Hate Talkers United: Sean Hannity's Past Relationship with Neo-Nazi, Anti-Semite and Now Arrested Hal Turner
A BUZZFLASH EDITOR'S BLOG
By Mark Karlin
Ah yes, another hate talker is accused of plotting violence, this time against federal judges:
A blogger and Internet radio host from New Jersey was arrested Wednesday by the FBI on charges he threatened to kill three federal appellate judges in Chicago.
The federal charges, filed in Chicago, alleged white supremacist Hal Turner called for the judges' murders after they affirmed on June 2 a lower court decision to dismiss challenges to Chicago's ban on handguns.
Turner is no stranger to law enforcement. Just this month, he was charged in Connecticut with making threats against legislators.
He came to attention of authorities in Chicago after the killings of the husband and mother of U.S. District Judge Joan Lefkow in 2005.
Turner posted the work addresses of appeals court judges who had ruled against white supremacist Matthew Hale in a civil case presided over by Lefkow.
Sometime back, journalist Max Blumenthal (who was at one time a night editor for BuzzFlash) exposed the past relationship of Sean Hannity with Hal Turner. Blumenthal described Hannity as virtually a mentor to Turner, and Turner claimed that Hannity was pretty much his soul mate in outlook, but implied that Hannity had to tone it down because of his high media profile.
When we discuss hate talkers and how seriously they are responsible for the rise in political murder and violence in the United States -- by pouring the gasoline on the floor and encouraging others to light the match -- it is just one other story that gets lost in the increasingly short news cycles.
But it is the story of FOX and Limbaugh and Coulter -- and so many others who are paid salaries for convincing a segment of working class America that "liberals" are not "true Americans" and are their enemies. Ironically, of course, Hannity and his multi-million dollar salaried hate talk pals are creating domestic terrorists within our midst. All this so that the corporatists can continue getting their way in D.C. It's a complicated relationship in which the Rupert Murdochs of the world get paid by corporate America to try and divert the attention of economically-stressed out white Americans from how their pockets are being picked by the wealthy.
Hal Turner is just the dark underside, one of the implementers of the logical conclusion of hate talkers like Hannity: the enemy -- liberals and "Un-American judges," among others -- must be eliminated, as David Neiwert has pointed out in his book, "The Eliminationists: How Hate Talk Radicalized the American Right."
But, as BuzzFlash has warned again and again, if we continue to dismiss the Hannitys of the world with condescension, we will see more Hal Turners and more politically motivated murders.
Progressives who advocate for democracy must hold the hate talkers like Hannity accountable -- and they must invest in a pro-democracy media infrastructure.
Otherwise, as Max Blumenthal wrote, we will continue to deal with the violent outcome of the Hal Turners of America: "Hannity's Soulmate of Hate."

The Reagan Devolution
I believe members of the free media (no, I don't imply or infer that it costs nothing to publish Buzzflash) like yourself should write and speak in terms of reality in response to the double speak of the anti-democratic corporate media. Clearly Sean Hannity speaks for Fortune 500 executives and all the other hedge fund parasites that leach the life's blood out of our American economy.
GE sponsored Ronald Reagan did bring change to America, he brought devolution. He and his corporatist handlers rolled back the "Rule of Law" and slowly but surely turned our country into a police state where corporatists ride in their stretch limousines and corporate helicopters oblivious to the pollution, crime and misery they are perpetrating on the American people.
It is high time for President Barack Hussein Obama to make the Federal Communication Commision (FCC) actually do their job and remove the criminal demagogues over our airwaves who openly violate FCC regulations and break-up the corporate media monopolies and end the Reagan Devolution once and for all.
Obama should implement University of Illinois at Urbana Dr. Robert McChesney's proposal: What to do about newspapers? Let's give all Americans an annual tax credit for the first $200 they spend on daily newspapers. The newspapers would have to publish at least five times per week and maintain a substantial "news hole," say at least twenty-four broad pages each day, with less than 50 percent advertising. In effect, this means the government will pay for every citizen who so desires to get a free daily newspaper subscription, but the taxpayer gets to pick the newspaper--this is an indirect subsidy, because the government does not control who gets the money. This will buy time for our old media newsrooms--and for us citizens--to develop a plan to establish journalism in the digital era. We could see this evolving into a system to provide tax credits for online subscriptions as well.

Beautiful Job Mark !
This needs to be noted, and Hannity needs to publicly apologize for his friendship with Turner. In fact, the FBI would do well to question Hannity about his relationship to this individual and ask Fox News why Turner was allowed to visit Hannity on the set of his TV show years ago.
I can tell you this:
Years ago when I was on speaking terms with Hannity, I heard Turner call his program several times with a two week period.
When Hannity phoned me one night I told him of Turner's activities and alerted him to the fact that his association with Turner might come back to haunt him.
He responded, "Hal's a good guy". That is exactly what Hannity said to me.
I told him he was crazy and that if he doubted my words, he should merely access Turner's website which was halturner.com, as it was defiantly and proudly filled to the brim with virulent racist hate.
Hannity then said he had to go and got off the phone.
So your essay here is very important in holding Turner's special patron accountable, while he postures as a "Great American" and a pious Christian and has thereby fooled a lot of credulous individuals into believing his televised lies and manufactured acrimony.
Thanks for writing this. It is another steriing illustration of why Buzzflash is the best site and the most courageous site on the whole web.
jaydiamond - what are you thinking?
Why should Hannity apologize for who he is? Can't you accept that Hannity actually is from the same bag as Hal Turner?
I don't know who you are that "Hannity phoned me one night"... and you "told him of Turner's activities"... and Hannity replied "Hal's a good guy"...
If someone's values, morals, ethics and perception of the world was conflicting with who you are... would you perceive that person as "a good guy"? What is it that you don't understand?
From my vantage point... if you don't get what Hannity is... you're right there with him.
I strongly urge every person that is not one of "them"... to listen to Hannity on the radio for a minimum of 30 minutes - at least once. I know how hard it is to stomach the brazen (uneducated) brat but everyone really needs to know and understand what this guy is... and what he is doing to YOUR country.
These racist, hatemongering, chicken hawk talk show bozos have "normalized" their attitudes among people with little insight... zero curiosity... fearful... insecure and deprived of the ability to analyze what they hear.
Such people have always been there. However... Hannity (Limbaugh, Savage et al) have given license to all those lemmings to come out of the closet. Thanks to the efforts of Hannity and his crew... they now feel "normal" enough to proudly reveal themselves to the world. Through AM radio... these people have been convinced they are the majority... and are proud to be who they are.
That's far more dangerous than the fictitious worldwide network of organized terrorists. These people are here... infiltrated among us... and their vote counts as much as yours!
