Subject: Did Bush do ANY Good?

People are asking if Bush accomplished anything good during his presidency. The answer is - Yes! One thing he did was that he utterly destroyed the Republican Party. All the myths that Republicans are fiscal conservatives are gone. The idea that Republicans are better for the economy proved wrong. Trickle down economics and tax cuts for the rich completely discredited. Privatizing Social Security is now a joke. We will have to see if the price to destroy the Republicans was worth the price America has paid to learn the hard way. But at least we can finally say that Republican ideas are an utter failure and hopefully we will never go back there again.

Subject: ABOVE THE LAW

Why do Republican presidents always get away with their many crimes? It all started back in the 1920s with Warren G. Harding and the Teapot Dome scandal. Of course, he conveniently died before he could be brought to justice for his role in this disaster. Richard Nixon never spent one day in prison for the Watergate crimes. Ronald Reagan was never punished for the Iran-Contra affair. Neither was George H.W. Bush. And now it looks as if his son George W. will also get away with his many war crimes. Is it possible that Dubya Bush committed these illegal acts knowing he would not get punished because he's a Republican? Bill Clinton was impeached for absolutely no reason, while all these criminal Republicans got away with bloody murder. It's an outrage!

Subject: back after two weeks ...

That is much too long to be gone from Buzz.

I have not had time to re read all the mailbags.. or other news for that matter....but, there seems to be a little sniping going on ...hey...are we not all happy that the Bush/Cheney reign is over? Certainly, I am, and I cannot imagine anyone bashing anyone for free speech....I have suffered more than anyone for my free speech or right to it! Family members...who are very close to me, are mad because I had the nerve to vote for Obama!

Joan Magit...personally I do not like anyone putting the administration of the Clintons down. Would that we should be so well off in this country now as we were when the Clintons left office...remember always...his lie did not kill, anyone, cause hundreds of thousands to lose their jobs...not be able to eat....pay bills....or feed their kids. I was born right during the first depression...I remember as a kid having a hell of a time, just finding food, clothing...being poor...and it took twenty years...or more to get out of that. We were still having a hard time in the early years of marriage....my kids did not have, when they were little, nearly what the kids of later administrations had....and it reached its peek during the 1990's...so, thank God for the Clintons (even though Bush has tried to ruin that). We will never...I will not live long enough to see this country come out from under this...and if you don't believe it....go and see the movie, "W" and see what the lamebrains Bush lovers voted for....okay? Or read a book by Frank Rich that I am in the middle of...entitled, "The Greatest Story ever Sold!"(The lies are amazing.) If you do not believe it...there are many other places to find out...

It just rubs me much the wrong way to hear anyone bash the Clintons...when what they did, they tried at least to do for us. Bush, just in his last breath...tried to get Medical Doctors to take a 10.9% drop in what they can charge for medicare patients....the congress overruled it, thank God....but, this man is going off to his little conclave in northern Texas...a gated community who have all signed promises that they will never sell to Negroes....is that wonderful of a sitting president? ...anyone who puts any other president down...Democrat or Republican... should hang their heads in shame!!!

I am a lover of Howard Dean, I worked hard for him when he ran for the office in 2004...I was sick when he did not get the nomination. ...and I was glad to see him become the party leader...thank God for him!

Hi Buzz & Friends,

First Enron, then the run up in oil prices, then the CDO's and the $700,000,000,000 bailout - all perpetrated by the very same people. All Nancy Pelosi has to do is nothing and the biggest theft of taxpayer dollars ever perpetrated will be complete. There are literally only days left before the whole thing is complete. It's almost beyond comprehension that this will be allowed to happen. The biggest thieves of all time - far from going to jail - will receive another massive payout of taxpayer dollars. We know the names so well: Goldman Sachs, J.P Morgan - the whole Wall Street crowd - with their congressional coconspirators. Even with it all being public knowledge now, it's still going to be allowed to go forward. You'd better believe that they'll be burning the midnight oil on Capitol Hill tonight. America is watching and everyone is going to be so pissed off. The very idea of these crooks getting more of our money is simply incomprehensible!

Just now, when we need this money so badly it's going to go into the pockets of scoundrels. The "certain greedy people" in Washington and on Wall Street have names now. They're the same Enron traders that bragged that "some grannies" in California are going to be hurting are the very perps that have done the same thing - not once, but twice again. Americans should be lighting up the switchboards in the Capital/Capitol. It's the biggest theft in world history.

How can anyone ever trust Nancy Pelosi again? Already guilty of betraying the country - she can't possibly dare to let this carefully conceived scam go forward. The days are ticking off. Even if congress does pass a law - bush can apparently still veto it - but will he dare? Who will not vote to override his veto? Whatever happens - there's going to be hell to pay. Look for some big names to be forced to resign from their offices. It's not too late to save the last $350,000,000,000 but we'll likely never be able to recover the first TARP pay out.

Thank God that CBS had the guts to air this broadcast!

Subject: Silence of the Palestinian People

Mr. Obama:

I watched you in the year 2004 and cried when I listened to your speech about the United States of America. I was surprised that you were running for President of the United States of America, but hey I was pulling for you – you spoke with such eloquence, grace and sincerity; I watched faithfully when you announced your candidacy in Springfield, Illinois, I cried again. I watched when you were vilified by the press for Reverend Wright – I cried for you again, that people in your own Country could sabotage you the way they were; but you came through, you delivered that wonderful “race” speech in Pennsylvania – yes I copied it, yes I listened to it at least three times on the Internet, yes I discussed it with people at my work and made them aware of your sincerity for the oppressed and down-trodden, and yes, I cried all throughout the speech, and I cried every time I listened to it (my husband thought we could keep the paper tissue factories in business as long as you were running – because I was always crying); I followed your campaign through all the heartbreak and the wins; and I cried for you; I listened to them vilify your wife; and I cried for you again; (I think she is quite beautiful and that yellow outfit she wore on Letterman was wonderful);

You are now the President-Elect of the United States of America – your victory speech was stupendous; yes, I cried again. I contacted my son in Ohio to see if he could get me some inaugural tickets to your inauguration (I live on Vancouver Island – furthest West Island in Canada) and I was prepared to pay my own expenses, fly down, get a hotel and enjoy the festivities; I cried, because he didn’t know how to obtain those kinds of tickets; but that’s o.k. because my husband (good man that he is and non-political) has created a DVD with your wonderful pictures on it and has it all ready to record all your events on January 20th, 2009;

Unfortunately, in the last 16 days, Israel has run amuck again and as per normal (some of us actually read history and other news) and is out there killing Palestinians with the blessing of the United States of America; and I am crying because you said that “Israel has a right to defend itself”. Well Mr. Obama, the Palestinians also have a right to defend themselves; they are in an Occupied concentration camp, controlled completely by Israel. Now, you being the champion of human rights and the oppressed, I was expecting some support for the Palestinian people as were a lot of people in the rest of the World – but you have become silent or you repeat “there can only be one President at a time in the United States”. That last statement I agree with, however, can you not speak as an individual of the atrocities that are being committed against the Palestinian people? We, the people, around the World and in the United States spoke out, wrote letters and defended you when you were being vilified – can you not defend the Palestinians – we, the people of the World will support you if you do, and, please, so I can stop crying.

Subject: Final Irony in Bush's Farce

For the most part, I find the comments by BuzzFlash interesting. Yet, sometimes you are so narrow-minded that I wonder if your name might be George W. You wrote: Message to Barack: You are Carrying Things a Bit Too Far with This "Bi-Partisan" Nonsense. The Repubs are Just Going to Betray You, So Start Punching and Stop Trying to be "Liked" by Everyone. "Obama to honor McCain on inauguration eve." Yuch!

Give the man a chance. He is doing the one thing that has not been tried in my lifetime (and I'm older than dirt) by really reaching across the aisle by his actions, not just mouthing the words. At this point in time, our nation is so fractured by partisanship that we desperately need something to make us start working together. Do I believe the Republicans are going to change? No, I don't because they don't want to. However, I do believe that if they want to continue to be a viable party in this country, they are going to have to change.

Have you ever heard the expression, "Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer?" If you must be a consistent voice of negativity, try doing it in a helpful manner. At the very least, be supportive of the changes President-Elect Obama is making and wait to see how things work out before being the prophet of doom.

Subject: Bush re-defining torture, again.

January 11, 2009 Bush Defends Harsh Techniques

“The techniques…were necessary and are necessary to be used on a rare occasion to get information to protect the American people,” Bush said during an expansive exit interview that aired on Fox Sunday. And, obviously he has no problem with the enemy capturing our guys and using what is necessary to protect their people. Oh, I forgot, the Bushes have different rules for themselves. You can’t even ask other countries to stop torturing if you are doing it. The president defended those measures repeatedly on Sunday, saying, “I firmly reject the word ‘torture.’ Everything this administration does had a legal basis to it; otherwise, we would not have done it.” All you do is have the Justice Dept re-define anything you choose. If it isn’t torture when we do it then it isn’t torture when anyone does it. I hope every signer of the Geneva conventions brings Bush up on charges. We could use it on his children. “Look, I understand why people can get carried away on this issue, but generally they don’t know the facts,” Bush said of his critics on Sunday. We don’t have to know the facts if you sign an agreement then you are supposed to abide by that agreement and not re-define the entire thing to be used only by us. “But I am concerned that America, at some point in time, lets down her guard,” the president said. “If we do that, the country becomes highly vulnerable.” He still doesn’t get it. He has caused the entire world to look at us as people who do not keep their word. Situational ethics doesn’t work and never has.

A couple of weeks ago Cheney admitted to okaying the torture and now Bush is doing it as well. Lock them both up and waterboard them until they admit it is torture.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20090111/pl_politico/17320

It is a big mistake. We will never be allowed to prosecute another country for torture if we have given our own people a pass. You can't take the high road and say we do not torture when we do not punish torturers. We will be laughed out of the UN and any other International Organizations.

I wish that Tom Daschle's wife was something other than a lobbyist for the pharmaceutical industry. I was hoping that Obama would repeal that 2007 law that forbade Americans to get their prescriptions from Canada at 1/10th the cost for the same medicine. I am not hopeful at this point. I realized the pharmaceutical lobby gave money to Obama but I didn't realize he would hire Tom Daschle to head Health and Human Services.

Subject: Ending the bush Recession

Hi Buzz & Friends,

The graduated income tax is the fairest tax system ever devised. It the best friend of America's poorest people and the middle class of this country. Make a lot of money, pay a lot of tax - what could be fairer?

Republicons have been trying to replace it with a national sales tax - one of the most regressive forms of taxation. They want us to believe that tax avoidance is patriotic, supporting things like off-shoring of corporations to avoid income tax claiming that if taxes weren't so high it wouldn't be necessary. Paying taxes, like serving in the military, is for "little people". If we want the services of government we have to be willing to pay for them.

Tax policy is an area that needs to be studied very carefully and made as fair as it can possibly be. In particular it should be made to advance a national agenda that best advances our critical objectives like energy independence and reducing green house gases. Here in California a few republicans are blocking efforts to balance our state budget by raising tax on gasoline. They don't mind if every public school teacher in the state is laid off - in fact that's what they actually want. They also don't mind if gasoline goes up to 4 or 5 dollars a gallon so long as it's all profit for big oil companies.

I've just about had it with tax cuts, and, for once, I actually support Speaker Pelosi in encouraging President Obama to immediately rescind bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.

I also support using a national gas tax to propel our transition to alternative sources of energy. We have a system for collecting tolls on state bridges called Fast-Trac that could be extended to the highway system that would emulate the graduated income tax. If your vehicle is a gas guzzler you pay more. If it's a zero emissions vehicle, you pay nothing - at least for now. The Fast-Trac devices could be built into new cars and made mandatory for others - if you drive them on state highways. The money collected could replace the gas tax as the primary source of funding for maintaining and improving our highways. Again, what could be fairer? If you use the resource, you help to pay for it.

Improving our country's infrastructure should be the primary stimulus for getting us out of the bush depression - both mental and economic. Any tax cuts should go to those who most need them, retired people on low, fixed incomes who are most impacted by the bad economy. People who are in the bottom tier of wage income should pay little or no tax. All of bush's wars should be brought to a quick end - even in Afghanistan. Doing this may actually be the best way to capture bin Laden and his lieutenants. Practical forms of economic assistance to this country will win hearts and minds like war never will.

Perhaps controversially, I also believe that a lottery-based draft should be instituted concurrently with any Congressional authorization for war. Those responsible for starting a war should have to put their kids at risk right along with everyone else. What better deterrent to war could you find? People who want to kill themselves with cigarettes and alcohol should pay a very heavy tax for the privilege to help defray the cost of their health care in a single-payer system.

In short, tax policy needs to be fair, raise the amount of money required for the services that government makes available, whether at municipal, county, state or federal levels. These policies should be targeted, to wit: use a highway or bridge - help pay for it. They need to be as innovative as necessary to achieve this objective. Infrastructure projects with the potential to make money, like transit systems, bridges, etc. should be at the top of a prioritized list. They may not recoup their cost in a year, but over time they'll more than pay for themselves over and over again, like our Golden Gate and Bay Bridges - both built during difficult economic times. Under-skilled workers, or those with skills that are not currently in demand, could help undo some of the damage that bush-league government has done to our national parks, boosting tourism while allowing people to enjoy and better understand the value as well as the beauty of our natural environment.

Frankly I don't understand what the problem is in Washington - except that people are more interested in lobbyists' money and enacting laws that they think will win them reelection. This is where change is needed most. If this is going to be a progressive era, we need to start on the right foot and step off smartly. As for the cost (investment!!!), if it's set at say 1.2 trillion dollars, it should look like: 1,200,000,000,000 - 350,000,000,000 No more GD TARP money!!!

Subject: Sacrifice?

Obama is telling all Americans to be prepared to make great sacrifices while he prepares for the most lavish inauguration ceremony ever (I think). Sacrifice should begin at the top but I doubt that will happen.

Congress just got a raise.  Do you think these arrogant bast##ds are going to sacrifice? These are the same asses responsible for passing legislation and giving bush everything he wanted enabling this planned destruction of middle class America and the murder of innocents in Iraq and Afghan. The only person in all of congress to question Israel's invasion of Gaza is KUCINICH. Israel is the largest recipient of U.S. Aid. Why should we be sending our tax dollars to this war-mongering nation? So, there's one sacrifice we can make -- stop sending money and arms to Israel.

How about cutting our own military spending in half? How about cutting congress' salary and benifits? How about stop throwing away trillions on unwinnable wars for profit -- War on Drugs, War on Terror. Stop using taxpayer dollars to keep nonviolent criminals locked up filling the prisons for a very crooked privatized system. The revolutionary war started with "no taxation without representation." WELL, HOW 'BOUT IT?

Subject: The chant heard around the world

Dear BuzzFlash:

With the upcoming inauguration of President elect Obama there is still great uncertainty as to the possibility that the Bush crime family and their cohorts will ever face justice. It occurs to me that the American people have an unprecedented opportunity to make a dramatic statement on this vital need for justice and an end to the custom of forgiving our presidents for criminal and murderous activities. There will be over a million people in Washington D.C. for the inauguration of our new president. Some estimates are predicting 2 or 3 million Americans will attend this historic event. Imagine if, at the moment that Obama is sworn into office, there arises a chant from the assembled throngs:

"PROSECUTE BUSH AND CHENEY", "PROSECUTE BUSH AND CHENEY" and that chant is repeated over and over for 2 full minutes.

This display would be impossible for our pathetic mainstream media to ignore and would send a clear message to the world that most Americans want these criminals to face justice. In fact recent polls show that almost 70% of our citizens favor investigations and prosecutions. If BuzzFlash and other online alternative news sites as well as liberal radio talk show hosts (Mike Malloy has already read my email about this on the air) would promote and spread the word on this concept during the next 10 days enough people would know about it to make this protest work. Those who had not heard about it would quickly join in on the chant. Just imagine the impact that a million voices speaking out as one would create!

I have been publicly speaking out against these thugs since Dec. 13, 2000 the dark day that our "supreme" court betrayed democracy by halting the counting of our votes. As the owner of the Grand Lake Theater in Oakland, Ca. I have a unique soapbox for my views. The marquee on my historic movie palace faces nearby interstate 580 and can be seen by over 100,000 people daily. There has been biting political commentary posted on this sign almost constantly for 8 years. If you are interested in seeing our messages just Google Grand Lake theater marquee and the first result on the page is a flickr website that posts the messages and even has a slide show function.

Speaking out gives power to our voices and helps to heal the trauma we have all endured. I have found that my marquee messages have made so many people feel empowered and brought a light of hope in the darkest days of our national nightmare. Please support this concept and spread the word. This can work and there is no "free speech zone" that can stop the roar of a million voices. This is a chant that can be heard around the world!

My first reaction to the Blair House situation was that it was merely snarky and some talented songwriter should compose a litte ditty Georgie The Petty Preppie (to the tune of Puff...). Subject: more on coulter

Hi, Buzz!!

Karen, you said it best: Ann Coulter does have freedom of speech, but why is the MSM giving her a platform? (Never mind, I know why: She gets air time because she generates ratings. End of story.)

The networks should do to her what Kansas newspapers did to Fred Phelps several years ago: They stopped covering him. No news stories, no editorials. He disappeared for awhile, and when he finally resurfaced, it wasn't in Kansas. There was no government censorship; the free press of Kansas simply did its job.

I stand by what I said before: Ann can say whatever she wants, but we are not required to listen. I suggest we all quit watching any network that gives her air time. I quit watching CNN several years ago, partly because she kept popping up there (and because CNN kept running the Swift Boat ads long after they'd been discredited).

The MSM clearly doesn't care about the quality of its product, but they do care about ratings. If we stop watching, and if we let the networks know why we're not watching, we might see some results.

Subject: World Human Spirit Day, 17th February 2009.

Not only is the 17th February the day the USA TV system goes digital it is also World Human Spirit Da.

People will sense a connection between each other when they go into the two minutes silence on Human Spirit Day. It will be a very powerful silent meditation and the more people that participate, the more powerful it becomes to bring about world peace and harmony.

Silence connects us to spirits meaningful forces and in the silence we are renewed and refreshed. If we allow the negative forces to engulf us and do not take authentic action when we can, we are held in bondage ... slaves to ideas, perceptions, beliefs and dogma that do not bring any lasting love and joy.

If we take a story from the Bible, Moses asked Pharaoh to release his people from slavery. Pharaoh did not take any notice and it took ten plagues to make him change his mind. We can look on that story as is in the literal sense, or we can dig a little deeper for meaning and use it as an analogy, to examine our own lives, and find out if we are slaves to our own egos ... Are our own perceptions of life plaguing us into negative mood swings, which will end in ill health, by the fact we are ignoring spirit's true intent?

It is far better to prevent ill-health and avoidable mishaps, before they hold ... There is no better way I know than by tuning into the forces of a free spirit, enjoying life, nourished by the greater universal intelligence recognized by many as God.

Let all the people of the globe connect on World Human Spirit Day to make this world a place of peace and harmony.

"On health care reform, the American people are too often offered two extremes -- government-run health care with higher taxes or letting the insurance companies operate without rules. Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe both of these extremes are wrong, and that’s why they’ve proposed a plan that strengthens employer coverage, makes insurance companies accountable and ensures patient choice of doctor and care without government interference."

http://change.gov/agenda/health_care_agenda/

...then go to the "questions" forum linked in the same site. It seems that most people interested in voicing their opinions to the Administration-Elect disagree strongly with this position. It seems that the people who put Obama into office, and those with enough interest to put in their two-cents, would prefer to eliminate the predatory, barbaric anachronism of the insurance industry from their lives, and to join the rest of the developed to barely developed world in collectively providing for a humane quality of life in their country.

Tell the President-Elect that you are NOT extreme, nor stupid and credulous. Obama must be forced to buck the well-funded political pressures to maintain the wasteful and unjust status quo regarding the health industries and to support the institutional altruism of single payer universal coverage.
