Subject: How does Herbert Hoover's depression compare to Bush's?
Just as today, party members of the GOP were swept up in the party's philosophy and enacted legislation in keeping with its sense of wisdom. Hoover was no exception -- as the party member Reagan put it: "...the major problem of government is government..." Hoover's obsession during his tenure was to keep the impoverished in their place and to favor the wealthy in tax breaks and investments. In many ways this was no different from Bush's policy.
In both administrations the strategy involved one of deciminating the government to borders of anarchy until there was little left to control and regulate and being government nor to care in any way for those in need who were ostensibly unable to compete in modern society. Biographers of Hoover have seen him as a most conscientious president and devoted to his party's philosophy and loyalties, all of which were most conducive to further deepening the depression. After the crash of '29, Hoover scurried about to be assured that prosperity was just around the corner, unfortunately with but little insight into what might change the direction of the economy. He coinded the word "depression". It was not just another recession, but as he pondered the conditions of the sinking economy, he attempted quick fixes.
The economy grew worse with 25 percent or 13 million unemployed by 1933. Hoover tried many things to alleviate economic conditions, but all were without an understanding of the economic dynamics of how things worked to bring about prosperity. A simple principle in economics is to put buying power in the hands of the many. Mass consumption necessitates income distribution that allows consumers to buy goods and services that are mass produced. Without appropriate income distribution, warehouses will burst at the seams and production lines will quickly overproduce. This, along with the hands-off philosophy, was what helped to bring on the depression for both Hoover and Bush.

Subject: The Sack Race in the Senate
Democrats have voluntarily hobbled themselves to the neanderthal breed of republican who created this economic mess in the first place. The Baucus Bill will bend the cost curve upwards, insuring greater profits for insurance companies on the backs taxpayers. Real democrats are fired up and ready to go - it's the three-legged republicrat creatures in the senate that are dragging their feet, their knuckles and anchoring themselves to every corporate capitalist lobbyist who's willing to line their pockets with campaign cash. America can't get anything done because its congress is more interested in making money than in getting something done.
Congress isn't supposed to be an capitalist enterprise - it's intended purpose is to serve as representatives of the people. When these incumbents run for re-election people should remember where and how they got the money to finance their campaigns. These are the most unworthy people amongst us. They were elected to move our country forward and instead are anchoring us to the bottom as the rest of the world moves ahead, providing better services for their people, building high speed trains, electric cars, advancing wind and solar power technologies - all the things that we were promised and are being denied. Four billion dollars for medical "research" - it's like pissing into the wind. GD it - why can't we build something? We could implement a national toll system for our highways and actually generate some revenue to advance our transportation system into 21st century.
Every advanced country in the world has high speed trains except ours. We have to build our way out of this crisis. Painting bridges is not going to hack it. We need projects being built that people can see in order to engender the confidence that we have a future. Obama needs to dump people like Ray Lahood, Tim Geithner and all the other corporate dead beats that he's anchored himself to. The recession is over, employment is a lagging "indicator" lad-di-dah. The stock market is up. It doesn't even take a prick to burst that bubble. Baucus can count - that's one thing you can count on and I'm sure he's spending a lot of his time doing it. America is not a dead beat nation - but we sure have a lot of misogynist racist marsh mellows in the senate who are wasting everybody's time and money to serve their on perceived political interest. It's time to put these babies to bed and get on with the adult business of getting things done. They claim not to need maternity care - thank God there's one kind of care they don't need. They sneer at anything that smacks of internationalism - whether it's the UN or the Olympics. The only kind of internationalism they want is exploitation of labor and war. We want to end the wars we already have - not start a new one with Iran or anyone else. If they're so in love with the brutish nation of Israel - then get their sorry asses on over there.
We don't have the means or the will to further some other country's expansionist agenda. Thanks to the congress the recession is over for the biggest banks in the country and they're free to resume their predations on the people of this country. They're bigger, badder and bolder and as crooked as a dog's hind leg. They also own the congress and most of the government. They're running our military ragged in pursuit of their neocon dreams and a domestic economy based on their "financial services". Anyone need a hole in the head?
Democrats are fired up and ready to go - where's the President?

Subject: Grayson's comments
Alan Grayson is the epitome of what we need in confronting and dealing with the Republican sleezoids! I am so disgusted with our traitorous "blue dog" democrats -- including Blanche Lincoln and Mike Ross of my state -- that I would vote for a any dog over them in the future. For years we have been contributing our $25 and $50 here and there to help get Democrat majorities elected. Then we get the majorities in both houses, and an intelligent Democrat president as well. And who screws everything up? Some of the very a--h---s we sacrificed to elect! Good boy, Grayson!

Dems in Despair Finally Find a Champion Who Won't Back Off Defending Sanity: The Unlikely Hero is Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida.
Oh, this is so disappointing. I've grown to expect that the Rethugs recognize everything besides neanderthal slugging as weakness but BF????????? Yes, in 10 min Grayson took a great stand. But really, this is your hero? Of fuck, we're toast if that is really what you lionize.
