Has it occurred to anyone else that we just might never have another election?

Political appointees botch, bungle and butcher Iraq reconstruction and Katrina relief.

Political appointees are sent into the CIA executive suite for a political cleansing mission.

Political appointees set up a propaganda office in the DOD to deliberately and maliciously mislead the nation into war while refusing to plan for known obstacles ultimately leading to thousand of troop' deaths and injuries.

The hue and cry over Purgegate is that the Justice Department has traditionally been significantly and honorably immune to rank political interference. Not under our presently governing thugs.

Despoiling democracy and honor while emulating a Soviet/Communist Commissariat model government is the operational and ethical basis of Gonzalez and his handlers.

Good news. If politicizing the Justice Department finally brings out the backbones of our legislators, Republican and Democratic alike, shout hosannas. Citizens of the entire planet sincerely want the America that strives for honor, honesty and equal treatment under the law to reappear.

You will have to forgive my lack of tact and civility.

There are simply no words available that can adequately express my utter DISGUST...CONTEMPT...RAGE for the COWARDS who call themselves Democrats and what pathetically passes for leadership.

Time and time again you have had the opportunity to stand up to the tyranny of George W Bush and his Senate Thugs who crow throughout the senate like castrated roosters...yet still intimidate the Chicken Little democrats who at every confrontation - cower and walk away stating how valiantly they fought...and will do even better... the Next time.

America has seen more Democratic next times than they have turned corners of success in Bush's Baghdad!

Millions of Americans fought hard to vote in a Democratic majority - confident with a majority they would at least find enough collective courage to simply say NO! We spent more money and more time than we had to spend because we love our country and truly fear for its survival as a democracy rooted in the Rule of Law. Foolishly we assumed whomever we fought to elect would actually represent OUR expressed interests. But yet again you VOTED to make Bush's RULE become LAW!

There is little doubt the List of Cowards will soon be published on the net. Those who are up for re-election will...and Should - be targeted for replacement. Failing any viable primary challenge, hopefully America will turn to credible Green Party or other third party candidates who can at minimum present an image of Integrity!

I would highly recommend the Senate spend their recess time "In Search Of"... COURAGE!

I would further suggest when the caucus returns in September you hire an Assertiveness Training consultant. Failing that, consider contracting a team of Orthopedic Surgeons to implant Senate Spines.

How I wish there was some positive way to conclude this message. I am sorry...there simply is not. We in the homes of America will continue to fight for what we cherish...because we have no choice! Perhaps if you look real hard, you can find some easy way to support SEVENTY+ PERCENT of the American People!

By way of a personal note, I turned on my computer today to shop for belated birthday gifts for my grandchildren who will be able to visit for one day this month while my son is on a short leave from his naval assignment in Italy. Both he and his wife served three tours each of the Persian Gulf prior to the attack on Iraq. You remember that - the second time the Senate Democrats caved to Bush intimidation...

But then I saw the headines that Senate Democrats again threw in the towel on FISA...THE 4th Amendment...the Constitution. NOTHING is more important to me than my family. Like most American parents since 1776, I had little to pass on to my heirs beyond a glorious America that was just a little bit better...a bit more noble...more just. For the first time in history that is no longer possible. They are forced to live in a nation that surrendered the right of Habeas Corpus... foolishly thinking that made them more secure. They live in a nation that has now institutionalized "cruel and unusual punishment" in the form of torture as acceptable. My grandchildrens' most private communications and records are now the province of an unseen unknown government. Their friends, neighbors, relatives - even ol' Gramps - can be whisked off in the dark of night without cause...without charge...without counsel...without trial...without a single Human Right. Those whom my grandchildren depended on in turn placed their good faith and trust in representatives who swore an oath to preserve and protect those rights. And Every time those rights were challenged.. the Defenders turned their backs! In so doing they enabled an illegal, immoral war... financed entirely on foreign credit and tax Gifts for the wealthiest in the Land. They allowed the national economy to be hollowed out to a point where it is totally sustained on credit and debt - devoid of the capacity to produce...anything of substance. Without intervention, they are condemned to economic surfdom...and targets of world hatred for decades to come.

So Senator...I will shop hopefully later. I have only words to leave behind...with stories and government reports that add context to those words. They will know at least someone tried. And if the words remain for their grandchildren, they will learn in history of the abysmal era of G W Bush and his disastrous legacy and wonder what manner of men...seeing all this unfold before their eyes, and hearing millions of Gramps and Grannies, and the very government itself cry out for help, could simply refuse to stand.

That Senator Reid will become the legacy of the current Democratic Congress, every bit as complicit...inept...and treasoness as Bush. There is yet time to change.

I am not only upset that the democrates caved in to the spying ammendment but also that they are going on a month long vacation when there is so much to be done. Scooter got his get out of jail free card during their last break. (Sure seems like they get alot of breaks) Ms. Meijers and Mr Rove refuse to even show up when seaponaed to congress and instead of doing something they go on vacation. It is 117 degrees in Iraq and the people have no water and they go on vacation. They promise one thing and then go on vacation. I don't want to be safe, I want liberty. As Patrick Henry once stated "Give me liberty or give me death. We might as well go to the polls and just vote republican, because they are going to steal the election any how. And the democrates have people running that can't possibly win. This is a nightmare.

You forgot the assault on the media. Since the courts have just ruled that FOX News can report "news" that is actually slanted and misleading - yes they've been doing that all along but now the courts are supporting them - they have taken another huge step in putting what they need into place in order to remake America in their own vision. The Founding Fathers knew that for democracy to succeed it required an informed public engaging in rational debate. We know what kind of information is being fed to the public via the media and we know that rational debate doesn’t exist. I haven't figured out what is up with the Democrats but it's obvious they aren't doing what we sent them there to do. It's going to be - and really always has been - up to the people to put a stop to the destruction of our democracy.

The Pretender-in-Chief first authorized his illegal warrantless wiretapping program six years ago, ostensibly to track the communications of terrorists.

Here we are in the summer of 2007, with the Bushies claiming that Al Qaeda has reconstituted their strength to pre-9/11 levels, and that we are at risk of another major terrorist attack here at home, even though "We're fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here."

Who have they really been listening to for six years?

In the days immediately following 9/11, George said he wanted bin Laden "dead or alive," then six months later said he was not concerned about him. Said bin Laden had been
"marginalized." Then last year, the CIA shut down the unit that was supposed to be dedicated to finding Osama.

Now we're hearing that Osama's organization is back in top shape, mounting a comeback tour and we should all be very, very scared.

Six years after the fact, there is still no justice for the victims of 9/11 and their families. The guy who supposedly leads the group that supposedly attacked us on 9/11 (Osama) is still free, and the supposed mastermind of the 9/11 attacks (Khalid Sheikh Mohammed) is suppsedly in custody and has supposedly confessed to planning the whole thing, but has yet to face justice.

Where is the justification from the Bush administration that they have done such a good job "fighting terror" to this point that they deserve more power to do so at the expense of our constitutional freedoms?

Why is it that almost nobody inside the Beltway who paints themselves publicly as opposing Bush and his policies is asking these questions?

Because they're willing enablers of the most corrupt presidential administration in the history of our country, blinded by their lust for the bogus power they are allowing him to create.

The blatantly obvious failure Bush's "war on terror" proves that it's a monumental, unprecedented lie.

I have been sickened by the caving of the Dems, even though not all of them did, since reading the news Saturday morning. How could they be so dumb?!

One thing about Bush is that his intentions are always transparent if you know what to look for. How many years ago did Bush say that his job would be so much easier if he could be a dictator? There it was - in plain sight!

Then, this summer, he has Chertoff trot out with his "gut feeling" about another terrorist attack. In quick succession, we get the new anti-FISA demand. Gee, do you think the Dems fell for that? Can't you just see their beebee brains calculating, "Wow, if there's going to be another terrorist attack, we'd better not look like we denied Bush the tools to prevent it (never mind about that Constitution we swore to uphold)." How damned gullible can you get?

You know, all of this attention to the Dem presidential candidates is a pleasant distraction, but rests upon a very questionable assumption - that there'll be an election in 2008. My doubts about that are getting stronger every day. Bush/Cheney will manufacture another terrorist action, martial law will be declared, Congress will be told to run along home to "put some love" on their consitituents, and there'll be no election, of course.

The Democrats are failing to protect us from the war on Democracy Bush/Cheney are winning. Like many of the other commenters, I'm through with them.

This legislation was never designed to protect "the Homeland," a word dripping with authoritarian irony, from foreign terrorists. No. Terrorists are too cunning, too paranoid. They operate under the constant suspicion that their telephones are already tapped, cellphones monitored. They write old-fashioned letters (snail-mail) to one another or meet face-to-face.

This bill is intended to spy on American citizens and protect the administration and its corporate backers. Period. Nor would it make any difference if we had a Democratic administration. Protecting the corporate bosses, trust-fund babies and Rupert Murdoch is paramount for both parties at this stage in our history. Democracy, with a small d, is dead, the republic is on life support.

I'm angrier at the democrats for not standing up to them. That's why they got back control of congress. To stand up to Bush. I call the majority of politicians republicrats.

It is unbelievable that the Democrats in the House and Senate are such wimps. The Democratic majority in the House is letting America down. I worked very hard in the '06 elections for Moveon.org and now I ask myself for what???!!! As one talkshow host that I listen to put it, we really have one party and that is the Washington Party!! Given what is going on, I ask myself what the hell is the difference who is elected president or what party controls Congress? A very sad commentary on the U.S. Congress and it is making me inclined to sit out the '08 elections.

This seems to be yet more evidence that the two parties (and we only have two viable parties) have converged to a large degree. One could even say there is party collusion; in effect a one-party state. Elections function to placate the masses into making them think they have a choice. What's it going to take to let the elite know we are not happy? Civil disobedience?

Joe Lieberman is definitely a turncoat, a nefarious neo-con Republican enabler, who supports the dissolution of our democracy and the establishment of a permanent one-party Republican rule.

The other Democrats like Lieberman are the so-called Blue Dog Democrats, hand-picked by the Democratic Leadership Council, which itself is packed with right-wing-leaning conservative Republican-like plants.

I consider this the fourth prong of the devious Republican plot to supplant our democracy and replace it with a fascist-like system that they plan on controlling forever.

The Republicans in the Bush administration are like Nixon on steroids, in regards to their obvious criminal behaviour and cover-ups. After Watergate, Republicans hatched a plan to not only build up the Republican Party, but also to tear down the Democratic Party. And the DLC-picked DINO Blue Dog Democrats are the result, a group of pseudo-Democrats who consistently vote for corrupt and anti-American Republican policies while slamming progressive, liberal policies.

Thus, a whole lot of Republicans, plus a bunch of DLC DINO Blue Dog Democrats must bite the electoral dust in the next election if our nation is to be saved from anymore of these people's nefarious Nazi-like, Communist-like, Franco-like power-mad schemes.

And I do not identify with them anymore! Throw them ALL out, and start from the beginning!

Who voted for this? Please name them so we can let them know just what we think. Will it do any good? I don't know. Maybe if they hear from enough voters? And if not, at least history will know who is responsible.

How many more insults to our hopes and dreams are we willing to suffer at the hands of Pelosi, et al, before we realize we should have been pushing third party candidates for the past 8 years? Think of how much further along we'd be if we'd allowed candidates like Nader to push the mainstream Dems in our direction, instead of banning them from the election process abd hoping against hope that somehow the DLC would finally come around to our way of thinking...
