FOX News is Rooting Against the Economic Interests of the United States
MARK KARLIN, EDITOR OF BUZZFLASH AT TRUTHOUT
FOX is rooting against the United States.
Jon Stewart made a pretty air tight case proving that Roger Ailes's FOX propaganda channel is basically a 5th column cheerleading for economic failure in America - as long as a Democrat is president.
BuzzFlash at Truthout noted the irony that if Obama is indeed a "socialist" (which he is not), he should be the hero of capitalism given recent economic developments - particularly a soaring stock market, which is the key economic indicator to the top 1 percent. Yes, "Obama the 'Socialist' Saved Capitalism by Giving Welfare to Wall Street and Red States."
FOX News has become the lead provider of misinformation to the alternative "bubble narrative" of a mythical white United States. Many of its watchers are whites in economic need and distressed by America's shifting demographics - not to mention a black president. Other viewers are the well-off who believe that if you aren't rich, it's your fault. For these people, FOX News creates an ongoing fictional set of factoids to emotionally incite watchers who are looking for a scapegoat.
Stewart, in his segment that decimates FOX's attack on an improving economy, takes note that the RNC sent out a series of talking points to distract Americans from the good news on the financial front. "The Daily Show" details how FOX echoed these partisan diversions.
The motivation of FOX is purely political - as Murdoch and FOX News honcho CEO Roger Ailes lead the charge for the oligarchy and the corporate wing of the Republican Party. The aim of FOX News is to create a "pod people" constituency to elect a GOP president and legislators who will advance the interests of the financially elite. Truth or the good of the nation as a whole have nothing to do with it. News isn't reported; it's manufactured to fit a pre-conceived partisan narrative.
Of course, FOX is treading in dangerous territory when it is dismissing the rise in the stock market and record corporate profits as mere kerfuffle. After all, this represents the achievement of much of their agenda: it's just under the wrong party.
FOX is like the US version of the creators of Potemkin villages. The FOX Potemkin villages, however, thrive on a utopian mixture of Ayn Rand capitalism, Rick Santorum morality, and a Sarah Palin twang. The risk for FOX is that it's Hollywood set of propaganda hogwash - dished out by sexually attractive female and male anchors -- might get knocked down some day in a title wave of truth.
