The Shock and Awe of Bombing Iran: The Bush-Cheney Grand Finale of Destruction

In case you missed it last week, Admiral William Fallon resigned as head of Central Command (CENTCOM), the US military headquarters for the Middle East and Central Asia. He was the commanding officer overseeing General David H. Petraeus, the top American Army commander in Iraq, and the Bush/Cheney political general who carries out their policies.

Fallon's resignation was really a euphemism for getting fired. It was widely reported that Fallon felt that bombing Iran would threaten the stability of our military forces, and had some disagreement over the current Iraq policy.

The Democrats and Republicans in Congress had let Bush get away with the con game of claiming to "listen to the professionals, the military commanders on the ground," as he undertook and continued the Band-Aid of the "surge." But Bush and Cheney have been adept at pushing aside any dissenters in the Pentagon who question the viability of their obsession to militarily dominate the Middle East through war. Petraeus has been their key "embed," who ensures that we will use military force indefinitely to control the oil rich Middle East.

Of course, the complicated issue of terrorism that might threaten the United States is getting little attention, because the Cheney/Bush-created chaos in the Middle East had distracted the nation's military and intelligence services from dealing with the potential fundamentalists who really threaten U.S. interests outside of Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan.

The immediate cause for Fallon's sudden "resignation" was a magazine article in which he aired his differences with the Bush/Cheney policies in the Middle East, particularly the issue of potentially bombing Iran. It was printed in Esquire and was titled “The Man Between War and Peace.” The article began, “If, in the dying light of the Bush Administration, we go to war with Iran, it’ll all come down to one man. If we do not go to war with Iran, it’ll come down to the same man. He is that rarest of creatures in the Bush universe: the good cop on Iran, and a man of strategic brilliance. His name is William Fallon."

Amidst the passionate and contentious Democratic primary, all of us may have taken our eyes off the pending possibility that Bush and Cheney kicked Fallon aside to replace him with a politically-malleable military leader who will go along with nuking Iran.

That may be the final shock and awe that this monstrous administration will leave us with before they exit stage right.

Such an action -- dropping nukes on Iran -- may lead to a conflagration that will finally satisfy the End Times prayers of John Hagee and Tim LaHaye.

God help us all.

While we are distracted by the Democratic Party nomination battle, Bush and Cheney appear to be getting ready for a fireworks show that may just set the world on fire.

What's gonna happen

We had tens of MILLIONS of people in the streets of the world before they went into Iraq and it didn't stop a thing. Our Senators and Representatives rolled over like trained puppies and Bush/Cheney did what they pleased. Nothing we can do will stop them. Iran will not be attacked before October/November, and then, only if Obama is the candidate and McCain is too far behind to safely steal his victory without waking the peasants. They don't want to do anything to make life harder for the slave workers than necessary to keep them in line. If they make it TOO hard for the masses, there is always that French Revolution to consider. But, of course, if they MUST nuke Iran from the sky to maintain power then they will, because human life or the consequences of immoral and illegal actions are not considered by these Rethuglican criminals.

So quasimodo and chimpy

Want to bomb Iran, huh? Think they'll go through Congress to do this? Bwahahahaha!

Fallon and Iran

Hey buzz...glad to see we're back in the ballgame. the primaries and spitzer are a distracting sideshow. we have to keep an eye on these ne'er do wells right up until the final whistle. hey buzz how about putting a list together of all the generals who've been resigned or fired for doing their jobs as commanders?

Not to worry

John Conyers and others in Congress have said that Bush will be impeached if he bombs Iran. Wouldn't it make more sense to impeach if they EVEN TAKE STEPS TO BEGIN A WAR? What good does it do after the fact? What a bunch of clowns.

TREASONOUS WAR PROFITEERS? > Not Adm Fallon.

"...let Bush get away with the con game of claiming to "listen to the professionals, the military commanders on the ground," Well, there ya have it! ADMIRAL Fallon wasn't a 'military commander on the ground', he was Navy/'on the water guy'... Sorry. I know it's NOT funny. Fallon did the honorable thing by resigning. If Colin Powell, or Abizaid, or Franks, or any/all of the other contributors to the disaster in Iraq had 'done the right thing' (resiging) we might not be where we are today. They ALL have blood on their hands, and some, loot/treasure (from book deals and speaking engagements) in their pockets, making them in my book: TREASONOUS WAR PROFITEERS with blood dripping from their hands. One PISSED OFF Viet Vet ('72-'73)

Treason

I could not have said it any better. Pissed off wife of a Vietnam Vet('68-'69) USMC

Ruth in Iran

Given the utter lack of ruthfullness displayed so far by Cheney/Bush, I would amplify any alarm the Obama campaign might raise about his security. I agree with the previous writer that a suspension of the election and dissolution of the Congress are not beyond the scope of the Republicrats agenda. True to history, the powers that be will always maintain their access to power by use of force rather than maintain the mechanisms of a representative democracy. The Obama campaign, improbable if not impossible, and inspiring if not God-sent, is our only present hope of saving the poor Middle East and South Asia from their ruthlessness.

They've made a lot of changes.

Bush when he first got into office got rid of anyone who was against using nuclear bombs for offensive bombing. Everyone in the high command of the military has been moved out if they disagree with anything these two creeps are up to. They've had these plans for years or probably decades - whatever the plans are. Our government seems to have it's own agenda which is not being shared with We the People.

Purportedly there's a letter,

a letter from Congress threatening impeachment if Bush/Cheeney nuke Iran. Let's see if I can be clairvoyant about what the excuses to not impeach will be when the inevitable takes place: 1. We can't impeach the commander in chief in time of war. 2. There isn't enough time left before their term in office expires. 3. We already told you, dammit, it's off the table. 4. We can't impeach or have elections while under martial law. 5. We're afraid of being declared enemy combatants; we'll be thrown in jail per the Patriot Idiot Act we passed. 6. Congress has been "temporarily" disbanded by the commander in chief. 7. We're afraid of being tortured--no, no, no, not the waterboard...glub, glub, glub.

Not looking good

Perhaps their attack on Iran will be more intended to provide the necessary excuse for canceling the 2008 Presidential election and retaining power?

It is very difficult to believe that these sociopathic gangsters will voluntarily cede control to Democrats lead by Obama, or trust that McCain can defeat Hillary if they successfully engineer that dismal contest through whatever Machiavellian means.

Perhaps?

Sorry to slip into valley speak, but "Fer surre" is more on target than perhaps. The more than probable terrorist backlash from such an act will promote a situation where Darth Cheney, Chimpy, and the Neocons will 'regrettably' say "In order to protect the people of America, we feel it necessary to postpone the national elections." And you know the really sick part? There will be people in this country who will swallow this festering turd of an excuse hook line and sinker. Those who raise their voice in protest will be deemed "Terrorist sympathizers" or supporters resulting in a free long term vacation in those detention camps via the jack booted thugs of KBR (Blackwater). Then we can all goose step to freedom...
