By all accounts, Joe Lieberman is a smart guy. He got into Yale on his merits at a time when there was a Jewish quota. He wasn't a prep school guy or the son of an alumnus. He just had a good brain and worked hard. He earned his admission to one of the nation's most elite schools, unlike George W. Bush who got in based on affirmative action for mediocre WASP preppies whose fathers went to Yale.

But it was such a waste for Joe. He ended up in the same place as Bush, in fact as a Bush cheerleader for an unnecessary war, launched on the basis of lies, and continuing endlessly with no purpose or mission except to salvage the reputations of the individuals who so wrongfully have been its cheerleaders.

Joe Lieberman earned that famous kiss on the cheek from Bush, because he was the go-to Democrat whenever Bush and Cheney needed to quote someone from the opposition who enthusiastically supported the war.

In fact, Lieberman was so in the bag on the Iraq war that the Republicans chose him, a Democrat, to be the first senator to speak on behalf of the Republican side when the Democrats finally got some spine and floated two resolutions to withdraw troops from Iraq. That means Joe led the opposition to his own party on the "out of the" Iraq War resolutions.

On more than one occasion, Lieberman has even parroted the Bushevik "Orwellian" threat that to criticize Bush's handling of Iraq in a time of war is undercutting the commander-in-chief. Lieberman was, in essence, accusing war dissenters of aiding "the enemy," whomever that might be at this point. (Since it is a civil war in Iraq now, our soldiers are sitting ducks caught in the crossfire of two enemies -- of each other, the Shiites and the Sunnis. The war long ago stopped having even the semblance of a mission or meaning for the United States.)

In one of those consultant driven campaign pushes, on Sunday Lieberman removed any shred of dignity and honesty that he always claims with such piousness. He basically lied and said he always has been critical of Bush's conduct of the war, he said that he always welcomed dissent on the war, and he said that he was not an "enabler" of Bush.

The poster senator for the DLC, Lieberman went on to laughingly accuse Ned Lamont of being a center-rightist.

Lieberman's Sunday "conversion" was a preposterous effort to lie his way back into the Senate, even while still refusing to rule out running as an Independent as he declared himself a loyal Democrat. It was so riddled with hypocrisy, mistruths and Joementum self-pity that it will never allow you to trust a person who wears their "piety" on their sleeve again.

The greatest irony of the Lamont-Lieberman race to us is this one: Lieberman is more popular with Republicans than with Democrats. The White House is not so subtly rooting for Joe in Connecticut, and it shows.

Meanwhile in Florida, the Republican Party is trying to get Katherine Harris -- who kept Gore and Lieberman from assuming office as President and Vice President -- off the ticket in her run for senator!

So, the guy whose position Cheney stole is a Bush favorite, but the woman who made sure Cheney and Bush succeeded in their theft of the White House is getting the heave-ho from her senate race.

Ironies abound.

But Tuesday is primary day in Connecticut.

BuzzFlash breaks with its general tradition of not getting involved in primaries and wholeheartedly endorses Ned Lamont.

He's a breath of passion, fresh air, and sanity for the Democratic Party and for America.

Lieberman is just another hypocritical Demo- Republican in awe of a simpleton, George W. Bush.

If you live in Connecticut, help put a stop to the ruinous "Joementum." Vote for Ned Lamont.

As for Lieberman, a mind is such a beautiful thing to waste, but Joe managed to do it.

As the New York Times reports:

“Joseph had faith that God will take care of the haters and I have a certain faith that this Tuesday God will take care of the voters.”

Yes, that' s right. God is on Joe Lieberman's side and will surely deliver the votes in the primary. So if you're planning to vote for Ned Lamont, be advised that you are falling for one of the Devil's many tricks.

Why This Election Matters SO SO MUCH

Very few people realize the magnitude of what a Lamont victory tomorrow and in November means. And the supporters of Lamont in Connecticut should be so proud of themselves. EVERYONE of you MUST vote. The Right wing republicans own the media. The right wing media hires the pundits. Many of the pundits they hire are Democratic foils designed to enable Republican talking points. Yes, these foils (Peter Hart, Al Frum, Peter Beinart, Bob Schrum, Donna Brazille, Alan Colmes, Lanny Davis, etc...) are being paid six digit salaries to destroy Democrats all while pretending to be Democrats. As part of the Republican media script, extremists like Joe Lieberman are to be portrayed as centrist or moderate while a mainstream politician like Ned Lamont gets mislabelled as far left. These labels are not accidents. They are designed to make Republican extremism seem mainstream while marginalizing people like Ned Lamont who actually represent the views and values of most voters. A Lamont win threatens the paychecks and very existence of the foils I mentioned above. A Lamont win threatens the media infrastructure and properly defines what the center really is. A Lamont win also sends a message to the paid hacks of the Democratic Party and its politicians that it is the voters who decide who serves them not party hacks designating for voters who should serve in their place. That is why the entire Democratic establishment has tried desperately to rehabilitate Joe Lieberman, even politicans who have little in common with the Joe Lie of 2006. These politicians (including a few Democratic liberals) are seeing voters in Connecticut say to them, "If you want to go to Washington + sell out your constituents just so you can enrich your family's pockets by cooperating with rich corporations, then you too can be defeated in a primary by someone who won't sell out." So in the end a Lamont win makes politicians more accountable again, properly defines the center, rids the Democratic Party of the biggest right wing enabler, allows Democratic voters to take back the party from paid foils and professional hacks, and restores the faith of voters across America that govt can change if people have the will to do it. Neither the Republicans nor the professional Democratic hacks want to see any of the above happen. That is why they defend Joe Lieberman. And that is why the voters of Connecticut may be the new Paul Reveres.

I'll have additional comments shortly but for those in the media who think this is only about Iraq, look at this list that I have composed on the subject. Lies, Hypocrisies And Extremism of Joe Lieberman 1. Sends Liebergoons to harass Ned Lamont’s family, then denies it, then said they were well behaved. 2. Called a solo fifth place finish in the NH primary a 3 way photo finish for 3rd with Joementum. 3. Willing to make SS “voluntary” (destroy it) then says he was the first person against it. 4. Believed the federal govt should interfere with the Schiavo matter then says politicians should not get involved. 5. Opposes emergency contraceptives for rape victims, callously says “go to another hospital.” 6. 93% of Americans favor strong environmental protections in trade agreements, Joe Lieberman disagrees. 7. 90% of Americans support strong labor protections in trade agreements but not Joe Lieberman. 8. Supports raising Social Security age, then says he’s against it, then for it, then against it. 9. Lies - says Lamont is a one issue candidate when Lamont’s ads + website detail positions on dozens of issues. 10. Claims Ned Lamont is far left one day, a 80% of the time Republican the next day, and just like Joe another day except for 1 issue. (Iraq). 11. Would support the Democratic primary winner, won’t support Democratic primary winner. 12. Writes Wall Street Journal editorial glowing how wonderful Iraq is going then claims he has been a critic of the post war planning in Iraq. 13. Supported middle class tax increases while simultaneously cutting capital gains taxes. 14. Against affirmative action, for affirmative action 15. For a timetable in Iraq, against it, for it, against it. (56% of Americans for it.) 16. Says ok to criticize a president on national security, (7/28/03) then says not okay. (12/7/05) 17. For challenging incumbents in primaries, then against them. 18. Sold out Seniors in Medicare. 19. Took money from Big Pharma and helps them gouge consumers on prescription drugs. 20. Takes money from Big Insurance, puts HMO bureaucrats before health care patients. 21. Against school vouchers, for school vouchers which destroy education. 22. Against Hollywood producing pornography but owns $16,200 in a pornography corporation. 23. Favored private SS accounts, against private SS accounts. 24. Obstructed reform of corporate corruption, then supported it. 25. Favored tax cuts for the wealthy in a time of war, then opposed them. 26. For litmus tests on Supreme Court nominees, against them, for them. 27. Opposed extremist judges then votes to allow Samuel Alito onto the Supreme Court. 28. Voted to help credit card companies gouge consumers with usurious interest rates. 29. Opposed civil unions for gay people when most Americans support it. 30. Voted to undermine litigants by voting for tort regression restricting legitimate lawsuits. 31. Engaged in race baiting by sending corporate lobbyist to white communities with “Al Sharpton democrat” talking point while lying to black voters by claiming that Ned Lamont belongs to a racist country club. 32. Favors the egregious portions of the Patriot Act which undermine our Constitution and way of life. 33. As a member of the CT state Senate, Joe voted against creating living wills for people. 34. Once joined forces with Jesse Helms to strip federal funding for schools that counseled suicidal gay teens. 35. Handed out welfare to Hadassah’s hospital as payola for her being on their board. 36. Co founded an organization with Lynn Cheney (American Council of Trustees and Alumni) designed to engage in McCarthyite witch hunts against educators. 37. Refused to criticize Dick Cheney for supporting apartheid in South Africa. 38. Chairs religious extremist group with disgraced former Christian Coalition head Ralph Reed 39. Oh my God! A prayer that all the Connecticut people are waking up to the saving of our Democracy and will, in effect, begin the lead of our nation and its peoples back to America's original intent. Allow us all to help Ned Lamont start that process. Stymie those who would betray the needs and freedoms of its peoples and make us all great again in truth and example. We will be eternally greatful. Amen.
