Getting closer to Michelle Obama.

Fist Bump

Larry McShane at The NY Daily News approved of Michelle and Barack's Tuesday night gesture:

Barack Obama - continuing his campaign of politics as unusual - offered a hip alternative to scripted displays of affection by political couples by giving wife, Michelle, a hug, kiss - and quick fist bump.

It was short, but sweet.

"Fist bump of hope!" wrote one Internet poster about the couple's hand-to-hand show of solidarity.

Barack and Michelle Obama's 'fist bump of hope' shows them silly in love

And later that night, as we learn from The Minneapolis Post report, Michelle and Barack Obama met with Clinton supporters who bravely ventured into "enemy territory" for the historic moment:

Last night, after he had finished the sort of speech that leaves his followers exhilarated and exhausted, Obama did not just leave the arena. Nor did he head to the nearest television camera or the nearest fat cat.

Instead, he went to a room where the Clinton supporters had been gathered and one by one, shook the hands of the 25 people, stopping to chat with each of them. ...

And it didn't end with that. Michelle Obama arrived in the room of Clinton supporters some time after her husband had entered.

There was a little husband-and-wife moment.

"Where have you been?" he asked her.

"In a different room,'' she said. "I didn't know where you were.''

Then, they both went about the business of chatting with the Clinton supporters.

"She didn't have much time there because they had to get them out of the building," said [Jackie] Stevenson [DFL activist, a feminist and a Clinton-supporting superdelegate]. "I was standing by the door and as she was leaving, she put her hand out to mine and rubbed her cheek against mine. I've never met her.''

We'd like to know about other glimpses of Michelle Obama on the campaign trail. Don't let the attack dogs define her. Let's share our own stories.

BE ELECTED

I met Barack and Michelle in 2004

I met Barack Obama and his wife Michele, in Depue, Illinois in July of 2004. Barack was there to speak at the local VFW to people that had gathered there to see the young candidate just days after his electrifying keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention. As Barack signed a copy of his keynote speech that I had down loaded from the internet, I told him of the hope people saw in him but also warned him not to let all the attention give him "the big head." He looked up from the speech he was autographing, and pointed with the pen to his wife and said, "Michelle won't let that happen." mike kohr

Michelle, the Belle

I met her May 18 @ the huge rally in Portland, OR where we had a funny conversation about how I'd been for Barack for Pres before she was cool about it & she teased me about what I had done getting him to be the presumptive nominee almost.... I was working in the ADA section & Michelle was so kind & real taking a lot of time with everyone. Beautiful inside & out! jo beall
