After the Saxby Chambliss win, Dems have to ask how they can win in the South

by being democrats? By favoring the common man, by abandoning their elitist airs? By pushing for the well being of the oppressed and considering what their actions will reap. Promote small business, giving them advantages over large corporations; answer the lies that conservatives tell. Acknowledge that in the final analysis progressive means populist and restore that democrat means progressive. It doesn't (shouldn't) mean spit that one party vanquishes another if you can't tell them apart. Stop talking down to the south, it takes a lot of courage being progressive here, don't tar us all with the same large brush. And, as in so many other issues, stop attacking democrats and progressives of faith; you had a vibrant base of progressive Christian, Jews and Muslims in the seventies whom you alienated with your snide, arrogant remarks, so they went someplace else. It is easy to convince someone that someone is their enemy if they constantly abuse and ridicule them. You don't have to like us, and you sure don't have to agree, but accept us for who we are.

It wouldn't work, Taxasathiest2. The reason: Because unlike the wimpy democrats who allow the repugs to get away with election fraud and preventing voters from casting their votes, the repugs would stand up and fight and not allow any of their votes to be taken away. In this situation, the democrats need to grow a spine. With this said, I DO think the democrats need to stop rolling over our their backs and allow the repugs to pound them with their lies. Instead, the democrats need to push back and expose some of the repugs garbage that they're feeding to the public. In the case of Max Cleland, when the repugs came out with their ad calling him "weak on terroism", he should have showed an ad of himself with two missing legs and one missing arm and explained that he left his limbs on the battlefield in Vietnam while Chambliss pulled every string in the book to avoid doing his "duty". Then ask the qestion, "If Chambliss was too chicken to fight for his country then, what makes you think he'll defend our country now?" Sort of the same idea, but not a lie. Heck, Bush certainly hasn't made our country safer.

I live outside of Atlanta, GA. This is Bush-Palin-Chambliss territory. Reasoned debate and logic have no meaning here; it is like the twilight zone. This is a state that overwhelmingly elects people like Zell Miller to the governorship, Saxby Chambliss to the Senate and George Bush to the White House. In the rest of the country, George Bush may have a 22% approval rating, but here it is still at least 75%. Can the Democrats ever win here? Doubtful. Unless they're willing to become just like the Republicans, which means stealing votes while praising Jesus.

If southern voters can't see their own best interests without extensive retraining and education, use the GOP's own tactics against them, ala Jiu-Jitsu. No more Federal Tax Dollars going to the Southern States until they clean up their elections. They are the most socialist, welfare States in our Union. They are right up there with Alaska for having their hands out and taking from those who make the money, and have become those who take the money. Get rid of all those machines and go back to the paper ballots and hand counting that the other big Democracy does, namely Canada. And have the UN send in observers to make sure that all of the people who want to vote, can without being harassed and that the counting of the votes is correct. Then we will see who actually wins. When the UN says it was a fair election, then we can maybe see our way to giving them a helping hand. You know, some of the that there Socialistic money. My West Coast Money. My Liberal Money.

here in Georgia. Many days for the last couple of weeks our home was inundated by slickly produced mailings from PAC's and the Chambliss campaign. The airwaves were also swamped with his commercials. The mailings screamed that "liberals" wanted total control of Congress. There were so many lies and half-truths that I can't possible list them all here. All in all, the Republicans proved that any campaign can be won if you throw enough money at it and make sure to create fear in the voters if you opponent wins. I worked all day on Tuesday making phone calls to try and get the vote out and my son was out knocking doors for several hours. Democrats stayed home in droves, although I did talk to many voters who understood the need to give Pres.-elect Obama a chance to get some legislation through Congress. My husband says that problem is that Georgia has always been a one party state, rather like the old Soviet Union. So here I sit with neither a Representative or a Senator who will represent my interests in Congress. I appreciate the fact that DNC Chair Howard Dean worked to build up the state parties, but the Obama group felt he was wasting resources on hopeless cases. I suppose that means with Dean on the way out and Barack Obama heading the party, we're going to have to move to another state to find a local Democratic Party with backbone. I guess I should get packing. Then the South can secede again and I won't care

Two necessary ways to win in Georgia: The DNC needs to continue its 50 state strategy, and the Democratic President and Congress need to govern well, no, exceptionally well -- so exceptionally well that even some Crackers will notice. What else can you do except cheat or appeal to their racism and Christianist mis-beliefs? That is the game of the other side and, hopefully, we'd rather lose than play the game the Filthy Shameless Chambliss way. How do you spell low life? C-H-A-M-B-L-I-S-S.

Georgia is the most crooked electoral state in the country. To fix that, see to it that anyone qualified to register to vote can register. Then allow all registered voters a vote. Cast paper ballots and count them all. That's how to win in Georgia or any place else.

the same as his last win against Max Cleland..? Could they (RNC) be so stupid, in Georgia as to cheat again...with a Democratic President, and Congress? If they cheated (again) and are caught...well...?

Just dump all the "voting machines" and let the voters vote. Also, hire a third party (possibly someone from OUTSIDE the U.S.), to count the votes.

This strategy would have been very helpful in the year 2000. It would have saved us from two (that we know of) unnecessary wars, countless international embarrassments, and the 6 years long recession that was just announced the other day. Actually, they should have said “depression”, naming it for what it is. They just can’t stop lying, can they?

Who can tell for sure they haven’t been lying about the runoff election results?
