College Students Who Protest for Affordable Higher Education Merit the BuzzFlash Wings of Justice Award

COLLEGE STUDENTS WHO PROTEST FOR AFFORDABLE HIGHER EDUCATION

Last week college students throughout America protested against tuition hikes at public colleges and universities that are rapidly putting higher education out of the range of affordability for most Americans.  Worse yet, economically strained state budgets are giving fewer scholarships and requiring students and their families to take out loans from the big banks that brought America to the brink of bankruptcy.

The double digit rise in college tuition at state schools is the tail end of the "Reagan Revolution" to turn America into a two class system: 1% super wealthy and the rest vassals of the priviliged few.

At a time when activism for the common good often appears confined to Internet petitions, once again it is the young who are engaging in physical and vocal protest against the dampers being put upon the future of our nation by the Republican decades-long effort to reverse the American revolution and turn the U.S. into a feudal oligarchy.

It is refreshing and hopeful to see the young are reminding us that a nation that mortgages its future to the bulging bank accounts and investments of a few is a country that is setting itself up for moving backwards in time not forwards.

Public education lay the groundwork for the innovative, evolutionary, technologically advanced great force in the world America became.

College students who rise up in anger against restricting reasonably-priced access to knowledge remind us that the "Reagan Revolution" is a historical devolution that values greed, ignorance and propaganda over truth, progress and enlightenment.

Young people who are America's future and want nothing more than the chance to advance their own education and move the nation ahead merit this week's BuzzFlash Wings of Justice Award.
