Karl Rove Wins BuzzFlash's Media Putz Award for His Steaming Pile of "Memoirs"

BUZZFLASH MEDIA PUTZ OF THE WEEK

r

Karl Rove

For reporting that is an embarrassment to the profession of journalism, and for being beholden to corporate paymasters rather than the citizens of America.

Karl Rove hasn't ever had the honor of winning our coveted Media Putz Award, though he's been a multiple offender at GOP Hypocrite of the Week.

Like many of his colleagues who contribute to Newsweek, the Wall Street Journal and FOX "News," he was a political huckster before he became a pundit. Now that he's a right-wing media contributor and author, all that's about to change.

In his online bio, Rove tries as hard as he can to solidify his acceptance into the media elite by quoting his brand-new friends at the fourth estate lunchroom table:

As a Fox News contributor, Karl provides a “genuine feel of inside knowledge,” says David Zurawik, Baltimore Sun television critic. Megan Garber, of the Columbia Journalism Review, says Karl has “focused his punditry on what he knows best: strategy.” Even the New York Times acclaims that “Rove’s substantive contributions may now inspire a little work ethic among the celebrity talking heads who may be forced to bring to the news a little more data and a little less opinion, a recalibration that would be welcome to its devoted viewers.”

Also, it's pronounced "Architect," not "Bush's Brain," OK?

Anyway, while Rove talks the media talk, his memoirs tell a different story. He named the book "Courage and Consequence," though one of the men he tried to destroy (and then lied about trying to destroy in said book) deems the tome "less memoir than hoax."

We haven't read Rove's book yet, but Media Matters got an advanced copy. They've had enough time to put together a list of his lies, and then debunk them one by one (click on the lie to activate the debunking magic):

1. Rove distorts Senate report to claim Bush didn't "lie us into the war"

2. Rove falsehood: Obama claims "Obamacare would not add to the deficit ... evidence shows just the opposite"

3. Rove revives tired smear that Gore wrongly said "that he had created the Internet"

4. Rove revives Gore-Love Story smear

5. Rove falsehood: Gore said he had "discovered the Love Canal chemical disaster"

6. Rove pals around with falsehood that Ayers was "Obama's great friend"

7. Rove wrong on number of presidents who left office by "assassination or resignation"

Way to carry on the legacy of lies, Turdblossom!

So now Rove can get what he wanted all along: the attention of the media watchdogs at BuzzFlash. After all, sometimes being a two-time GOP Hypocrite just isn't enough for some people. And that's why Karl Rove is our Media Putz of the Week.

A Kinder Gentler Karl Rove

I remember in the days of Nixon, there was a guy, a Donald Segretti. who was in charge of dirty tricks.  He was more or less treated like slime in most of the media and faded into oblivion.

Karl Rove likes to be thought of as Bush's brain or The Architect, the latter being preferred. Nice status, up there with the truly famous like Frank L. Wright. But, I think he is just an ugly version of Donald Segretti who is now trying to turn a buck, and gain some media attention.

I think it is difficult to plan a campaign that is clean, effective, truthful, and represents the people under the bell curve of Americans. I think Karl Rove took the easy way to plan compaigns based on the disingenuous.

Giving him air space now should be limited to being on shows like Beck, Rush, Hannity and the rest of the wingies. This is where he belongs at best.  That is how I see it.
