Time for Obama’s Churchill Moment

4 June, 1940: The Phony War was over. Germany, having easily occupied much of France, was on the march. As Winston Churchill rose to speak, the situation seemed hopeless. Yet, with just this one speech, often referred to as Churchill’s finest hour, he rallied England and the rest of the free world and defined the war to come.
Churchill’s “We shall fight them on the beaches” speech.
We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.
Losing a senate seat in Massachusetts is hardly comparable to the trials and tribulations of World War II. Yet, were one to judge by the panicked response of many Democrats in Congress so far, it would be easy to think otherwise. My God, don’t these people ever get tired of being scared? Wouldn’t you think that once — just once — they’d want to respond to political adversity (real or imagined) by doing something other than running away while screaming “please don’t hurt me?”
For better or for worse, there is one and only one person positioned to end this stampede of gutlessness — and his name, of course, is Barack Obama. From a political standpoint, at least, this is his hour, an hour that will make or break, not just his presidency, but the future of progressive politics for years to come. This must be Obama’s Churchill moment — his hour to stand and fight. And if he doesn’t respond, he’s damn unlikely to ever get a second chance.
Democrats still hold overwhelming majorities in both houses of Congress. They have one year to demonstrate to the American people the power of positive progressive change. If they succeed — if they can pick themselves up off the ground and fight back forcefully and decisively — they can still carry the day politically and do a great deal of good for this nation in the process. If they don’t — if they tuck in their tails and hide — then all that’s left is to wait sullenly for the slaughter sure to come in November.
So we wait for Obama. We wait to see if this will be his Churchill moment.

Time for Obama’s Churchill Moment
Really its a good news. This site has lots of advantage. I found many interesting things from this site. I like it very much. Its so interesting.I want to sharing this topic with some of my close friends. So thanks this post.
No, .... "WE" ...
... aren't waiting for Obama to stand and fight.
Anyone with half a clue and a modicum of reality knows that's not going to happen.
Even break
Don't you liberals get it yet? The Democrats are a corporate-funded party that plays an opposition party on TV. They won't give citizens an even break unless they're forced to.
Voting for the Green Party would give them some real competition, and would force them to start addressing citizens' interests. Unconditionally voting for them makes them take liberals' votes for granted, and represent corporate interests.
Let's talk about food.
For over 20 years, those of us concerned about our health wanted to know the trans-fat (e.g., hydrogenated vegetable oil) content of foods, which until a few years ago only listed total fat and saturated fat. Corporations resisted this because they like putting trans fats in food because 1. they're cheap, and 2. they have a long shelf life. Trans fats cause heart attacks and strokes, but since corporations don't get heart attacks and strokes, reporting this information isn't a corporate need. The food corporations didn't want people to know this, because they'd avoid the unhealthy foods. The Democrats helped the Republicans resist providing citizens with this information for over 20 years.
Genetically-modified foods (Frankenfoods) are dangerous. Not only have the Democrats allowed these untested science experiements to be used without restriction on the American public, but they have allowed the food corporations to not tell us on the label if a product contains these frankenfoods! Citizens need to know this information, but corporations don't. (In Europe, this information must be listed on the label, so citizens can avoid these dangerous products.)
BPA is a component of some plastics (type #7, FYI) that causes diabetes and heart disease. It's used in the plastic that lines virtually all cans used for food. For years the Democrats have allowed this to be used, purposely ignoring the accumulating evidence it's harmful. Banning this type of plastic is a citizen's interest -- not a corporate interest. Use of it continues.
Don't you people get it -- These corporate-funded parties are playing us for suckers, allowing the corporations to degrade our quality of life for their profits! And it won't change while you liberals keep voting for the abusive Democrats!
The Democrats have been bad. Vote GREEN!
Calling Godot...
"So we wait for Obama"...
And wait... and wait... and wait...
I'm prompted to recall the controversy Obama immersed himself into by not acknowledging that his "Just Words" speech wasn't his original work. Not only did this speech accurately project Obama's political style, it also shows that he isn't about to match Winston in any meaningful way. Not in rhetoric, not in emotion, and certainly not in leadership action. If Obama were to have traded places in history with Churchill, Barry would have sued for peace the moment the first German bomb fell on England.
There is no fight in that dog. The nation will suffer now that the GOP has his number.
You are so wrong
You are so wrong. Barry wouldn't have waited for the first German bomb to fall on Great Britain. He would have surrendered the first time he spoke with Adolf and the great dictator raised his voice. Then he would have offered Adolf his services, as a junior partner of course, in forming a bipartisan Nazi occupation of Britain.
Can't Argue The Point!
I was trying to stay within the time context of the Churchill comment, but I have to agree that Obama would have folded up the moment Hitler marched into the Ruhr once the French went home.
Ha ha ha!
Funniest thing I've seen all day! But it's not just Barry; his whole party (like the Republicans) is on the corporate payroll.
