On Friday, September 29, It's Mourning in America
A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL
Just as it is hard to fully comprehend the grief of a beloved friend or relative killed needlessly in an accident, it is excruciatingly painful to try to come to terms with the pernicious betrayal of our Constitution and liberty that occurred in the Senate on Thursday, September 28.
In the past week alone, we have seen factual evidence that belies the need for the power play/pre-election attack on our Constitution. In fact, these developments indicate that giving Bush even more unprecedented power is not only unconscionable; it puts the national security of the United States of America in peril:
Bush’s newly "revamped" top 16 intelligence agencies reached the conclusion that the Iraq War had become a primary cause in the growth of terrorists and the increased threat of terrorism to the United States. Bush called the report of his own top intelligent agencies "naïve." Meanwhile, a second U.N. report came to the same conclusion as the American spy agencies. The U.N. also reported that more Iraqis may now be being tortured under U.S. occupation than were tortured under Saddam Hussein.
And there is a second National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) report just on Iraq that the Bush Administration will not release until after the election. So it clearly must be even more harsh in its assessment of the Iraq War than the White House "selective conclusions" Executive Summary of the first NIE, which was revealed by the New York Times.
On September 25, retired American generals provided testimony that Donald Rumsfeld and the Bush Administration threatened to fire any member of the Pentagon brass that provided a plan for keeping the peace in Iraq after the invasion. They testified that Rumsfeld, who has no combat experience, has made peremptory, uninformed and arrogant decisions that have resulted in the needless deaths of American Gis and Iraqis.
Bob Woodward, for many years the loyal Royal Court reporter of the Bush Administration, now has been stricken with a case of reality. In his latest book, he apparently reports, according to "60 Minutes," "that the Bush administration has not told the truth regarding the level of violence, especially against U.S. troops, in Iraq. He also reveals key intelligence that predicts the insurgency will grow worse next year."
According to Woodward, insurgent attacks against coalition troops occur, on average, every 15 minutes, a shocking fact the administration has kept secret. "It’s getting to the point now where there are eight-, nine-hundred attacks a week. That's more than 100 a day. That is four an hour attacking our forces," says Woodward.
The situation is getting much worse, says Woodward, despite what the White House and the Pentagon are saying in public. "The truth is that the assessment by intelligence experts is that next year, 2007, is going to get worse and, in public, you have the president and you have the Pentagon [saying], 'Oh, no, things are going to get better,'" he tells Wallace. "Now there’s public, and then there’s private. But what did they do with the private? They stamp it secret. No one is supposed to know," says Woodward.
"The insurgents know what they are doing. They know the level of violence and how effective they are. Who doesn't know? The American public," Woodward tells Wallace.
Woodward’s view is confirmed by the National Intelligence Estimate and a report that this summer set a record for Iraqi civilian deaths in recent years.
What’s more, a poll in Iraq reported in the Washington Post indicates 60% of Iraqis support attacks on American GIs. We repeat, while Bush is saying we are fighting the terrorists in Iraq, the overwhelming majority of Iraqis believe killing American soldiers is justifiable! The population we are supposedly liberating and bestowing democracy on in Iraq supports the deadly assaults on our military.
For 59% of Americans, Iraq is already in a civil war. And the "confidence in Iraq policies" dropped to 20% in the U.S.And, according to the Washington Post, "A strong majority of Iraqis want U.S.-led military forces to immediately withdraw from the country, saying their swift departure would make Iraq more secure and decrease sectarian violence, according to new polls by the State Department and independent researchers."
In addition, "Almost four in five Iraqis say the U.S. military force in Iraq provokes more violence than it prevents."
Meanwhile, the Bush vaunted efforts to train the Iraqi police and army are being proven a sham. An Iraqi police academy that was built as a war profiteering gift to some American firm is a total failure, symbolic of the Bush Administration’s fiasco in Iraq:"A $75 million project to build the largest police academy in Iraq has been so grossly mismanaged that the campus now poses health risks to recruits and might need to be partially demolished, U.S. investigators have found. The Baghdad Police College, hailed as crucial to U.S. efforts to prepare Iraqis to take control of the country's security, was so poorly constructed that feces and urine rained from the ceilings in student barracks. Floors heaved inches off the ground and cracked apart. Water dripped so profusely in one room that it was dubbed ‘the rain forest.’"
We are losing the war in Afghanistan to a resurgent Taliban, who is being given safe harbor by our "major ally," Pakistan. And the leaders of Afghanistan and Pakistan aren’t even cooperating with each other.
We could go on and on. This is just the tip of the iceberg – all from just the last week.
So how do the White House and the Congressional Republicans respond?
They give the man responsible for this tremendous loss of life, for wasted expenditures of hundreds of billions of dollars, for lies upon lies, for fighting an ineffective battle against terrorism that has resulted in an increase in terrorists and a rise in the terrorist threat to America…They respond by giving this man the right to suspend habeas corpus, declare who is an enemy combatant, and the right to torture at will -- and they absolve him of the crimes in violation of American law, the Constitution and the Geneva Convention that he has committed up to now.
The man who has endangered America, according to his own restructured intelligence agencies and the facts reported in just one week, is allowed to destroy our Constitution and decide, on his own, who will be tortured.
This isn’t just a Rubicon that has been crossed that may mean the death of the American Republic, as we know it. This isn’t just our Reichstag fire.
This is a suicidal act in terms of our national security. It is giving unConstitutional and barbaric powers to a man who has miserably and persistently failed us and lied to this nation at every turn – as borne out by the facts. It is a thuggish game of forcing an alternative reality upon America, a noxious, deadly one.
Today, tears would flow down the olive robe of the Statue of Liberty if she were human.
But she is just an inanimate symbol. We are the ones who have to cope with the pain of a democracy destroyed in a political play for power and permanent one-party rule, which is not a Constitutional form of government. That is called a dictatorship.
And the one thing in common with dictators through history, whether Communist or fascist, is their state-sanctioned ability to torture people at will.
Beyond the overwhelming facts this week that Bush has endangered the national security of the United States of America with his failed and costly fanatic ignorance, we are left with this sad fact.
With the law passed on September 28th by Congress, we have become the Republic of torture. We not only have lost our claim to be a civilizing force among nations and abandoned our Constitution, we have appeased the terrorists by doing so.
Because isn’t it Bush who keeps telling us that the "terrorists hate us for our freedoms"? So, to appease those same enemies of America, the White House and the Republicans have abandoned civilized standards of behavior and taken freedoms away.
We are only beginning to grieve for the great beacon of democracy and justice that we lost yesterday.

If Not The November Elections, What
Especially if one considers that, on account of the Iraq war together with global warming, we lose this election and that'll be it for freedom and democracy in America, except for what one accrues from buying and selling, shopping at the mall plus whatever one's leisure time pursuits. Which might not be a bad deal except for the fact that, on account of the Iraq war and global warming, staying the course leads to the extinction of Homo sapiens, not in thousands and thousands of years, but within the lifetime of a child born today.

Grieving For What We Lost Yesterday
Which is to say that the November election actually may be our do or die event, since we win, we change the world, we lose, there is no world.

WHat is hurting me the most is that my democratic senater again voted with king george. I can't morally vote for her. She voted for everything that I as an American stand against. THis isn't the first time she has stood with king george. I also can't vote for a republican. I am so very disappointed in her. I don't know what I am going to do. WIsh we had more to pick from then bad or bader.
Bush's demise is right under your noses
You who complain about the newly created Presidential powers ignore the means by which these powers were all enabled. You ignore the fact that the media and government are being controlled by groups such as the Project for the New American century(PNAC) who, with Cheney and Rumsfeld as founding members, along with Wolfowitz, Perle, Kristol, Wurmser, etc., have steered this president and his foreign policy in one direction and one direction only. The catalyst to these incredible and unconstitutional powers was in fact 9-11!
You have all swallowed hook, line and sinker, the governments fabrication on the events of 9-11 and have unquestioningly accepted it as fact, when in reality the governments ever changing story of those events is nothing more than hyposthesis, theory and conjecture, with the voice of the controlled mainstream media to advance its erroneous claims.
The Bush government has lied to you about everything, and repeatedly since 9-11. They have changed their story to fit the criteria. Why would you even begin to think that after a two year stonewalling to create a 9-11 commission to "investigate" 9-11, and the unsubstantiated theories that you have been given that their story is at all true?
Those that benefitted most from 9-11 were not the alleged 19 hijackers! They were not bin Laden and the famed (since Bush came to power) al Qaeda, but were instead those that run the PNAC and the Zionists that control the Bush government.
9-11 is what was responsible for allowing this mess to be created, and 9-11 could be the undoing if you people would wake up to the fact that the solution rests in "who gained?"
Clearly the Bush Administration gained by all of this, as did the Zionists that run it. This has also steered our foreign policy to aide the state of Israel, which a war in Iraq has clearly done, as well as will the coming war in Iran.
Before you call me an anti-Semite, please be informed, one does NOT have to be Jewish to be a Zionist. However, look up "Jewish people on Bush Administration." Then look up Palestinians, Lebanese, or Germans on the Bush administration, and see what comes up.You may be surprised.

I some times feel like we are living in the twilight zone. KIng george admits to torture, secret prisons and that Iraq had no connections to 911 and his poll numbers go up 5%. George was on vacation all the month of AUgust and failed to protect us. He went into hiding after setting there for 20 minutes doing nothing and he becomes a hero because he shots of his mouth a few days later. I am so sick of hearing about 911. Not that I don't feel bad about the victims but we are all the victims because this is no longer America.

One thing everyone, including the centrists, should be sure of now and that is the disguise is off the spread of democracy. At least we don't have to listen to their unbearable excuses anymore.
But we should look at the strength of what has been lost and ask how it all could be so easily undone? For example, truth needs no justification. If all we have lost needs to be justified, how can simple twists on the language of existing systems come crashing down? Not because it is traditional and not because it appeared to work. If it was perfect, we would never have been in a state that allowed manipulation.
We've been set back, that is unquestionable, but the direction we were headed was up for grabs. If it wasn't the Bu-ad it would have been somebody else.
Bush and his supporters are TRAITORS to America
What stuns me is that for over 200 years, America has been known as the beacon and preeminent protector of liberty and democracy. I remember fondly both JFK's and Ronald Reagan's efforts to expose the Soviet Union as the quintessential enemy of freedom, justice and individual liberty. For the duration of the "Cold War", America's argument to the world, and its domestic audience, was that America represents an indomitable force for freedom and democracy while the Soviets, on the other hand, push to coerce, smother and suffocate those who cherish freedom and liberty. And in just six short years, Bush and his group of traitors have opted to push for that which historically we regarded as inherently alien and destructive to our core set of values. They have relentlessly pursued changes that reflect what amounts to a more Soviet style of government, characterized by a greater centralization of power in the Executive branch, all under the guise of prosecuting a war on terror. Our system of checks and balances which have served us so well throughout our history has been completely turned on its head. And what is also so deeply troubling and very disturbing to me is the conspicuous and notable lack of outrage voiced by our elected officials -- and the media in general -- over these very serious violations of our constitutional and foundational principles. Didn't each and every one of our elected officials take a solemn oath to "protect, defend and preserve" the Consitution of the United States of America? Do they not understand what they have done and the damage that they have caused?! What about that solemn oath do they not understand?! Do those who have acquiesced understand that they have served the purposes of those who would rather see our country under some sort of elitist, totalitarian rule for the indefinite future, stripping us of our essential freedoms as if ripping from us the very DNA that once defined us as "Americans"? I at least would have liked to have seen more of our so-called Democratic leaders and representatives SCREAM their outrage over the tactics, philosophy and direction of this illicit administration and their toxic policies that now threaten to userp, control and alter the very nature and essence of American life, a life that we've fostered and cherished since our country's founding...And to those of you who argue that the loss of freedoms is a necessary evil in the battle against terrorism, with the recent vote by Congress to remove habeas corpus from our system of justice, YOU and ANYONE can be designated a terrorist by some despicable bureaucrat or politician who could care less about you and your family. (Do any of you remember Nixon's "political enemies list"?) And without the protections offered by habeas corpus, you can kiss your life, security and freedom that you've come to take for granted, goodbye.
God help us!
When will the military balk?
The coup is nearly complete. The electoral process has been electronically hacked and voting is now completely meaningless. The Democrats are compromised because they have to beg for money from the same corporate deep pockets as Republicans just to stay in the game and keep the charade going. Plus, they're scared they might encounter a Paul Wellstone-style plane crash. The Supreme Court is compromised, and anyways, the administration just rewrites the law after the fact. The only thing standing between the Bush junta and the Soviet style dictatorship they covet is the military. It has been amazing to watch the armed forces and the intelligence community, not your usual bastions of liberalism, butting heads with the White House. If Bush decides not to leave office, will the military balk? Or will it be Jeb in 2008?

The scalar weapon technology invented by Nikola Tesla was confiscated by the FBI when he died in 1943 and was given to the Soviets in 1984 by Aldrich Ames. These weapons were used by the CIA to implode the Twin Towers on 9/11 (so that Bushitler would have a pretext for invading Iraq), by the Russians to intensify and steer Hurricane Ivan in 2004 (a near miss) and Hurricane Katrina (a direct hit) in 2005 (note that both storms were cynically given Russian names), and more recently used by Halliburton to cause the Sumatran earthquake (and tsunami) in 2004 and the Pakistani earthquake in 2005.
The unintended consequence of abusing this terribly awesome scalar technology is being manifested not only in the changes in the interior of the earth, but is also responsible for the increased solar activity as well as what is happening to the other planets. Are you naive enough to believe that it's 'just a coincidence' that all these changes are happening to our solar system just when scalar weapons are being used on a massive scale for the first time?

Until politicians are for ethical/honest elections, which have not happened for years, this country is lost.
I will continue to write letters to the editor, write my 3 republican representatives, my state representatives. However, when I am represented by republicans, in a state where the votes were fixed in 2000, 2002, 2004, the primary of 2006, then, what is one left to do.
The DLC is way to the center and run by corporations.
One can only hope that the republicans are unable to fix the votes come November, otherwise, welcome to Amerika.

Kudos to you Wesley. Those idiots dems and libs think that they can do better. Look at the Europeans trying to talk and negotiate and still got bombed. Not only that but the Europeans are also passing laws left and right to curb terrorism. I hope that the dems take over in 2008 and we'll see if the terrorism goes down, we'll see if they repeal the Patriot Act, we'll see if they close Gitmo, we'll see if they're going to get a warrant before listening in. Bill Clinton tried to use a "Law Enforcement" strategy and we know how very well how that worked. Because of slick willy we have terrorism. I do hope that you realize that when we take away freedoms from one person we will loose some of our own.
I won't take it to the street because I don't think that overthrow is the answer but I do call my congress people on a regular basis and sign petitions. If we don't tell these people how we feel we will get no where.
YOu people that think that because inocent people were killed we have a right to kill inocent people make my sick. Pay backs are not the answer it only makes people more likely to pay back.

1. close our borders and deal with aliens that have been permitted inside our nation;
2. remove our soldiers from Iraq and our Marines from prison held because the enemy says so;
3. begin the process of placing tariffs on imports so our manufacturing industries can begin rebuilding so our nation resumes it's ability to become an industrial superpower.
