George Will and an Upside Down World

c

By Steven C. Day

You know the world has turned completely upside down when you find yourself nodding in agreement with a George Will column. But he's right: the Afghanistan war is a giant sandbox filled with quicksand to the United States -- and already we're in way too deep. Obama needs to figure a way out this mess and soon or everything else he hopes to accomplish will turn to grief.

Yes, it's damn convenient for someone such as Will to reach this conclusion only now, when "the other side" is in office. But the truth is still the truth.

Obama didn't get us into this war. He didn't mismanage it in the beginning. But in the end, none of that will matter. It's his war now. And more importantly, it's America's war. And there's no good outcome anywhere in sight.

Why The Vigorous Flag Waving?

And I bet ETS was willing to ship Americans off to Burundi and Rwanda to establish democracy and justice in those nations? Where is ETS' empathy and military muscle being lifted to assist the afflicted in Darfur against their terrorizers? Is ETS ready to re-establish the rule of law (and the original name) in Myanmar by whatever violent means necessary?

I guess - since ETS is waving that flag so hard that the friction of the polluted air is causing it to smolder - that ETS can't see that ETS is just blowing smoke. All ETS cares about is that Afghanistan is made safe for Unocal's Caspian pipeline project so ETS don't have to convert the Escalade into living quarters which ETS would rent out to the illegal immigrants being imported to this nation to take away ETS' job.

No, I am not

But I must say you must have wonderful psychic abilities to read my every thought. I understand Rush Limbaugh has this power.

I should be flattered that you think enough of my comment to stoop to ad hominem.

Just remember this bleeding hearts

When the Taliban come marching into downtown Kabul and begin murdering women and girls for imagined offenses to the Qur'an, I don't want to hear a peep.

I want America to keep as silent about the Taliban executing women in the soccer stadium as America did when Pol Pot was marching teachers, lawyers, doctors, nurses, architects, university professors, in short any all all professionals who were not farmers, into the killing fields of Cambodia.

Remember, the hoodlums who metastasized into the Taliban were our buddies when the Soviet Union meddled in Afghan politics. And remember our last president, George w. Bush, handed those thugs a chunk of dough for eradicating the Afghan opium poppy crop mere weeks before Osama bin Ladan's dupes killed themselves and murdered thousands of innocents on September 11, 2001.

And also remember, the men and women of the United States' Milton J. Friedmen-invented all volunteer force, AVF, will not appreciate your efforts. They are there, well, quite frankly, because they want to be there. Recall, letting those who want to be there, in a war zone, was one of the goals of the Vietnam peace movement in supporting the end of the draft and the creation of an AVF.
