Redupe, Reuse, and Recycle: McCain's New Attack Ad
BE ELECTED
by Meg White
I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about Sen. John McCain's dedication to environmentalism. But after seeing his new ad, "Family," I can't deny his commitment to recycling.
As I reported last week, there was a great deal of attention paid to McCain's controversial and negative campaign ad called "Celebrity." With all that free press coverage, I'm not surprised he tried to recreate last week's success with a similar ad released today.
Though he didn't recycle footage of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears (probably because Paris and her mom have slammed McCain for the ad), his new ad sticks with the Obama-as-out-of-touch-celebrity image. The announcer begins the ad, again layered over a crowd of supporters chanting "O-BA-MA," asking, "Is the biggest celebrity in the world ready to help your family?"
In addition to repeating themes, the campaign is also retelling lies. In the press release that accompanies the ad, McCain's campaign cites the same faulty logic proven incorrect by FactCheck.org last week. The campaign twisted the same Obama soundbite as they did last time in an effort to misleadingly "prove" the same point that they were trying at last week. While FactCheck.org didn't dispute Obama's celebrity status, those Annenberg guys just can't stomach McCain's lies about the Democratic presidential nominee's energy policy.
In fact, the whole celebrity ad reaction was overwhelmingly negative the first time McCain tried it, even among his former strategists and fellow Republicans. But maybe Sen. Joe Lieberman will step up to the plate again and tell us all to "relax and enjoy" the warmed up leftovers of last week's ad campaigns from the McCain camp.

Hit McCain on the Issues - Yes! Swiftboat Him Personally - NO!
By Swiftboating McCain like McCain's trying to Swiftboat him personally, Obama looks pissy and weak - the same way McCain looks when he's caught out on the lies in his attack ads.
It's a fine line, but I think Obama can stay on the correct side of it - as opposed to the Right Side McCain's stumbled over onto.... ;)
We can help there - we can push back against McCain's sliming if we've a mind to, and exposing who's giving him his money. For Heaven's Sake, Paris Hilton is pushing back on McCain - with surprising effectiveness, too!
Let your inner pugnacious self out!
And don't forget....
