Do something Sarah Palin can't: Tell us on the first try which countries you've visited

BE-ELECTED
by Chad Rubel

Perhaps I am spending too much time on this issue, how many countries Sarah Palin has been to in her life.

And yes, I did make fun of her because she gave us a small list that included a refueling stop in Ireland. After being caught in that distortion, Palin doesn't mention Ireland anymore.

But in her original list, she didn't mention Canada, the country that is a very short distance from Juneau, the state capital of Alaska. Since Juneau is the only U.S. state capital you can't drive to, getting to Canada might be a little difficult. But her people did admit later that she has been to Canada.

And I thought we were done. After all, when you are asked multiple times how many countries you have visited, you should be able to come up with a thorough answer, especially if you don't have to take off your shoes to count them all.

But last night, in her interview with ABC's Charlie Gibson, Palin mentioned Mexico. Mexico is a foreign country, one we have even been to war with, though we aren't asking Gov. Palin to know this. (We also fought against Canada, sort of, but this isn't a history lesson, is it?)

Now if Sen. Joe Biden was asked how many countries he has visited, and didn't name all of them right away, he might be forgiven. After all, Biden has traveled to a lot of countries, including Georgia within the last 2 months. My hunch is that he could name all the countries he has been to, even if he has to take off his shoes to do so. That is what you get when you have a "big fat resume that shows decades and decades in that Washington establishment."

Speaking of Georgia, Gov. Palin mentioned Russia, and noted that you can see part of Russia from part of Alaska. Let's give credit: she's probably right on that. And if Palin was at that point in Alaska in the Seward Peninsula northwest of Nome, and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin or Russian President Dmitry Medvedev were on that part of Russia, that meeting would mean something.

However, when you consider that the capital of Russia is Moscow, and Gov. Palin works a lot in Anchorage, let's take a look at some distance numbers:

Distance from Anchorage, Alaska to Moscow, Russia: 4,365 miles
Distance from Anchorage, Alaska to Washington, DC: 3,365 miles

I don't know much about Alaskans, but I do know they feel like Washington, DC is light years away (except when they get lots of money from Washington, maybe the federal money does come through a series of tubes). And if that is true, then Moscow is beyond light years away.

And despite the talking points about Russia, Gov. Sarah Palin has NEVER been to Russia. Unless, of course, like forgetting Mexico and Canada, she forgot Russia as well.

It's not so much that Palin hasn't done much traveling, well it is somewhat that. But it's the idea that the impact was so minimal that you can't remember your trips, or you exaggerate your "international presence." Just tell us the truth the first time. Yes, we will make fun of you, but it will only get worse if you aren't straight with us the first time.

So today's question is simple: please list all the countries you have been to. If that figure is only the U.S. and Canada, or U.S. and Mexico, it's OK. You aren't running for vice president. And if you aren't sure how many countries you have been to, be honest with us. It's OK.

I've been to

France, Italy, Ireland, Malta, Japan, Australia, Jamaica, Mexico, LIVED in Canada. Can I include Hawaii? Been there 3 times, and it is kinda 'foreign and exotic' so maybe it counts a little. Also to the airport in Germany! woo hoo! Slap a VP tiara on me.

I'll play, too. Canada,

I'll play, too. Canada, England, Scotland, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Czechoslovakia (back when it existed obviously), Hungary, Romania, Italy, Thailand, Okinawa, Japan, Bermuda, Jamaica, Hong Kong (well, not a country, but, still...), Senegal, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Chad, Ghana, Dahomey (now Benin), Togo, The Gambia. May have forgotten some after all. Have been to several of these more than one time, lived in one for five years, and spent several months in a couple of others. Have also visited most of the states, including Hawaii and Alaska, but some of those visits took place when I was very young. And, oh, yeah, I've been in the airports in Spain and Nigeria!

I'm fairly provincial, but...

...I've been to Canada---4 times---to work, not as Joe Tourist. I even have a Canadian Social Insurance Number. Try that, Ms. Know-nothing Evangelical crazy Palin.

Countries I have visited/ForeignLeaders I have met..

GoWestYoungMan..... Not only have I been to almost 2 dozen countries, but I once interviewed the Prime Minister of Sweden, met the Prime Minister's of Norway, Denmark and Iceland. And I met the King and Queen of Sweden, and the King and Queen of Norway...Those are my credentials to elect me the next Vice President. That's almost a fullhouse compared to her hand of...oh, I guess she has no cards to play, she just has been bluffing...She learned from the Bushes.

Countries I've visited without significant pauses

Japan, Dutch Indies (Aruba, Sint Maarten, Saba) France - St. Martin, England - some island north of Sint Maarten and Mexico. Oh well, I guess I must be somewhat qualified as a foreign affairs expert in Republican circles. I can also name most of the countries I haven't visited. The completeness of that list may be a better indicator of foreign policy knowledge as you have to know a country exists before you can have a policy for it.

How many countries I've visited

I've met my neighbors around the world in Canada, Liechtenstein, England, Scotland, Denmark, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic [when it was still Czechoslovakia].

Fellow Travelers...

Okay, here goes: Canada, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Jamaica, Ireland (weeklong visit, not a refueling stop), Wales, England, West Germany (pre-reunification), Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, France. Also been to St. Croix, which is a US territory, but you can almost see the British Virgin Islands from there, so does that count?

We're ALL more qualified!

After reading some of the other blog entries, it appears thatwere ALL more qulified in foreign affairs than Palin! Thus, I will add my "foreign/domestic travel" resume to the pot. The following are the countries/states that I have traveled to: France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Mexico, Canada (all over), Bahammas, Turks & Caicos, Ireland (and it wasn't for a stop over either!) and Venazuala (sp?). I have been to all the states except for Alaska and Hawaii - the majority of them more then once. Heck, since it's so easy to be nominated for VP, perhaps I should apply for the job as Sec of State!

I've been to ...

Non-US visits - Canada, England, Switzerland, Netherlands, France. US: All states except the following 7: Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Rhode Island. Hey, I'm OVER 50, and I didn't even have to think about it to answer!

Where I have been

The right-wing ditz, Rambo Palin, can't remember where she has been? Sounds a lot like Reagan. I have been to Germany, England, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Thailand, the Phillipines, Japan, and Luxembourg. I have been to 35 of our fifty states and to Guam. See Palin. That wasn't so hard.

places i have actually been to in my life time

Canada France Switzerland Austria Germany Holland Hungary Slovakia Czech Republic Singapore Philippines Malaysia Thailand Laos China Taiwan Hong Kong (before it switched back and after) Macao Japan South Korea US Virgin Islands (its further than Russia from Alaska so i feel i am allowed to put that down ... lol) British Virgin Islands Puerto Rico (same as US Virgin Islands) 40 of our 50 states ----- i got my first passport at the age of 16 and my social security card at the age of 7, i think these two things also say a lot about someone. ----- i see some folks have lsited the people they have met during their travels, here is my list. (i even cooked for all or most of them.): Al Jarreau Amy Grant Anne Murray Bill Blass Carlos Santana Chaka Khan Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young Dan Fogelberg Diane Von Furstenberg Don Henley Dustin Hoffman George Benson Heart Henry Kissinger (i admit it, not so proud of this entry actually) Hootie and the Blowfish James Cotton Jeffery Osborne Jimmy Buffet Kenny Loggins Livingston Taylor Madeline Kunin, Governor of the State of Vermont Manhattan Transfer Mayor Flynn of the City of Boston Melissa Manchester Michael Bolton Midnight Oil Mike Nichols Pat Metheney Peter Allen Peter, Paul and Mary Pointer Sisters Raquel Welch Richard Widmark Sonny Terry and Brownie Mac Gee Ted Kennedy, U.S. Senator from the State of Massachusetts The Boston Celtics NBA Basketball Team The Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand The Peruvian Ambassador to Thailand The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Thailand The U.S. Ambassador to Thailand The U.S. Olympic Freestyle Ski Team UB-40 Whitney Houston Willie Nelson >>>>>>> give peace a chance - question authority when it questions you >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> and almost forgot, add one more place to the states i have seen, Alaska, now how could i have forgotten that, i know, palin was not yet governor?

Not including fueling stops...

Canada, Mexico, Italy, Peru, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Costa Rica, the Bahamas.

countries visited

I have not been very far.Amsterdam Netherlands,Copenhagen Denmark,Bergin,Hambersanden,Kjevic,Norway,Canada,Jamaca. All over the U.S. and Canada.I would love to travel but it is now a luxury. peace

I'll throw my hat into the ring, if it's with a really old guy

Let's see.....Germany, France, Monaco, England, Holland, Austria, Italy, Luxembourg, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Mexico, Canada, Belize, US Virgin Islands (not a foreign country, I know, but hey--the Kuwait side of the Iraq border ain't Saddam country neither!), with layovers in Scotland, Japan and probably other places I can't recall. I have met with no foreign heads of state, but did meet a Miss USA once, shook Clinton's hand, saw Nixon's inaugural parade and helped decorate an aide to Senator Ron Wyden's house. (The aide's house, not the senator's.) Heavily into the oil markets--that is, olive and canola AT the market. Don't have the energy I used to, but am expert in what I have. I am ambitious, and that's why I'd like an old guy to run with. Being vice president is like a bucket of warm spit, I think someone said, and, as my resume here shows, I am ready for the big time. Elect me!!

Where I've been

Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Romania, Hungary, Portugal, Amsterdam, England, Viet Nam, Slovakia. I had a layover in Hong kong and Frankfurt. So can I list Germany and China? I actually FLEW over Siberia, so I can list Russia, too? I took a cruise to the Carribean and shopped on some of those islands, that would mean I've been to French places, too. I would be a really really good VP, Yup, Yup!

Travel

I've "Lived" in four countries: Thailand for three and a half years; Albania for a year as a Peace Corps Volunteer; Solomon Islands for two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer; two months in Bosnia as an election supervisor; and the United Kingdom for two months as a summer school student. In addition, I've visited Ireland, Cuba, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines (where I met Marcos), France, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Austria, Myanmar, China, Tibet (yes, I know officially part of China), Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and India. Still, I sure don't feel that I'd be a good vice president.

I'm not a big traveler but.....

I've been to England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Nicaragua, Luxembourg, Cuba and Canada(including Quebec). You mean I've been to more countries than the a possible vice-president of the USA? OMIGOD!

Bicycles across the World.

I've been to Europe 7 times. The countries include: England (3 times where I worked with curators of the British Royal Museum), Holland, Belgium, Luxumbourg, France, Germany,(post Glasnost East and West) Switzerland, Czech Republic, Italy. Set a 200 mile European record on my 1886 Highwheel bicycle in part of a Holland to Swizerland and back journey on my 1886 bicycle. Also with my group of highwheelers, got to meet several mayors and other city officials of the towns along the Rhine and the Mayor and city council of the city of Karlsruh as a Guest of Honor). The 200 mile record is the first in modern times (20th century and still stands). Also have been to Japan where I rode and raced my 1886 bicycle for one month with a group of highwheelers from other nations. Met the Mayor of Nagoya and Mr. Sugino, bicycle components manufacturer and city officials. Toured the Japan Bicycle Institute for bicycle design and safety. Participated in their Nagoya city Parade at their World Design Expo. Traveled to Australia where I toured Tasmania and set a 100 mile record on my 1886 highwheel, breaking the original record, also set in 1886, by 90 minutes. Became a national "hero" on the TV, news magazines and newspapers. The record still stands. Followed by a 545 mile tour on the highwheel. Been to New Zealand. Also been to Canada where I visited a fan friend and the Bahamas where I have a place where I spend springtime vacations. Lectured in Germany. Wrote a technical document being used in Turkey, China, S. Korea, Mexico, Canada, the U.S. and California. Traveled throughout 3/4ths of America. Work throughout California for CalEPA, as an engineer doing energy conversion from landfill gas and other "green" projects. Building an electric powered aircraft. Can I be V.P.??

The (then) Soviet Union

The (then) Soviet Union including Moscow, Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) and....Tbilisi Georgia! Also Finland, Estonia, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Czech Republic, India, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, The Sudan, and Indonesia. Singapore. I guess that's it. Oh yes, Canada and Mexico.

where i've been

Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Germany, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and Canada. Oh, and I had my first passport when I was 13 and I have a current passport. I also know what the Bush Doctrine is (even though I disagree with it).

My father's been to over 20 countries. He is not currently running on the basis of his foreign experience, although he certainly could.

The only differences between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin are judgement, experience, humilty, temperment, compassion, ability, education, skill, talent, oh, and lipstick.

Shawn Laasch

funsies...can I be VP now?

Obviously we progressive types are well traveled and not afraid of people who are different. I've been to Mexico (barely), Canada (a number of times--the western and central provinces, plus Nova Scotia), England (twice), Wales, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Jamaica, and Turks & Caicos. In the US I've been all over California (spent my life here), Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Montana, Wisconsin, Illinois, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. As you can see, I've managed to avoid most of the red states of the Midwest and South. ;) I suspect I'd find them more foreign than anywhere else I've been.

Just Visiting

Let's see… Mexico, Canada, Peru, Argentina, Columbia, Ireland, England, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, China, Japan, Indonesia, Bali and hmmm, Chile.

I'll Also Play

simply_put how wrong can you be. She just did not answer many of the questions put to her. I guess speaking politicaleese is how her language coach groomed her! As far as her foreign experience, you have to be kidding. Yes Alaska is close to Russia, but so what..... OK, over the last 45 years I've lived in Astralia for four years, Sweden for 14 months and France for 18 months as an academic scientist. Been to Mexico, Tahiti, New Caledonia, Fiji, New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, India, Nepal, Iran, Kuwait, Egypt, Turkey, Jordan, Israel, Germany, Norway, Russia, Finland, England, Belgium, Luxembourg, Andorra, and Spain. Wow, the world is an enlightening place! You can't understand your own place in it until you travel and experience the lives of others, and this is why Sara Palin is so myopic.

Foreign and Domestic Travel

Canada, South Korea, South Vietnam, Japan, and the Panama Canal Zone. See that wasn't hard.

States where I have stayed at least over night and eaten a meal: Washington, California, Texas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Maine, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania (home sweet home), Maryland, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. That was only slightly harder than counting the countries.

The majority of these states I visited or lived there as part of 16 years in the military. All the foreign countries, except Canada, were also "visited" during military service.

If I used Palin's criteria and counted states where I had plane changes or refueling stops I could add Alaska and Florida. Am I qualified to be President, or at least Vice-President?

John H

Oh yeah, I'll play...

Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Tahiti, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Belize. in fact, I actually *live* in Belize at the moment, been here for 3 years, 9 months. guess why I left?

I've been to London to visit the Queen..

and to the rest of England, Republic of Ireland (5x), Northern Ireland (1x), Switzerland, Canada (many times), and Mexico (2x). And 24 of the 50 states + District of Columbia. Not a world traveler, but I know where I've been. And I don't count where the plane landed to refuel, either.

Countries I have visited in no particular order

Canada, Mexico, Scotland, England, Greece, Morocco, France, Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Liechtenstein, Belgium, The Netherlands, San Marino, Monaco, The Vatican, Australia, New Zealand, China, Luxembourg, The Soviet Union, Venezuela, Aruba, The Virgin Islands, Grenada, The Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Panama, Colombia, Austria, and next week, Ireland. There might be a few more but I can't remember for sure and wanted to do the list without any outside my own brain assistance. As you can see my family and I have a severe case of wanderlust. Does this mean I get to be vice president?

Travel

Starting with the US - I have been in 47 states, missing only Alaska, Hawaii and Florida.
In chronological order, since I went to elementary school, I have lived in New York, Massachusetts, Michigan, Kansas, New Hampshire, California, Massachusetts, NY, Mass. In my adult life my parents lived for 10 years in Minnesota and 10 years in Ohio.
Other countries - I lived in Germany for about a year twice, 1955 when I was 12 and 1971. I was in the Peace Corps in Turkey - 1964-66. Travel - Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Germany (my brother has an apartment in Freiburg), Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Czechoslovakia (when it was one country), Yugoslavia, ditto including what are now Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, and Slovenia, Bulgaria. In Asia, besides Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Hong Kong, China - Chengdu and 4 weeks in Tibet. None of those are merely airport stops.

I speak Turkish and German pretty fluently, a little French and even less Italian.
(Based on my consultation with my own memory and my own mental map.)

After reading other posts - forgot to mention Canada, Greece, Lebanon, and Cyprus. None is just a pass through.

Countries I have been to

I have visted Mexico, Guatamala, Honduras, Belize, Nassau, St. Thomas, St. Croix, Torguga, Greece, Yugoslavia in 1972 when it was still called that, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, England, France, China and Thailand.

Countries visited

Ok, in this order: Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras. And while I find her to be an unqualified fool, I'll cut Sarah Palin a little slack. I never left the country until I was 40 years old. Of course, I'm not running for VP. goyitomke

Countries I've been to

Canada, England, Scotland, Australia, Bangkok, and Taiwan. Until 1997 I'd been too poor to go anywhere outside the continental U.S. I was born to bluecollar folks in southwestern PA--yes, I am an authentic hillbilly, fullfledged on my dad's side, one remove on my mother's--went to college on full scholarship, and struggled with make-ends-meet secretarial jobs as I wrote. It was only when my writing career REALLY took off that I could afford that first eventful trip to England in 1997, and most of those other trips I listed were paid for by my publishers or by groups of schools. If McCain and Palin have their way, a lot fewer poor kids from poor families will even be able to reach the point that I did, of getting jobs that paid well enough that I could afford to write in my spare time, and not have to take a second job to make ends meet. If McCain and Palin don't gut the college scholarship programs, or the public school and health programs that serve poor families like mine so their kids can get somewhere.

Travel is Valuable for Growth

I've been to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador and Galapagos, the US territory of Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Trinidad, Nevis, St. Marteen, St.Kitts, St Barts, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Anquilla, the remote Hawaiian islands(Midway, Kure, Laysan, French Frigate Shoals, Perle-Hermes),Australia (26 days on a motorcycle) Tahiti, Moorea, Tuamotus and the Marquesas Islands (cargo ship travel) Palau, Yap, Kosrae, Guam, Saipan, Rota, Ponhpei. I don't count stopovers. It is rewarding to reflect on travel experiences and the archaeological and cultural learning of them. Travel enriches one and results in better understanding of others as opposed to those who would live in a small geographic area as a basis for seeking national leadership.

I'll Play......

Mexico, Canada, England, Scotland, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France.

Listen to the question...

You seem to be so forgiving to Biden, but then again, I guess if he is a Democrat I guess that automatically exonorates him in your eyes doesn't it. On the other hand, Palin is a Repulican, and a conservative at that, so you seriously can't write anything nice about her, can you? I think are putting too much into this subject. Seriously, how many previous Vice President's have had the same foreign traveling experience. Many of them. As always, it isn't the quantity, but the quality of the experience. Look at the whole picture.

Charles Gibson, in particular, was trying to get her to trip over her words, and asked her the same question over and over again, because he wasn't getting to her. She was very deliberate in her responses, and answered his questions without using the key phrases that she knew would bite her in the ass. I.e. He kept asking her if we have the right to be making cross-border attacks into Pakistan from Afghanistan. She would not bite, however, even though she made it very clear that if there was a legitimate and enough intelligence to tell us that a strike was imminent against American people, that we have every right to defend our country. In fact, the president has the obligation, the duty to defend. However, she wouldn't use the term "right to attack Pakistan." He asked her two more times, hoping to get her to say it, so that the liberals could take that single phrase apart and say that she was a war mongering maniac like Bush.

I think many foreign relationships fail because communication breaks down when things are taken the wrong way. She, on the other hand, is so diplomatic, that I don't think she will be taken the wrong way in foreign relations. She is very clear about her convictions and doesn't play the "glossy" game without saying anything. (UNLIKE COURIC's INTERVIEW ON OBAMA: I learned that he quit smoking... Whooopee. THat's hardhitting news...) Palin just doesn't say things that will bite her in the ass. I wish Gibson would have the guts to be as threatening towards Obama and Biden. He did a great job trying to get as much out of the politician as possible. But, Palin stays true to her character and doesn't waver on her convictions.

Countries I've visited

I'll try this in chronological order, more or less. Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, England, France, Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia (before the split), Poland, West Germany (before reunification), Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Cambodia, saw Myanmar and Laos from the Mekong River but didn't touch the soil, Slovenia, Croatia, Ireland, Columbia, Ecuador, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico (though not a country, it feels like a foreign land). I wonder how many US states Gov. Palin has visited? This is my list of the states I HAVEN'T been to: Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Kentucky. Think that's it.

Pick a country

Hmmm, Mexico. Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Spain, Andorra, Vatican City, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, France, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Catalina Island. Oh wait the last one's part of California.

Me too!

Canada, Great Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Thailand, Nepal and India. Plus a whole bunch of islands of different nationalities in the Caribbean. Plus a bunch of refueling/ plane change spots. I've been to Alaska eight or nine times, but never made it to Wasilla. I have backpacked the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and a few other areas of north slope Alaska and I have seen the arctic as Sarah Palin's God created it, and before her buddies turn it into another stinking, oozing filthy Prudhoe Bay, which I have also seen.

What you can see of Russia from Alaska:

bobz has been...

to England, Scotland, France, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Canada; but not to either Alaska or Russia.

I have traveled a little

My family spent Christmas in central Mexico when I was a kid (11 trips) and I have been back once more in 2003 to Quintana Roo. When I graduated from the 6th grade in 1965 my father took me on a 2 month trip around the world with a group of dentists, starting in SF and ending in NY at the World' Fair. So, before my 12th birthday I had been to Japan, Thailand, India, Egypt, Jordan (it included the West Bank and Jerusalem), Lebanon (Beirut was beautiful and peaceful), Israel (it was much smaller then), Greece, Austria, Italy, Spain, Portugal and England. Oh, should I have included that foreign, exotic spot Hawaii? As an adult I have been to Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland), France, Germany, Liechtenstein (just a drive through), Austria, Monaco, Switzerland, Italy (and a tour of Sicily), Venezuela (spent 4 months in Anaco), and Brazil where I lived for a year and a half in 3 different cities (Bauru, SP; Catu, Bahia; Ipanema, RJ) and traveled extensively throughout the country from top to bottom. My dad took me on the 2 month trip because he felt is was very important for me to get a sense of the world that we live in. Thanks, dad!

yay countries

I've been to: Canada, Mexico, England, Ireland, Spain (lived there for a few months), France, Greece, Morocco and the Czech Republic. I've also had a passport for five years longer than Sarah Palin. Unfortunately, I am only 21 and not Constitutionally eligible to run for VP.

Live abroad - at least once

I have lived in Italy, German, England. Traveled to Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Honduras, long stays in France. A vacations in Monaco, Greece, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Vatican, Netherlands, the Hague (where Bushco. will hopefully be soon; I wonder if she even knows what the ICC is?).

I've never been to Alaska though.

I lived in Mexico for a short time and have visited the Bahamas, Canada, England, Ireland, France, Italy, Greece, Yugoslavia (in the 1980s when it still existed,) Austria, ,Germany- I hope I didn't leave anything out.

Been there, done that.

Let's see. Foreign countries I've been in: Canada, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, Alabama. :)

Countries visited:

Austria, Sweden, Canada, Israel, Mexico, Jamaica, Barbados, Italy, Poland. If they lower the bar any lower, only limbo dancers and contortionists will qualify for high government office. Arktikwolf Northampton, MA

places I've been

Canada, Mexico, Bali, France, England, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Italy, (Germany and Switzerland- passed through on a train which doesn't mean you know the country- sort of like a stop over in Ireland!) Think about how much broader Ms. Palin's view would be if she'd put those kids on a plane and seen the world!

traveling all over

OK, where to start... Alright... Of course US (including several of our Native American Reservations - do they count as foreign territories?, Hawaii - I count it as a foreign place - you have to fly there in order to get there! ;) ), Mexico, Canada, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, Indonesia, HongKong, Macau, China, Australia...

One drifter...off to see the world

There's such a lot of world to see.

Um, sorry. Ok.

Mexico (1965)
Canada (1984, 1990, 1991)
Holland (or Netherlands), Denmark (1995)
England, Wales, Scotland (1996)
Italy (1998)
Norway, Sweden, Finland (2004)

Countries I've been to

I am in a wheelchair which makes traveling to foreign countries difficult but I have had a passport since 1982 and have been to England - at least 15 times, France, and of course Canada and Mexico. I'm sure I'm qualified. I even shook former leader of the Labor Party Neil Kinnock's hand. I have also traveled across the U.S. And by the way, once my plane stopped in Seattle, so I guess that also counts!

Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck

I among them. I was in the Bahamas once, sent by my employer. Let's not make their "elitist" point for them; "Well Muffy, I saw a lot of 'brown' people there." Maybe if we really, really recovered our populism, the rest of the country would believe us about it. I guess there is always missionary work, but for the most part this group, in a blindingly outstanding display of not knowing where the progressive movement finds it's roots. don't really go for that shit.

(I am in a bad mood)
