Romney's Exit -- Who Does It Help?
BE ELECTED
Buried in a story on the Conservative Political Action Conference meeting today, where Bush touted his role as the conservative movement's standard-bearer on tax cuts, stem cells, war and national security, was an interesting opinion on the effect of Romney's suspension of his presidential campaign:
As for the race to succeed [Bush]: Mitt Romney is out - but the candidate who may gain the most from his exit isn't Mike Huckabee (the beneficiary of a sudden endorsement from a James Dobson) or even John McCain (whose path to the Republican nomination now seems secure). That distinction actually goes to Barack Obama, who no longer has to compete with McCain for independents in suddenly-competitive primary states like Virginia, Texas and Ohio, where independent voters are eligible to vote in upcoming Democratic contests. -- CNN Associate Political Editor Rebecca Sinderbrand

The Ron Paul Factor
While the two previous posters have a good point about Ron Paul's platform, some of which I am also in agreement, going from GWB to someone like Ron Paul will be a shock to the system like a hot tub to an icy lake. True, Obama and Hillary will present some more of the same policies such as in health care where insurance companies are still in control and denied claims will continue to be a problem, and the gluttonous defense contractors will still get their huge cut of the budget in Washington. But we remain hopeful for at least some changes in economic and foreign policy. And we can then push for campaign reform for public funding as they do in Europe. Only then, will we have a greater representation from all ends of the political spectrum, not just from those who have the money to buy the presidency.
Who does it benefit?
It is a strange world if Obama (who claims he is against the war) was competing with McCain (who wants the war to continue for a hundred years,) for the independents.I guess the independents have not yet decided on the war?You telling me those who vote for McCain will now vote for Obama? What strange bedfellows they are. It seems the one thing they have in common is their love for Joe Lieberman.
I think you should turn off your TV
STOP listening to ANYTHING from CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, or NBC news. They're just a bunch of corporate propaganda operatives executing the elitist effort to subjugate the American people.
Here's breaking news:
RON PAUL IS STILL IN THE RACE AND HAS 20 MILLION BUCKS IN THE BANK.
Why is he being completely ignored?
Not because he's crazy or makes no sense (in which case he would not have been elected to Congress 10 times), but because he represents the genuine change that scares people. They like the idea of real freedom that Paul represents, but they're too damn lazy to accept the personal responsibility that comes along with it.
So they say things like "Yeah, that's nice, but it will never work. He'll never get anything done. He doesn't have a chance."
Then, with their conscience sufficiently self-massaged, they go right back to rooting for the first female or first black president like they rooted for the New England Patriots to go undefeated.
Which is a major part of our country's problem. Too many treat the election of our government like a sporting event. They refuse to even consider differing views, the same way Red Sox fans refuse to even consider the Yankees. People will stick up for their team or their player no matter what, many times even knowing they're in the wrong. Same for politics and the election of our government.
THIS INSANE BEHAVIOR MUST STOP. We have to start somewhere in the effort to turn things around in this country. We can't just keep having the same old partisan arguments. That's exactly what the elitists want, because it means their divide and conquer strategy is working.
And they are damn close to writing the final chapter of our republic.
Some say Ron Paul and those who support him are naive. That's just another spineless cop-out for lemmings who prefer ignorant politics as usual. A better example of naivete would be anyone believing we'll get anything truly different from a Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama presidency.
"Freedom is not free" is not just sentiment for dead soldiers. It's a reminder that good citizenship is more important than good partisanship.
I thought long and hard before I decided to speak out in favor of Ron Paul. I don't by any means think he's perfect. I don't think he has every single answer. But I do believe strongly that he provides the best chance we have (by FAR) to get our country back.
We just need to wake the hell up and recognize it.

Ron Paul is right on one issue
While I disagree with Ron Paul on many issues he is at least right about getting out of Iraq. All of the surviving viable Democrats simply fudge the issue by announcing that they'll withdraw a few "combat troops" while allowing the illegal occupation to continue indefinitely. Unfortunately the only surviving viable Democrats are corporate-owned and for them war profits trump soldiers' lives every time.
It's interesting (and never covered by the MSM) that despite the Republican establishment's attempts to censor Ron Paul, our soldiers on the ground overwhelmingly support him, with Obama a distant second: http://thinkprogress.org/2008/02/05/military-donations/
