Subject: GOP Greed

I've been trying for some time now to insert an alternate meaning for the acronym GOP into the common venacular. Your headline today reminded me that I hadn't contacted you. I think that we should try to associate the term GOP with what the Republicans really are, "GREEDY OLD PRICKS". I think the phrase has quite a ring to it. How about you guys?

Change doesn't mean you need someone with no experience.

I like Caroline Kennedy, but for a guy already widely believed to be inexperienced to pick a VP with no experience is crazy.

Subject: Top 10 "Red" States For Obama

The way you win 270 Electoral Votes is you aim for 400. So I say take it to them; give them a run for their money. With this in mind I have constructed the following list:

Top 10 "Red" States for Obama

10. Ohio
9. Nevada*
8. Virginia
7. Indiana
6. Colorado*
5. Florida*
4. Missouri
3. North Carolina
2. Georgia
1. Texas*

* Richardson helps

The order of this list is based on a combination of how difficult it would be for Obama to win the state and how difficult it would be for McCain to win the election if he did. The easiest for Obama to pick up are towards the top of the list. The most crucial for McCain are towards the bottom.

Subject: McCain is way ahead with military voters, veterans ...

So those troops who don't donate, or haven't done so yet, appear to back McCain over Obama by a hefty margin.

If I were advising the Obama campaign, then, I'd tell them to attack McCain precisely on his military record, hitting him right where he seems to be the strongest--just as Rove & Co. did with Kerry. Because there's actually a lot more real dirt on McCain-as-pilot (and, reportedly, as prisoner) than there ever was on Kerry.

Not that any of this matters much, as long as Team McCain intends to steal his victory in any case ...

While troops deployed abroad might be giving more money to Barack Obama, a poll released today says that John McCain will get the vast majority of votes from members of the military and veterans.

According to Gallup, McCain leads Obama 56 percent to 34 percent, with 11 percent expressing no opinion or picking someone else.

... The military vote could be a difference maker in several traditionally Republican states where Obama is trying to pull off upsets, including North Carolina and Virginia.

Subject: The Death of Dr. Bruce Ivins

Dear Buzz and Friends,

The circumstances surrounding the death of Dr. Ivins needs to be thoroughly investigated. Maryland state "health officials" have apparently ruled his death a suicide without even performing an autopsy - deeming it unnecessary as a blood sample sufficed to show the cause of death. Are CSI fans watching the show just to view the commercials? This is a most ridiculous finding. It leaves unanswered critical medical questions such as: How were the toxins introduced into his system? When were the toxins introduced? You can't know the answer to the second question without addressing the first - and that can't be done without a full autopsy.

This is not a minor question. It is instead indicative of a pattern of behavior by government agencies connected with this investigation. Why, if Dr. Ivins was suspected of being a mass murderer, was he released from custody on the day he was to be charged? This is a weird legal process to follow. None of it makes sense.

The government seems determined to try Dr. Ivins' case in the court of public opinion on the basis of purely circumstantial evidence. People will make the point that circumstantial evidence is the determinant in many cases. The essential difference is circumstantial evidence is normally presented in support of at least a minimum of physical evidence or eyewitness testimony. Additionally a motive for the crime needs to be produced in evidence. None of this is being done in Dr. Ivins' case. Of course the defense is necessarily hampered in their ability to defend Dr. Ivins by the fact that he is not actually charged with a crime - being conveniently dead.

There is a great deal of circumstantial evidence, including the points made above, to indicate that government officials are yet again lying through their teeth - as has been their want for 7+ years. Political poisonings are a popular tool of autocratic regimes right now. For instance: it's almost certainly inadvisable to be on the enemies list of Russia's prime minister. Putin was recently quoted as conveying Cheney's advice for Leahy to Georgia's president in reference to his agreements with western governments. A careful diet is definitely indicated for Mr. Saakashvili.

The Frederick News Post has published an aggregation of Dr. Ivins' letters to the editor. In these letters Dr. Ivins comes across (IMHO) as a deeply religious man of high moral values, an opponent of discrimination, even a champion of human rights. He writes with the precision and formal courtesy that you would expect of a scientist. These are obviously misimpressions if he was indeed the ogre that the government seems willing to go to any length to convince us that he was. But these same authorities can't even be bothered with the formality of an autopsy - it might introduce an unwanted element of physical evidence into their idle ruminations on the certainty of his guilt.

http://www.fredericknewspost.com/...

It is clear to me that every aspect of Dr. Ivins' death must be investigated as if it were a homicide. This is a national security issue of the very first order. If Dr. Ivins was not an ogre, that fact alone would almost certainly illuminate the entire matter in every direction. The death of Dr. Ivins would have been, by all accounts I have read, particularly protracted and unpleasant. If the anthrax killers (necessarily plural at this point) are still out there - then Dr. Ivins' death would be very much in line with their modus-operandi. We should all consider this very carefully and write to congress demanding a full investigation into the death of Dr. Bruce Ivins.

My thanks to Buzz for helping to keep this issue in public view. Thanks for nothing to MSM.

Tim Mooring
SF CA

P.S. My email to Nancy Pelosi -- Dear Speaker Pelosi, I urge you to take all steps needed to insure that the body of Dr. Bruce Ivins is properly preserved until an autopsy can be performed by an independent team of well qualified forensic specialists.

Subject: What If ... What Would They Say?

What if Barack Obama had been involved with four other politicians in a highly publicized scandal that involved selling political favors...

...would the press be quiet during his campaign, would they call him corrupt?

What if Barack Obama had cheated on his wife and then divorced her because she was no longer a beauty after being disfigured in an auto accident...

...would the press be quiet during his campaign, would they call him immoral?

What if Barack Obama had married a rich socialite 17 years his junior two weeks before his divorce to his first wife was final...

...would the press be quiet during his campaign, would they call him shallow and a bigamist?

What if Barack Obama had used his family connections to get into school and then graduated in the bottom one percent of his class...

...would the press be quiet during his campaign, would they call him privileged and incompetent?

What if Barack Obama had placed his name on 2 bills that he co-sponsored and helped author and then he ran a campaign where he opposed those bills named after him...

...would the press be quiet during his campaign, would they call him a flip-flopper or hypocritical?

What if Barack Obama while on the campaign trail in 2000 angrily called his wife a (unt and a trollop...

...would the press be quiet during his campaign, would they call him sexist or a hothead?

What if Barack Obama still confused details about our current foreign policy even after being corrected 3 times on that very issue, what if he referred in the present tense about helping a country that hasn't existed for over 15 years or he talked about security for a border between two countries that does not exist...

...would the press be quiet during his campaign, would they call him unqualified on foreign policy or incoherent?

Fortunately for America, Barack Obama did none of these things; unfortunately for America, this is a sampling of John McCain's resume.

Why do we not hear about these things when we are hearing about Obama's celebrity status or his inexperience? Where is the liberal media that we are all warned about?

If Barack Obama doing any of the above listed things would give you cause to not vote for him, then you cannot in good conscience vote for John McCain if you are a true American with morals and values.

Feel free to pass this on to friends and family.

Subject: True To One's Self

Does Obama show weakness in embracing Hillary Clinton to join him for party unity?? NO!

Barack Obama can forgive because he is a man true to himself.

Obama is not a devider. He unites with with common sense to know when and how to bring others into the fold.

He is a listener and acts on what he is hearing with understanding of both sides even when one side is his.

Weakness this is not Obama's style. To know one's self, is why he can brush negativity off when directed at him.

Once in a lifetime, if we are fortunate, a man such as Obama will come into our lives. He is as they say, "talks softly and carries a big stick."

Look into this. This is a false flag attack by Russia and the United States. I listened to the Stephanie Miller show this am and I heard the exact same scenario as we have now, in Georgia, when Stephanie played the audio introduction to an older video game. On the game Russia attacks Georgia, and American special forces are involved. Damn these Republican bastards. They did the exact same thing on the book: "Wag the Dog" when they let Clinton have it for "wagging the dog." Then the book, "The Impeachment of WilliamJefferson Clinton." And the Republicans impeached Clinton, and now a video game where Russia invades Georgia and Putin invades at the exact time that Bush, and Putin were holding hands at the Olympics, and yup, they're doing it again. Subject: Smear!!!!

I was getting very concerned...and there is still reason to worry.

No one on this earth can lie and smear like republicans...I know...I know many in my own family.

Even this morning watching Washington Journal on C-span...a vet was on there who is likely getting paid...who is still in Iraq...and who is preaching the word of McCain and his minions... who swears this war can be won and we must stay.

Everyone who called in...debunked it...but, he was on target with the McCain camp...and it is frightening...all the papers and blogs are saying that Obama is losing ground...and the fear is that he is not standing up...although I watched the speech to the AmVets convention and he said in no uncertain terms...that he would not question McCain's patriotism...and he would not sit still for anyone questioning his...but, is that what wins in this country?? The last two elections...I think have proven that the southern half of this country mostly understands and goes right along with the liars. I am sick of it.

Please...everyone out there...do not allow people to tell you that McCain is the one for the job...he is not. He is a billionaire many times over, as is his wife...you can see their millions on the website...the houses...the money...it is sickening. In my own family...my one sister who is trying to stand up...and will...is being preached to by my redneck brothers who are saying to me, "I am voting for one WHITE man and One WHITE woman."

Isn't that hard to believe in this day and age? A cousin, living in a small town...who has never been a rep. voter in his life...is now questioning. They got a forward from some idiot, and sent it on to me...with Obama in his muslim garb...even if so...what did the muslims do to us? Nothing...if they would just understand, every faith has a lunatic fringe...like the christians...have Eric Rudolph and The Covenant Sword and the Arm of the Lord...who likely was responsible for the Oklahoma City bombing...and they are pure evil ... just like al Qaeda...right?

When the country is going to hell and there is nothing to read in the paper each morning but gloom and doom...it is all over...I am so sick of them it makes me want to cry. Please...please...make everyone understand that we are not voting for color...we are voting for our lives...and the lives of our kids and grandkids...it is so depressing!!!

Subject: McCain is against teachers

Buzz,

I don't know when the last time was that McCain taught in an inner city school, but he seems to think he knows what teachers should do. Would McCain like it if when he was presenting, the audience kept talking among themselves, even throwing insults at him and throwing objects? That is what high school and junior high school teachers go through daily. How would McCain handle the day to day life a teacher goes through?

Suppose he tried his best to teach under No Child Left Behind, only to get abuse from administrators and the public? How would he like that? Supppose he tried his best to teach and some kids just didn't want to do the work and he, as a teacher got blamed for it. Would McCain like that?

That irked me in 2000 when Bush used the phrase "Teachers who won't teach" and it irked me when McCain used the phrase "bad teachers." What would parents do if there were no teachers? They say they would like it but where would the built-in babysitting come from then?

Obama should jump on this.

Subject: A Memory Of Bill Gwatney

No doubt by now most have read of the death of Arkansas Democratic Party Chariman Bill Gwatney. You will be reading of his many accomplishments, but I would like to share a memory that always makes me smile.

The Gwatney family is also well known here in Arkansas for its car dealerships, and one promotion they did many times is one I have heard was the idea of Bill Gwatney.

They would have a large inflated dinosaur in the parking lot, and give away watermelons if you took a test drive.

Subject: Suicide Strategy

It is becoming more apparent with each passing day as we approach the November election that the Republicans' strategy, with the gleeful aid of Bush, is to concede '08 to Obama, and to leave the US in such ruin that no one could fix it in four years. Then, they will reappear during Obama's first term in a new, shiny manifestation that will seduce the people but, unfortunately, will still be the Beast.

A cynical analysis above, no doubt, but what other explanation could apply when the administration's Earth-rendering foreign policy continues to backfire in continuum, like one of their cluster bombs? Challenging Russia, even with Sec. Gates' insipid tone and verbiage, is unwise at least and crazy at worst.

"Breakaway States" is MSM State Media's code for 'States that have stuff the White House wants'. Oil, that is. Black gold. Texas Tea. Well, the first thing you know old Dick's a millionaire. The Washington Hillbillies better stick to hunting hand-fed quail, for when they encircle Russia with missiles, then provoke a large-scale military response by killing 10 Peace-keepers and wounding 20, they can expect Russia to respond with its most highly advanced hardware. Make no mistake - the State Media is screaming that Russia started it - so you know by now that the exact opposite of what they told you is true. In just a few ridiculously idiotic global moves, Bush/Cheney and the neocons have cost the US dearly for the present and future terms by severing national ties with the world's future energy players, Russia and China, to cozy up to Arab oil. They even screwed that one up, Royally. The Arabs are ready to dump the US dollar for stronger currencies.

Iraq is about oil. Afghanistan is about a pipeline. Iran is about oil. Chavez is evil because he sits on all that oil and gives it away to poor people. That's not the neocon way. Their way is to break you with manipulated currency values and markets, forever funded by your labor/wages and the blood of your children sacrificed to their endless wars in pursuit of other people's resources. But when these cretins play chess, they just sacrifice all the pawns right away, leaving the country constantly vulnerable to outside attack and internal catastrophe.

There is no strategy. They are willfully and criminally destroying everything we've all worked so hard to build for decades, and they are doing it at Armageddon pace.

If it is indeed part of the Karl Rove Master Plan to decimate America with intentions to recapture the spoils, then we need to hit hard when the DC reptards return from their August vacations. Keep the pressure on Pelosi and Conyers to do their constitutionally-sworn jobs. Demand to see, as a constituent, a copy of any legislation they intend to pass. There's no time out for this bunch. They'll continue to act in their own interests and the interests of their Dual-citizenship countries, not ours.

What is their next move? Africa?

McCain is a little old man, and we tend to fawn over little old men. But McCain is such and is running for President. The fawning should stop! McCain has proven to be the proverbial wolf in sheep's clothing.

After all his lies that have been bleeped out of the MSM enough is enough.

Did he or did he not sit in the cone of silence when Obama answered his questions? The answers are so muddled shows there is doubt that he was. If he was in the cone it would be easy to prove without a doubt! It seemed he heard Obama's answers. Something this new and improved dirty tactics, McCain, is a willing participant in a conspiracy against Obama in this recent debate.

Another story he told about the cross seems to be taken out of a book written by a well known author. A Hero, well o.k, we're guessing. But this McCain story???

Are we to lose another election by theft in letting the GOP through McCain get away by smearing our candidate with their lies and corruption to keep the election close??

Subject: Many Of Us Don't Buy From Amazon

I was about to order "The World at War" and noticed that I'd be buying from Amazon. Many of us have sworn off Amazon until they stop selling animal fighting magazines. They refuse, citing the First Amendment. Fine, by that standard they could sell bomb making manuals or "Ten Best Strategies for Kidnapping Children" which they don't seem to do.

I am a STRONG supporter of the First Amendment and have proved it by letting offensive stuff pass by with only a civil response, a giggle, or a shrug. I and other like-minded people, however, will not support a company which sells materials explaining how to brutalize animals.

I am truly sorry about this and hope you switch to another merchant.

So... McCain is Declaring victory in Iraq? That's Interesting ...

When asked "Who are the three wisest people you know and who would you rely on in your administration?'

Can I ask when General Petraeus declared victory?

Can I ask why McCain is declaring victory in Iraq before Bush? Or did Bush already declare victory with that little Cod Piece Carrier Landing Stunt? (it's so confusing when you've been lied to so many times).

When is SOMEONE going to call out him out on these obvious discrepancies?

When did we arrive at victory in Iraq? And why are our troops still dying there almost every day?!

Can someone ask McCain if our troops can come home now?

Subject: McCain And Warren

Watching McCain on the Warren Forum and seeing him again talk about his imprisonment in Vietnam reminded me why I would never vote for him. He expects us to believe that although his captors wanted to release him because of his father's military rank, he refused, and that he suffered because of his refusal. I wish he would explain how exactly he could have avoided release if they wanted to make it happen. I believe that if his captors truly wanted his release there was nothing he could do to prevent it. It is yet another example of him using his military service shamelessly for self promotion.

Subject: Nancy Pelosi's Refusal To Impeach

Of course Ms. Pelosi has taken impeachment off the table, impeachment would require a trial in the Senate and a trial would mean evidence would have to be submitted to support the articles of impeachment. And there's the rub. Ms Pelosi knows that the evidence of the crimes, both domestic crimes and international war crimes of the Bush administration, is overwhelming, but she also knows that that very same evidence would implicate herself and other high ranking Democrats as co-conspirators to all the crimes of the Bush administration!

The Bush administration claimed all along that select high level members of Congress were briefed in all the unconstitutional secret programs and they raised no objections. That's called complicity and makes you an accessory to the crime and equally guilty as the actual perpetrator.

Subject: PBS, Moyers, Bacevich

Significantly, McCain is still fighting the Vietnam War, instead of realizing that it was the turning point in\of the American Empire. LBJ gave the military complex the Vietnam War to placate them over his Social Program, but we could not afford both so he floated the Vietnam War on taxes, as Bush has done with the Iraq War.

Bacevich holds Democrats equally to blame, says it won't make any difference whether a Democrat or a Republican wins the White House, but I conclude it will. McCain is still fighting the Vietnam War and will seek out wars, over domestic issues. Obama at least is aware of domestic issues.

If there is a hole in Bacevich's analysis, it's that he seems to believe that U.S. leaders care about U.S. interests. My perception is that Cheney/Bush, McCain and the global corporations are sacrificing U.S. interests to finance globalization.

He voted Democrat across the board in 2006 because of promises to get us out of Iraq. Now he is so disillusioned that he observes that the Congress has ceded so much power to the Executive that their sole function is to see that members of Congress get reelected.

[Re: Bacevich -- Tonight Bill Moyers interviews Andrew Bacevich about his new book, The Limits of Power (I have previously read his The New American Militarism, How Americans Are Seduced by War, Andrew Bacevich, liked it, reviewed it and posted it.)]

You can view the video on pbs.org/Moyers http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/... (Parts I & II).

U.S. trade imbalance is $800 billion/year (and the cost of foreign energy is $700 billion). Do the math--something's got to give). Turning point of American power was when LBJ took us into the Vietnam. We were in the black. By 1973, we were in deficit from which we have never recovered. Only Jimmy Carter saw the trend and wanted to reverse it--he was blown out of office by "America Feeling Great Again" Reagan because the American people didn't want to hear that we have to balance the books.

The Department of Defense came up with "Full Spectrum Dominance" to justify American imperialism. But we can't afford global militarism. Case in point, Georgia! Russia knows we have no troops to use there, because of Bush's unnecessary war of choice, the Iraq albatross.

This is well worth watching.

Subject: Crime Is Racist

I reviewed a Chicago Tribune article about right-wing attacks on Obama for his state service with regard to rising crime rates. Two points: it is deflecting blame away from its true source, which is rising poverty from a bankrupting of the economy by bad conservative policies. And, this is the most disgusting, it is conflating crime and a Black man together in an obviously racist subliminal message in what appears to be a reasoned analysis. I emailed the author of the article to point this out.

Subject: A measure of how far things have deteriorated

Vincent Bugliosi's book laying out in exquisite detail the prosecution of George Bush for murder is a must read as it makes a devastating case against him for murder in launching and executing the Iraq war. It makes any thinking caring person burn with outrage at the willful lawbreaking and deliberate manipulation of the American people into supporting this illegal and immoral monstrosity of human carnage. If enough people read it, it is likely to perhaps even motivate a groundswell of public sentiment to see Mr. Bush hauled into the dock of justice and made, finally, to be held fully accountable for the malevolent horror that he unleashed.

However, it is precisely the powerfully compelling nature of Bugliosi's case and his stellar reputation as a prosecutor that must send shock waves of fear through the right-wing establishment in this country since they know that his words carry enormous weight. So as Bugliosi has documented the corporate media apparatus has essentially treated his book as invisible and frozen him out of any coverage, including, as ABC radio has done, going so far as to refuse advertising for his book.

This to me is the most chilling development of all. Our democracy, which needs as its lifeblood the open and free exchange of ideas, has now been effectively murdered by the right-wing propaganda apparatus which seeks to silence and suppress any and all people who are critical of this group of megalomaniacal madmen. This is the real danger to us all. It has demonstrated to the venal, power hungry and corrupt neo fascists of the ruling elite that the people can now be effectively manipulated by the so called "mainstream media" into following whatever perverse action they wish to take by a well orchestrated campaign of lies and misinformation.

And those who may dare, in the best American tradition of duty of service to their fellow man and country, dare challenge the official narrative of fiction, will be ignored or deliberately discredited. The plain indisputable fact is that the media was complicit in enabling this war and its attendant carnage, as well as the destruction of our civil liberties and the commitment to the rule of law and now they are engaged as accomplices after the fact in covering up the crime.

Subject: The Saddleback Questions

We watched this from beginning til end. There had been assurances that McCain was secluded in a cone room and could not hear the questions being asked of Obama.

When it was McCain's turn to be questioned, we did not see his usual reactions to questions. As Candy Crowley remarked after McCain had answered several questions, "He seemed to answer before the question had been finished." His answers were given without the least hesitation or contemplation. Usually, when asked a question, his hands go to his head, to his mouth, to his head again, he looks from side to side, and then he answers.

There is little doubt in our minds that McCain knew what the questions would be and had already prepared answers. Later, when it came out that he was actually in a vehicle on his way to the church while Obama was being questioned, our suspicions were confirmed. The good preacher had essentially lied and only an idiot could believe McCain was not enabled with the questions.

His answers were sadly lacking and showed little evidence he had actually used any brain power.

Subject: Where Can We Find Help?

As a single mom who recieves NO child support whatsoever, and struggles along on a part time, low wage job, I hear reports occasionally on the radio that make me pause. "And now for our economy report, Last Quarter, 70,000 jobs lost". "Latest reports, one in every four hundred and thirty eight houses going into forclosure". "forty eight million uninsured"..... and on...and on...and on.

I don't listen to the radio very often anymore. I never watch the cheesy reality shows that exploit the emotions of Americans in Crisis. When I am struggling with how I'm going to feed my children, I'm not particularily worried about who won the latest round of American Idol. I have to wonder just how many Americans are watching American Idol in motel rooms they are staying in because they just lost their jobs, or homes, or both.

I find myself, almost feverishly asking when and where all this is going to end and what we, not just as Americans, but as basic human beings can do to alleviate the immediate crisis. Cut hair, wash cars, clean houses, wash windows, yard work? babysitting? petsitting? As the crisis deepens, we are being called on to tighten our belts, and get real creative, real quick. On and on and on it goes, where it stops, nobody knows. One thing is sure, we're all in this together.
