For his 50-state strategy and Internet fundraising, Howard Dean is our Wings of Justice award

Howard Dean

Not only did Howard Dean pave the way for the astonishing campaign of Barack Obama with his 2004 Internet and "meet-up" presidential campaign, but he also paved the way for Obama's electoral landslide with his emphasis, as DNC Chair, on a 50-state strategy.

Dean received a lot of resistance to the concept that Democrats need to compete in every state. In fact -- ironically -- Rahm Emanuel, Obama's newly minted Chief of Staff, and Chuck Schumer so tenaciously opposed Dean's 50-state approach in the 2006 election cycle that they were reportedly barely on speaking terms with Dean. (Emanuel and Schumer headed up the Democratic campaign fundraising and strategy for House and Senate elections, respectively, in 2006.)

But Obama's realignment of the electoral map in 2008, along with many of the Congressional wins in 2006 and 2008, proved that Dean's strategy was right from the get-go. Obama's brilliant campaign team had a foundation to work with, and they rode it to victory.

Dean is stepping down from the DNC post, as is the custom when a new president of one's party comes to power. It is, however, a bit of an irony given that Dean's foresight and pioneering Internet campaign in 2004 planted the seed for the Obama campaign.

Expect to see Dean's formidable vision possibly show up in an Obama cabinet, perhaps as Secretary of Health and Human Services. There's a good doctor in the Democratic house. Why not use him to benefit the nation's health?

A lot is owed to Howard Dean. Barack Obama probably wouldn't be president if Dean hadn't set the stage for an Internet campaign and brought the 50-state approach to the DNC.

For that, Dean more than merits the BuzzFlash Wings of Justice Award. Without his vision, democracy might not have been saved.

What Obama Does With Dean

will tell us a lot about the kind of administration we can expect.

Already too much DLC type influence is being seen: Rahm Emanuel, Joe Biden, and even a reluctance to dump the disgusting Joe Lieberman!

Didn't anyone ever listen to Molly Ivins? Dean is the leader who turned it around for the Democrats. His Democratic wing has won, but will it all be given away to those who failed to oppose the Bush-Cheney criminality? Are we to surrender to the Neocons again? (They were definitely not all in ther Republican Party; some have been masquerading as Democrats!)

Howard Dean is not only the hero who got it right -- against the DLC opposition of Emanuel, et al -- but he was the only one to voice the only means to bring about a real peace in ther Middle East: be honest and just to all concerned. Our bias has been the insurmountable obstacle for too long!

Last Wednesday, I was thinking of Howard Dean and how prescient he was in insisting upon a 50 state strategy and how effective that strategy was in Obama’s victory. Now the person responsible for the strategy is stepping down and the Putz and the Nutz who were so adamantly against it and now so prominent in promoting the same U.S. long term war crimes enabling, genocidal and ethnically cleaning, imperialistic, expansionist policies of the real rogue state and focal point of evil in the Middle East, Israel, are right up there calling the shots.

I would suggest that BuzzFlash temper its euphoria over the election of Obama. Based on those upon whom he has intimated he will rely for advice one should not expect the monumental changes. One should not even expect incremental changes. I expect no more than “ornamental” changes.

They’ll be lip stick on the same pig and get this, some rouge on the jowls and perhaps dangling ear ring substituting for the infamous "earmark". However, it will still be the same porker. Then when the masses of the most cognitively challenged nation in the developed world get "porkered" again, one will easily visualize the erotemes floating above their heads like helium filled balloons.

Instead of the slogan of Clinton's campaign in 1992,
"It's the economy, stupid!"
The cry should be,
"Hey, stupid, it's not the economy, it's the system."

Changing the helmsman of the Ship of Foolhardiness is a meaningless exercise, for that helm has no more connection to the "rudder" than the child's toy steering wheel attached to passenger side dash board has to the steering mechanism of the vehicle.

While the child-minded have been duped into thinking the new helmsman will steer a different course, the real masters of control remain unobtrusively manipulating every maneuver.

Paraphrasing Herbert Morrison, the radio announcer so overcome with emotion upon witnessing the explosive fire of the Hindenburg in Lakehurst, NJ, he cried out,with voice cracking
"Oh.the humanity."

To what we are witnessing today, I say,

"Oh, the inanity."
"Oh, the insanity."
"Oh, the vacuity."

We have become a nation of naif-like Linuses, sucking our thumbs, clasping "security blankets", forlornly standing in the pumpkin patch waiting for the "Great Pumpkin" to appear only to be once again be left facing another pumpkin-headed Charlie Brown.

WE HAVE HILLARY TO THANK FOR TEACHING US TO FIGHT... and DENNIS FOR HIS PASSION... DEAN FOR HIS VISION... RICHARDSON...GORE...KERRY... and that is SUCH a short list.... BILL ON INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS... RICHARDSON... and so ON AND ON... the list is MIGHTY. PRESIDENT OBAMA will have many battles, and God knows the RUNNING-OUT-OF-EXCUSES REPUBLICANS are going to put up many roadblocks---- but LOOK AND ADMIRE the HUGE TEAM of great politicians we DEMOCRATS have with which to work. LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC (WITHOUT THE REPUBLICANS!!!) BIDEN/CLINTON in 2016 !!!
