Since Senator Ensign's unrelenting affair with a woman on one of his staff married to a man on another of his staff became public, much attention has been drawn to the Skull and Bones like secret society of self-appointed "Christian Super Men" who are part of the Ubermensch "Family."

Ensign may eventually face legal charges for financial transactions related to his affair -- as well as sexual harassment charges -- but in his "C Street Family" sanctuary, he is a welcome man. Even Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, who believes that doctors who perform abortions should be executed and lesbianism is rampantly "afflicting" grammar school girls, "allegedly" counseled Ensign on how to cover up his prolonged and unrepentant sexual dalliance that was virtually incestuous. Coburn too, is a member and resident of "The Family" home, which is religiously incorporated, near Capitol Hill.

Of course, Mark Sanford is a regular guest at "The Family" residence and "worship" center when in D.C., seeking guidance on how to be a "King David" (as he recently called himself) who was allowed his sins because he, "The Family" members believe, has been chosen by God, in the name of Christ, to lead the ignorant masses.

The members and residents at the "C Street Family" home and spiritual warrior center forgive each other all sins, because they believe themselves supermen. They are the Leopold and Loebs of modern evangelical fanaticism, which absolves individuals who believe that they have been absolved by God from responsibility for their behavior.

In fact, they even consider that they suffer for their sins because they are attacked for simply living the life without limits that God allows them in turn for their "enlightened-divine" leadership of "strength and conviction."

On her MSNBC program, the brilliant and endlessly insightful Rachel Maddow this week featured skilled journalist Jeff Sharlet, author of "The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power," and his revelations were about as frightening as reading "Mein Kampf."

The jig is up for democracy if any of these men who use religion to allow for being above the moral and actual law becomes president. Bush, after all, thought he was chosen by God, when it was just the ethically defective and arrogant Antonin Scalia who put him in the White House.

America's always had a streak of charlatan religious hucksters a mile wide through its history, but men of power who think that they are accountable to no one because God has annointed them to be almighty -- in rule and sin -- these are political terrorists to democracy in our midst.

They are just self-righteous, hubristic, terribly flawed and lacking men with clay feet.

But so were so many tyrants and enemies of democracy throughout history.

We endure them in elected office at grave risk to our Constitutional foundations.

even though it's not an exact comparison, since L and L considered themselves above the law through the genius exception, while these religisos don't claim brilliance but enlightenment. Still, both groups obviously subscribe to the "God's exemption" theory, and isn't that just too convenient. Where does Hillary fit? Absolutely nowhere, as far as I can tell. Wayne Madsen wrote a two part expose about this four or five years ago titled THE CHRISTIAN MAFIA. "The Family" is also known as "The Fellowship." It's the same thing by either name. It's amazing to me how real investigative journalists like Wayne Madsen (The Wayne Madsen Report), Mike Rupert (fromthewilderness.com), Daniel Hopsicker(MadCowProd.com), Michel Chossudovsky (globalreseach.ca, Webster Tarpley, Alex Jones (infowars.com) and David Ray Griffen, BuzzFlash (otherwise one of my favorite web sites) never seems to be aware of these guys. Why is that? These guys are always years ahead of everybody else and they never seem to get credit when they get ripped off of what they have already reported. I'll bet Madsen is not even mentioned in this new book that just came out. To be a real investigative journalist you gotta be risking your life. If you ain't risking your life you ain't a real investigative journalist. Period!

What I find annoying about the small, but very powerful and vocal, fundamentalist Christian groups as described in this article is their use of the "forgiven" loophole in their interpretation of scripture. According to their theology, if they wrong someone all they have to do it to pray to Jesus for forgiveness. Once they're forgiven (and they always "know" in their hearts), the slate is clean. That is to say they can wrong someone and morally get out of it without ever having to ask forgiveness of the people they hurt. Of course they're encouraged to do everything they can to ask forgiveness from the people they hurt, but they seldom do that. So, I can hurt you, enslave you, exploit you, steal from you, murder you, &c. and all I have to do is get Jesus' forgiveness and I'm good to go. And I can do this from the privacy of my home. At least Catholics have to go to a priest who might give you some guidance. I like how Judaism handles this: you can only receive forgiveness from the persons you've hurt; even God can't forgive you. Imagine if these dangerous, self-appointed, supermen didn't have a theological reset switch at their disposal.

This is the reason I don't support organized religion.
