On the public dole? Pillar of Notoriety? Nominate Your 2008 Worst Pol By Going to 'Comments'

BE ELECTED
by Christine Bowman

Corrupt? Hate-mongering? Self-serving? Greedy?  2008 was a boom year, all right! We absolutely must pause to "honor" America's worst politicians.

American politicians battled mightily for votes in 2008, but many vied with equal vigor to earn a darker place in the annals of history. In 2008, Americans nationwide got to know local and regional "public servants" -- Rod Blagojevich, Eliot Spitzer, William Jefferson, Ted Stevens, Elizabeth Dole -- whether they cared to, or not. Driven by ego, ignorance, greed, or their sex drive, these losers grabbed headlines and increased name recognition due to misdeeds great and small.

Though most will pale in comparison to America's top dogs of 2008 (Bush and Cheney), BuzzFlash invites you, our readers, to nominate your favorite loser who has been on the public payroll in 2008.

Nominate the obscure or the renowned -- as long as they were on the public payroll in 2008 and they earned your scorn. Let's heap some well-earned ridicule.

BE ELECTED

Worst politician?

Although not named in the credits for 2008, I nominate "the baby jebus" for the influence he held over the politics of all of those mentioned above. We simply have to get back to a government that truly believes in the separation of church and state.

I Feel Like a Kid in a Candy Store!

There's just so much to chose from! So here's a Top Eleven (Ten Just Can't Contain 'em All!) list of my Personal Worst, in no particular order:

- Ralph Nader, for chucking his legacy as a fearless organizer and advocate down the toilet to engage in a racist, and largely nonexistent, Presidential campaign against Barack Obama - Would he have used those same tactics if Hillary Clinton had won the Democratic Nomination, I wonder?

- Hillary Clinton, for running a bigoted, ugly (and badly-run!) Presidential Nomination Campaign - You want to manage the Most Powerful Country in the World, when you can't even manage your own husband and a handful of his favorite cronies?

- John McCain, for falling into the same trap Hillary Clinton and Ralph Nader did, and selling his soul and reputation for a shot at the Brass Ring. Though a part of me thinks McCain doesn't really belong here, but on "The Most Tragic Political Figure of 2008" list instead....

- Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Steney Hoyer and every other DLC "Centrist" Democrat, for being more concerned about keeping their perqs than for Doing The Right Thing and PUNISHING The Criminal Treasonous Bush Regime in toto!

- Gen. David Petraeus, for letting his ambition get the better of his oath as a soldier, and huckstering for The Traitors Bush/Cheney/whoever. (Maybe another contender for "Most Tragic Political Figure of 2008"?)

- Alberto Gonzalez, John Yoo and David Addington, for giving a legal figleaf to the use of torture - because it's never too late to give torturers a BIG taste of their own medicine!

- Michael Mukasey, for completing the destruction of the DoJ by his predecessors Ashcroft and Gonzalez, and Protecting the Treasonous Bush Regime At All Costs.

- The Traitors Bush, Cheney and Rove (yes, he was still politicking for The Traitor Bush even though he no longer had a formal position) - for every crime you can imagine a politico committing - and managing to transcend them by supporting torture, raping the Bill of Rights, and flushing the economy and infrastructure down the toilet! Digging this lot up from their graves and killing them over and over again is too good for them....

- Holy Joe the Quisling Lieberman, for proving that "bipartisanship" is just a nice-sounding name for being a two-faced hypocrite. A repeat turncoat on the order of the notorious French politico Tallyrand - and an excrescence on an already corrupt Senate! Gotta give Holy Joe credit for sinking to the bottom of the shit when most everyone else is already neck-deep in it....

- Sarah Palin, for beating out George W. Bush and Dan Quayle as as the most proudly ignorant and narrow-minded piece of White Trash ever to get close to the White House - and calling her that is an insult to White Trash.

But - in order for a change, the worst hands-down.... - Every Republican, period, for continuing to support the Treasonous Bush Regime long after it was crystal-clear that Any True Patriot would drag the whole lot of 'em, kicking and screaming, out of the White House and horsewhip them all the way to the halls of Congress, where they could finally be tried for their crimes! Even the ones I used to think might deserve some special dispensation in the past, like McCain or Arlen Specter, proved they were in the end just motivated by political PWN!age of libburuls than by any higher consideration for the nation they are or were supposed to be governing and protecting....

Candy store?

drug store is more like it, "Doc".

Of all the horrible Republican choices, Ralph and Hillary make the top of your list? Guess it's true what they say ....... the moronic idiots who fool themselves always blame others for their own stupidity. How many times was it that you voted for (contributed to, canvassed for) those racists Ralph and Hillary?

Being the perennial dupe is funny, "Doc" ....... not in an endearing, "ha-ha" way, but in a "it's funny that the dittoheads really believe all of the crap that spews from Rush's mouth" kinda way.

Public dole

How about all those southern states so enamored with "states rights" and so anti Federal.
Washington who gladly take in more largess in federal money than they contribute to to the Treasury. Their states each represent the Mothers of all Welfare Queens.

So Many Pols!!!!! So Little Time!!!

I agree that both Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi both had a chance to make a huge impact on the country in 2008 but they chose to cater to the blue dogs and the rethugs and passed up the opportunity. For this they both get an honorable mention from me. But by far the worst Pols in 2008 and maybe in the history of our country are the Southern Senate Republicans!! I think that they are in the process of re-establishing the idiotic "Know Nothing Political Party" of the past. The people in the Southern States that voted for these idiots are to be pitied as time and time again they have voted against their own best economic and political well being and against the common good of all Americans to take a stand against things like separation of church and state, contraception, gay marriage and the Iraqi insurgents. So all of these Southern Rethug Senators get my Honorable Mention vote but by far the worst of these "Know Nothings" are Mitch McConnell, Richard Shelby and Bob Corker for their stand against the bailout of the US Auto Industry and their wholehearted support of the bailout of the their fat cat contributors from Wall Street. These guys keep screwing the American worker and the American family time and time again!!!!

Joe Lieberman

Supported Cheney and Bush in their lies and in their export of death and destruction. Undermined the Republic by holding back investigations of their acts. Continues to have his way with the Democrats by holding onto his Chairmanship, further mocking Reid and the 43 Democrats who voted in favor of Lieberman keeping his seat. Having betrayed his Party at every opportunity, he will have the ability in the future to undermine the new Administration by leaking info to his Republican allies whenever he disagrees with Obama's policies and by making it impossible to have meaningful Party discipline under Reid. What did Reid get in return, a potential 60th vote? We already know that on any given vote, Reid can't hold more than 40 Democrats together. He is not a leader.

Worst pol

There is no worst pol. They are all the worst pol. Democrat or Republican. The American people, unless they were billionaires or at least multi-millionaires, were treated like step children who were here to serve the Washington royalty.

Bush/Cheney/Pelosi/Reid

Ohgodohgodohgod, it's so hard to DECIDE. . . . Who did the worst damage? I can't pick between the two who continued an eight-year run of corruption, deregulation, Constitution-shredding, and general lawlessness and looting, and the two who were faced with the tough decisions . . . and did nothing. Faced with a golden opportunity to take a stand . . . and did nothing. Faced with a screaming imperative to take the leadership position when it was clear to PARAMECIA that everything was crumbling and it was time for the Democrats to stand UP . . . and did nothing. Aw, hell. Bush and Cheney DID stuff, and it was all corrupt. So I go with the actively corrupt, instead of the flacidly corrupt.

Steny Hoyer

...for aiding and abetting Pelosi and Reid. Extra credit for announcing his disregard for the netroots and bloggers of what he considered the far left. Finally, special notice of his attempts privately and publically to infuence the President-elect against the progressive wing of the party.

Worst Politicians

You can name lots of politicians that have hurt the USA in 2008 ,but hands down there is NO ONE that can compare to Bush ,and Cheney .I am not a young man ,and in my life time I have never seen the destruction that Bush ,and Cheney continued through the 2008 year .Their destruction ,AND policies, Domestic ,and foreign I am afraid have taken the USA to a point of no return

2008 worst pol

All of the ones already mention are great but what about Polosi and Reid. Two of the worst democrats ever to serve in Congress. I could mention many more but hopefully they will change after Obama assumes office.

Worst Pol

Although there were so many Republicans who ranked high, Reid was always in the bunch just waiting for that opening. He left the pack far behind and is a runaway slug leaving the others in his and their slime with his assertion that he/they (the Democrats) will refuse to seat Roland Burris to fill Obama's senate seat.

We've had 8 years of the rottenness, hypocrisy, lying, corruption and an election that was supposed be about hope and change.

Plus ça change, plus c’est le même chose!

Bush Administration

Hands down.

Michele Bachmann

Michele Bachmann, Michele Bachmann and Michele Bachmann. Oh, did I mention Michele Bachmann?

Sarah Palin

Not so much because of what she did during her cartoonish run for the VP, and her casual, prima donna-ish venality in ripping off the Alaskan government and the RNC, but for what she is and where she intends to "lead" the GOP--right back down into the same black hole of treason and catastrophe as Cheney and Bush.

America's worst politician of 2008

fahma said: Mitch McConnell of Kentucky is one of the worst, if not #1, because he has effectively stopped all Congressional progress for the entire year.

(I still believe that ALL progress in this Country has been made over the objections of pseudo-conservatives like Mitch).

(Hmmmmm... now I'm trying to remember if the majority made any attempts at progress in 2008...).

Thanks!

Reid/Pelosi

Numbers 1 and 2. Either order will do. This pair of so called Democratic leaders have rolled over and over for the Republican Party in their subversion of the rule of law, legislative obstruction, infidelity to their oaths of office and service to moneyed powers. They are worse than the Republicans because they profess to actually want change but have nothing after two years in power to bring it about through any act of Congress.
