campaign videos from 2008 pledging "tranparency & accountability"  either, apparently.) 

  The other day, Buzzflash's own David Lindorff all but said that the Obama administration is doomed by the president's failed choices of the past 9 months.  Whether or not that will prove true,  Mr. Obama needs to ADDRESS the HATE-MONGERS, STAT,  before he has ANOTHER  JIM DAVID ADKISSON - and the BLOOD of MORE INNOCENT AMERICANS - on HIS hands!!

  BENIGN  NEGLECT,  and COWERING in the White House as Republicans, FOX 'news', and other corporate media WHIP UP A CLIMATE OF HATE,    is NOT an option! 

Clinton had Mickey Cantor and the DLC selling him policies that sunk healthcare but supported many anti-worker initiatives.  Obama has Rahm Emanuel and a clique of advisors who seem hell bent on "bi partisan" goals that can't be achieved.   Thisstrategy is sinking his ship. The GOP has become a runaway freight train filled with far out hate speech and lies that "stick" because the media in this country loves to stir up controversy.  Of course, if someone gets hurt, they'll be the frist ones to pontificate that they had nothing to do with spreading that hate with their 24/7 coverage of the most outrageous hate.

So far Obama's only bi-partisan accomplishment is the reality that he could probably find three Republican pallbearers to match the three Democrats on the other side of the casket when his presidency succumbs to the rightwing wacko hate mongers.

Obama needs a Michael Douglas "American President' moment.  He needs right smack dab in the middle of his speech before a joint session of the Congress to call out in public on national television scumbags like Jim Imhoff.  He needs to say, "Sir,  the comments you've made that I want to make the country weak and flood cities with terrorists, is not true and you know it.  I love this country as much as you claim you do.  To suggest the I or any President wants to see this country fall to terrorism is as disgusting and untruthful a comment as I've ever seen a member of the Senate make about any president.  You should be ashamed of yourself."

He needs to say, "Senator Grassley, you've disappointed me.  I feel deceived by your comments that any element of any of the health reform proposals under consideration contain any language that would threaten anyone's grandmother.  Your comment suggesting, even hinting, that such a thing was on my agenda is untruthful and you knew that when you made your comment.  You have now said your support of health reform is no longer based on doing what you think is right, but what the majority in your caucus tell you they think.  Senator, with all due respect, that's a pathetic philosophy coming from someone who fancies himself as a leader committed to doing what he thinks is right and best for our country."

Mr. President, we are waiting for you to start acting like a leader and not just another smling face out to win an election or a bi-partisan popularity contest.  The time to lead is now.  The country is waiting.

 Is it really a matter of Obma trying to be the "most liked politician?"  He obviously wanted to be liked by big Pharma, given all the closed door meetings he had with them for almost 6 months that culminated in some sweet laissez faire on pricing regulations. Let's face it, like any other politician, he has his vested interests.  In addition to pharma and the insurance industries donating very generously to him in 2008 (his donations from both approach roughly 2.6 million dollars according to Open Secrets), not to mention the financial sectors.  It would be disingenuous to assume that the continuation of mostly business-as-usual on Wall Street and his largesse towards the pharma and insurance are an attempt to be likable, along with his apparent concern about a party that only obstructs legislation and dangerously sensationalizes his actions.  

He needs to try to please those that voted him in, many whose lives depend on authentic healthcare reform.  If he can't summon up compassion for Americans, he should at least appease them better than this. If only we had the bargaining strength that the GOP or the financial, insurance, pharma, and war industries have had with President Obama.  

President Obama, with huge Democratic majorities in both Houses of Congress, was in a position to lead this country in a way that would have fulfilled his campaign promise of "Change You Can Believe In". How he ever came to the conclusion that he could effect change while playing patty-cake with the Right must be left to future sociologists and psychiatrists to pontificate. Unfortunately already, he has made many mistakes and squandered a myriad number of opportunities, so much so that the Left is prepared to abandon him and to write him off as just another pol. Keith Olberman even suggested last night that he could face a primary challenge in '12. Face facts 'Flashers, Obama is not a strong leader.

Thank you for telling it like it is. The proto-fascists have created a dangerous atmosphere in this country. The situation with health care, the birthers, the deathers, and assorted others whose common sense is somewhat lacking has re-created the same explosive mix that the paranoia around civil rights created during JFK's term, and we know how that ended. One can even draw parallels to the Nazi ascdendency in the 30's, when the Brown Shirts disrupted what they could and intimidated the opposition. Bipartisanship is not the answer, in my opinion, because the Republicans have no interest in change, only obstruction. They resent having lost power. While not necessarily racist themselves, they have no compunctions about fanning racism with artfully coded rhetoric. They also resent not being able to funnel money to their rich friends, corporate and private, often at the expense of ordinary people.

I have believed for some time that Republicans want to win only for the sake of having power, whereas Democrats actuallywant to do something to help people while in office. Currently, it seems that the only objective of the Right is to destroy Obama's presidency regardless of the consequences. This is no time for compromise. It is time to show them for what they are, a collective personification of Joe McCarthy. 

This whole idea that Hilary Clinton would have been better is a fantasy.  Look at reports of her position on Afghanistan - she is pushing more and more and more troops.  She wouldn't have even tried health care - using the depression as an excuse.  She would have triangulated faster than you can breath, and the right would still have come after her just as hard or harder than they are Obama.

The sickness starts in the culture, not in our politicians, as much as we may despise them.

That being said, Obama has to stand up to the right-wing bullies somewhere, somehow, or they will just gain momentum and continue to diminish his efforts.

I remember just how gaga BFlash was over Mr. Obama, and how nasty to Ms. Clinton.  Maybe next time - say during the '12 primary challenge - this blog will be a little less self righteous?

Your comments are absurd. Obama has had 2.5 years to figure out IN DETAIL what his health plan is. He just thought like Afghanistan, he could pump out a few sound bites....get that real concerned, serious look on his face...and everything was gonna work itself out in some magical way...... So he depended on two of the most abjectly poor leaders in DEM history....Pelosi and Reid. Wow. Wasserman should be the Speaker of the House and somebody like John Kerry should be the leader of the Senate....Obama should have insisted on those changes BEFORE he took the oath of office....Remember in the 2006 midterms, WE swept into total control of the U.S. Congress in order to stop the war in Iraq....You do remember that???....and then Pelosi sat on her hands and approved every war appropriations bill to continue this madness...And it IS this war that is the root cause of the blowup of the U.S. economy...not the only one..but certainly the root cause.

So now we get to hear Obama on Sept. 9th pucker up and look all serious and spill forth more generalities...

I am tired of hearing a million external excuses for Obama's failures. We have had a leadership failure in the Democratic Party since the elections of 2006....Obama dangled the auto works on a piano wire while at the same time giving billions and billions to the banks and brokerage firms without any oversight...without any accountability....Obama deserves everything that is happening to him right now. He is more concerned of being bipartisan and making nasty love with the GOP than protecting the very folks who elected him..... It will only take Hillary Clinton running in 2012 to maybe salvage this massive failure of leadership..
