Prince Romney Wins BuzzFlash's GOP Hypocrite of the Week Award for Misunderstanding the Definition of Monarchy

Mitt Romney

Welcome back to the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week.

Much was said of the launch of the "new" GOP from a pizza parlor in a mall in Virginia. The attempt, featuring former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Minority Whip Eric Cantor and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, was laughable on many levels. But as any gathering of Republicans usually yields its fair share of duplicity, the event at Pie-tanza was marked by typical hypocrisy.

The event was all about change -- without actually changing, of course. But did you hear this fundamental shift from Romney?

"We’re the party of the revolutionaries. They’re the party of the monarchists."

Yes, he's talking about the GOP. If you having trouble taking that statement in, here's video confirmation -- coupled with that Daily Show snarkiness that helps the craziest Republican hypocrisy go down smooth (Romney's ridiculousness comes in at about 2:15):

As Jon Stewart points out, Romney seems to have his facts a little confused. He's the one who's the son of a former governor of Michigan and presidential candidate. It's the Republican Party that favors passing the torch in the direction of one's lineage. You know, it's really too bad the video shot is so tightly focused on Romney. We'd really like to see the look on former President George H.W. Bush's son's face at that remark.

This is a totally transparent attempt to appear to be the party of the ordinary Joe. But now that even Joe the Plumber is quitting the GOP, one wonders how long these princes can keep up their act.

And that's why we're giving this BuzzFlash's GOP Hypocrite of the Week Award to Mitt Romney, or as Jon Stewart calls him, the "presidential candidate" and "son of a former governor" who's "sitting next to the third Earl of Bushington."

Yeah, that's downright revolutionary.

Remember our motto: So many Republican hypocrites, so little time. Catch up with you soon!

This is the fourth HOTW Award for Mitt Romney. He also won the award on March 27, 2009, February 8, 2008 and December 15, 2006. You can see a list of all previous nominees here.

That line concurs with the teabaggers....

Romney's remark seems to be part of an attempt for the GOP to identify themselves with the Revolutionary War. Like most everything with the GOP these days, that identification is both arbitrary and incoherent, based on the flimsiest analogy possible (Americans didn't like the king's taxes! We're the anti tax party! Therefore, we are EXACTLY LIKE the Founding Revolutionaries!).....The truth of course is that the Founders were against taxation without representation, while the modern GOP has disenfranchsed more Americans than any other entitiy in this country's history......But hell, the GOP doesn't look at their problem as a philospohical or moral one, but rather a problem with marketing...Keep this in mind as their incoherence reaches new heights of idiocy before its all done.
