Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama: Hidden IRS Tax Returns Vs. Tony Rezko

February 29, 2008

Let's explore two issues of potential unknown downsides for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

We'll start with Obama's Rezko association because we are well-steeped in Illinois politics, being in Chicago, and have been following the Rezko case with great interest.

The first item of interest to know is that the Rezko prosecution is being pursued by the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois Patrick Fitzgerald -- yes, the same one who convicted Scooter Libby as a special prosecutor. The second thing to know is that Rezko is one of those perennial scumbags who gives large sums of money -- along with getting "business" acquaintances to do the same -- to politicians in the hope that eventually he will get a "pay-off" in terms of getting government contracts or state jobs for people, of which he gets a cutback. (We should qualify that although Rezko hasn't been convicted of anything and is thus presumed innocent, he has been indicted.)

The Clintons know this type of parasite well, since they have had to give back donations from such leeches on a number of occasions. Senator Clinton most recently had to fork up more than $800,000 in donations from one Mr. Hsu, a felon on the lam, who had donated to her campaign.

A February 28th ABC News report on one of the recent developments in the Rezko case states: "Obama is not considered a target of the federal corruption investigation, and his campaign staff says any contribution tied to Rezko has since been donated to charity."

Yes, Rezko's wife brought a thin corner lot -- which was recently sold to a third party -- adjacent to Obama's Hyde Park Chicago house. But the seller of the home, a physician, has indicated that the price of the home had nothing to do with the sale of the adjacent lot.

Furthermore, there is nothing to indicate in any of the long investigations of Rezko that Obama offered any quid pro quo for campaign contributions, similar to the situation that the Clintons have found themselves in when having to deal with rogue donors. The offering of a contract, job, or favorable government regulation is what makes such a donor-politician relationship a crime. If the mere receipt of money from unsavory operators were illegal, the Clintons and almost every other politician would have been in jail a long time ago.

Those of us in Illinois politics who have followed the course of the Rezko case through each new court filing and leak know that the Rezko case has a high profile target, and it is not Barack Obama, who is just a recipient of Rezko campaign funding and sycophancy (but with no indication whatsoever of any quid pro quo). The person that Patrick Fitzgerald is in pursuit of nailing is the Democratic Governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, who is known as "Public Official A" in prosecution court filings. Whether it can be proven or not (depending upon whether Rezko and some other indicted schemers flip or not), it appears that Blagojevich's office -- including the Governor -- participated in a "pay to play" scheme on a large scale -- with Rezko receiving government contracts and jobs for himself and others.

Obama, like the Clintons with many of their past donors, appears just to be the recipient of largesse because very few politicians ask where donations are coming from, but return them when a donor is "outed."

As for Rezko's wife's involvement with the purchase of an adjacent lot to Obama's house, Obama has admitted a lapse in judgment and called it "boneheaded." Still, there is no indication of any investigation or breaking of the law in this much discussed home purchase.

The far more uncertain revelation that is hanging out there is what potentially explosive information is in the income tax returns of Senator Hillary and former President Bill Clinton. Barack Obama has released his income tax returns, rendering his financial situation utterly transparent. Senator Clinton, however, has refused to release her joint income tax returns until after she were to be nominated by the Democratic Party. When queried about this by Tim Russert during the Cleveland debate, Clinton was evasive and downright clumsy in her explanation. She told the nation that she hardly has time to sleep, let alone deal with a tax return. Are we to believe that Senator Clinton needs time to get her calculator out and do her own tax returns, as Bill sits by her side?

No, Senator Clinton is not releasing her tax returns because there is obviously something in them that she doesn't want to come out until -- and if -- she gets the nomination. People who worry about a ticking bombshell should sure be worried about that one, because she could release them now with one phone call to the accountants. The Clintons have gone from being millions of dollars in debt when they left office to having assets estimated up to $50 million now. And Bill is off receiving commissions on some financial dealings with shady world leaders and financiers. When will we know the details about these transactions? Since Senator Clinton lent her campaign $5 million, did some of the money come from Bill's "rainmaker" fees?

Well, Senator Clinton, as transparent and as vetted as she claims to be, isn't telling us.

Then there is the second issue of the incestuous relationship between contributors to Bill Clinton's library and charitable funds. It is rumored that he has accepted money from at least some foreign contributors who might be seeking favorable relationships in a Hillary Clinton administration. When asked about why these contributors are not revealed, Senator Clinton pulls a rope-a-dope and claims that it is a decision that is up to Bill, as if she is powerless to influence him. Once again, where is the transparency? If there is nothing to hide, why is it being hidden?

We know that the Clinton supporters who believe that Senator Clinton should be inoculated from any criticism will read this blog and immediately object that it could have been written by Chris Matthews, which is the standard response we receive to any valid criticism of the Senator. Frankly, we have denounced Matthews as misogynist and agree with Senator Clinton that MSNBC has not clamped down on a sexist "locker room" atmosphere.

But just as being unfairly attacked because of sexism is to be denounced; so is an attitude that says a person of either gender can do no wrong because of their gender.

Senator Clinton's refusal to come clean on her income taxes and to get Bill to reveal donors to his post-presidential activities indicates that there is something that the Senator doesn't want us to know during the primaries.

The question is, if the Senator is utterly transparent and vetted, than why is she not being utterly transparent and vetted when it comes to her finances?

And would this potentially be a serious liability in the fall?

Good question, indeed.

Afternote from the Obama Campaign:

During a recent MSNBC debate, Senator Clinton was asked if she would release her tax returns. She answered, “Well, I will do it as others have done it, upon becoming the nominee or even earlier.” But the very next day, her campaign backtracked, saying, “As is customary, as the Democratic nominee Sen. Clinton will release her tax information in April at tax time.”

But waiting until April is not customary. In the 2004 Democratic primary, Governor Dean, Rep. Kucinich, Senator Lieberman, and Senator Edwards released their tax returns in April of 2003 – a full year earlier in the primary process. Senator Kerry released his tax returns in December of 2003, and General Clark released his tax returns in January of 2004.

Senator Clinton’s refusal to make this very basic disclosure has raised a number of eyebrows among advocates for increased transparency. As her top Ohio supporter Governor Ted Strickland said in his 2006 campaign, if a candidate is not releasing his or her “tax return, what is he hiding? We should question what’s going on.”

Senator Clinton should explain why she believes voters in the upcoming primaries shouldn’t have access to the same information as voters in the general election.

Senator Obama has made a practice of releasing his tax returns (the summary and the schedules), because he believes that after seven years of secrecy from the Bush Administration, we need increased transparency in our government. Allowing voters to evaluate this information is good for the process, but this is particularly true when a candidate decides to use his or her own personal fortunes to fund their campaign, which Senator Clinton did when she loaned her campaign $5 million.

Senator Clinton’s refusal to release her tax returns is part of a pattern of secrecy that has imbued her campaign and raises questions about the sort of change she would be willing and able to bring to Washington.

Equally troubling is the fact that three years after Senator Clinton said all the record in the Clinton library would be available, less than 300,000 of the 78 million documents have been released.

In the debate, Senator Clinton tried to cast some of the blame on the White House for the delayed release of her records, saying, “Now, also, President Bush claims the right to look at anything that is released, and I would urge the Bush White House to move as quickly as possible.” But White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said that Clinton representatives have known since Jan. 31 that the documents – Senator Clinton's daily public schedule during her husband's presidency – have been deemed ready for public release by the National Archives. “To my knowledge, we have not been contacted by Mrs. Clinton or anyone else about moving more quickly with the review and release of Clinton material, specifically, her schedules.”

February 27 Washington Post Editorial:

Time for Tax Returns
Why won't Hillary Clinton and John McCain disclose their filings?
Wednesday, February 27, 2008; A16

HERE'S ONE instructive difference among the leading presidential candidates: Only one, Sen. Barack Obama, has released his income tax returns. Mr. Obama's Democratic rival, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, and the presumptive Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain, have so far refused to do so. Most troubling, Mr. McCain isn't even pledging to release his returns once he becomes the nominee.

It might be possible, if unconvincing, for presidential candidates to draw a principled line at such an invasion of privacy. After all, candidates are required to file financial disclosure forms that outline their assets and liabilities, along with the amount and sources of their income -- although, notably, spouses are exempt from providing much detailed income information. This argument would be unconvincing because the stakes involved in picking a president allow for little in the way of a zone of privacy. It has become a given that presidents and vice presidents release their tax returns; why shouldn't the same be expected of someone applying for the job? In addition to filling the gaps in the financial disclosure requirements, tax returns provide insights and information that are not available elsewhere, such as the use of tax shelters or the amounts and kinds of charitable contributions.

Privacy is not, in any event, the argument that Ms. Clinton is making. "I've said that I'm going to release my tax returns when I'm the nominee," Ms. Clinton said at a forum this month. This is contrary to historical practice; Sen. John F. Kerry released his returns in December 2003, long before winning the nomination; Vice President Al Gore's returns, of course, were already public. More important, the refusal is unsupported by any rationale: If it's legitimate for voters to expect nominees to disclose their returns, why not primary candidates, especially at this winnowed stage of the process? Indeed, Ms. Clinton's refusal to release her returns is exactly contrary to her campaign's argument that Mr. Obama has not been "fully vetted," as campaign adviser Harold Ickes said Monday at a breakfast sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor. When it comes to Ms. Clinton, Mr. Ickes said, "There's nothing left to vet." Really? Then show us the tax returns.

Mr. McCain's position is even more disturbing. He is the all-but-official GOP nominee, yet his communications director, Jill Hazelbaker, told us in an e-mail that she had "not yet discussed" the matter with Mr. McCain. "He is not the nominee of the party at this time, and we're focused on winning primary contests and wrapping up the nomination," she wrote. "When the right time comes I will have that discussion and get you an answer to your questions." With all due respect, Mr. McCain, the right time is now.

Obama camp ADMITS meeting w/ Canadian embassy about NAFTA

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23441880/

"The meeting was first reported last week by Canadian television network CTV, which cited unnamed sources as saying that Goolsbee assured the Canadians that Obama's tough talk on the North American Free Trade Agreement is just campaign rhetoric not to be taken seriously.
...
The memo obtained by the AP was widely distributed within the Canadian government. It is more than 1,300 words and covers many topics that DeMora said were discussed in the Feb. 8 "introductory meeting" between himself, Goolsbee and the consul general in Chicago, Georges Rioux.
***************
(Obama advisor Austan Goolsbee) said the visit lasted about 40 minutes, and perhaps two to three minutes were spent discussing NAFTA. He said the Canadians asked about Obama's position, and he replied about his interest in improving labor and environmental standards, and they raised some concerns that Obama sounds like a protectionist."

I never gave much of a rat's a$$ about this until I saw all the juvenile reactions behind it. Calling everyone a liar, a troll and anything else you could come up with - but you're wrong. All of you that commented to the contrary on this subject - you're wrong, and Obama's camp is now admitting it. Of course, they're denying the notes of the Canadians.....but they had previously denied ever meeting with them at first, too.

Now swallow your pride, and quit playing Drudge wannabe?

More Groce Deception

This bogus charge was refuted in media reports days ago. And Groce, you know it. The Canadian government has refuted this smear.

Are you worried about..

Tax returns???? Well let me give you what we shuld all be worried about! Our nation is on the verge of a recession, people are loosing thier jobs, homes, gas prices are at almost @$4.00, we have millions that are uninsured We have a candidate that has only been in the senate for only 2 years as a Jr. Senator, that believes he can hop skip and jump right into the white house and take over problems he knows nothing about.
and you are all worried about tax returns. Who cares, what we need to care is how are we the american people goint to solve the crucial problems we are in, the challenges ahead..We are stuck on a man that is an empty vessell and guess what he might just be our next president and then what????
and he will get there becasue the press, media and the irresponsible journalist that have given Mr. Obama a FREE PASS!!!
Mr. Obama, who wispers sweet nothing and captures our naive hearts becasue he speaks well. All his so important words he's been spouting are not even his own. Why has the standard been different for obama than for Mr. Biden who was hummiliated for doing the same thing? MEDIA, PRESS AND JOURNALIST GIFT OF THE IRRESPONSIBLE ACTION OF GIVING MR.OBAMA THE FREE PASS!!!THE LACK OF REQUIERING HIM TO BE ACCOUNTABLE!!!

"If your going to be talking about the value of words, the words ought to be your own" someone once said.ONCE AGAIN..BIDEN GETS HUMILIATED OBAMA PORTRAYS THIS AS BEING SILLY AND AGAIN THE MEDIA GIVES HIM THE FREE PASS..CAN YOU EVEN IMAGINE HOW BIDEN FELT..WHY IS THE MEDIA GIVING OBAMA THE FREE PASS>>>

I continue to urge all of you to really think about Mr. Obama. His association with Bill Ayers who is has threaten our country and is a radical terrorist, Rezco, and Ferrakhan who is know that he hates Whites, Jews,Asians, Latinos and Gays. He tries to hide these realations just as he did at the debate, stating Rezco was just a 5 hour job for the law firm he was working. He down outright lied. wE DON'T KNOW this man. We have horrible enemies that would like to see the United States distroyed, they planned for years the hit on the twin towers. We don't know Obama and I can't tell you that I know anything, but just the maybe scares me! We don not need a Grandios Tsunami wave for the aftermath was disasterous! That is what Obama in essence will be..

We need to REALLY REALLY BECAREFUL before we put this man as our commander and chief...The most powerful man of our nation!!

Here We Go Again. . .More Claptrap by a Right-Wingnut

Really, VR08, you're not fooling anyone on this forum. You've already been "outed" as a Republican talking pointer, and your racially-motivated bias against Barack Obama is by now as obvious as that of David Duke -- who's backing Ron Paul (and I suspect you're backing him, too). I'm starting to wonder if you work for Rush Limbaugh.

GIVE IT UP!!! You're not gong to convince anyone here.

Tax Records and Library Records

All of Senator Clinton's tax records have been filed except for year 2007 which ended two months ago. How can you release your tax information for 2007 when your return is not a simple one page filing as the Clintons would definitely not be....your assertions are ridiculous. As for the records from the library.....gee they only have 78 million Clinton documents to go through and they are supposed to have that done in 3 years? Let's remember it is not the Clintons who are doing this work or providing the staff to do it. It is the National Archives staff that goes through these records and releases them and the Clinton Library is not their only responsibility. Just because the press needs fodder
to trash with doesn't mean the National Archivers have to respond. Once things are released
the Clintons have the right to examine it and so does Bush. If you want to see how slowly they move...go look at what they have released so far at
http://clintonlibrary.gov/textual.html. Just for the record, they recently released something on the Emancipation Proclamation....not exactly a speedy release. When you
visit the Clinton Library, the archivists will tell you that their primary focus is
on President Clinton so I am sure Hillary's daily schedule in not exactly top priority for them. Buzzflash would be more credible if you did some factual research before you fling
your accusations.

Double Talk from Gabby

"All of Senator Clinton's tax records have been filed except for year 2007 which ended two months ago. How can you release your tax information for 2007 when your return is not a simple one page filing as the Clintons would definitely not be....your assertions are ridiculous."

Nobody's talking about "filing" tax returns. We're talking about Clinton releasing her returns as Obama and many other Democratic candidates have done, so that voters can see who they're getting money from.

How can you release tax information when your return is not a simple one page filing? Simple. Release it. As honest Democrats do.

Gabby, these obfuscations are simply ridiculous.

must not be many honest democrats then

since only one has done so. And no repulbican candidate did it, either. Neither did any other candidate of any other party, and neither did any independent.

Oh, forget about the fact that no candidate HAS to do so, eh?. Last one who was REQUIRED to do so was Al Gore, and due to his VP spot at that time - and only because he was VP and not because he was a presidential candidate; go back and read the article you keep posting here. And check out the fact that the only modern candidate it can list who ever did so without necessity was John Kerry. Nevermind the fact that NO OTHER CANDIDATE DID SO according to the same op/ed article.

And to directly address your (again) completely incorrect commentary above: how can she release her returns when she hasn't FILED those returns yet? If she didn't diddy up the 1040 for the IRS yet, how the hell can she provide it to you right now? come on - your arguments are getting worse and worse and poorer and poorer

Obama / Rezko

There is something that Mark forgot to mention in his last article about Obama vs Clinton.
It seems that when Mr. Obama was asked about his connection to Rezko when this thing began, he did the nobel "political dodge" by saying that he really couldn't recall any dealings with Rezko. Pure crap !!!!!! In reality, he and Rezko were already communicating, especially when it came time to buy his new home. Rezko was a big contributer to his campaign. After which, Mr. Obama backed off on his orriginal proposed piece of legislation concerning spills at nuclear power plants. Rezko and his pals were right in the middle of that fiasco.
So, Mark, lets start putting this into prospective. If you were worth your "salt", you would quit trying to slant the news. This piece refers to something that is quite easily confirmed by the commoners among us.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Lymann

Yes it can been confirm, yet the media, press and the irresponsible journalist neglect to elaborate on this. Yet they spend thier ink on elaborating on anything to put down Hillary..
TAX RETURNS??? we are in crucial times!!!
What we need to do is STOP GIVING MR. OBAMA THE FREE PASS. HIS ASSOCIATION WITH REZCO, FRRAHKAN,AND BILL AYERS (a know hard radical terrorist that has threaten our nation!!!
This is what we should be worried about. To think that our youuth thinks he is cool, well there will be no more BMW's or latte's
with Obama!!!
I call that the media be responsible and stop giving Obama a free pass. Just wait everything will let loose when and If he wins the nomination. They will start being responsible and then we will have 4 more years of Republicans, and if obama should win God help us!!!

Fdcgjc is a conservative troll

And posts under the same name at other sites.

Many of the "Obama supporters" trashing Clinton here are. Same talking points.

Most Obama supporters are decent people.

Pigressive, take your lies out of here

Pigressive, please take your slurs and leave this blog alone. You're nothing by a reich wing troll.

reich wing troll

is EXACTLY what I'd call you, skolnick

And I WILL be leaving this site to you and Mark (since few others will be here...) after I finally get the merchandise I paid for, and that is arriving in separate shipments - again - and without notice - again.

Excellent work

Thanks, Mark. This is a concise explanation of the Rezko matter, and the issues that disturb us about the Clintons. Be reminded, Clinton defenders, that there are precious few Obama supporters who did not defend the Clintons ad infinitum, for years and years. I'm a 57 year old white female, and I defended the Clintons, willing to believe it was all the fault of Evil Republicans. Talk about naive. And it is the Clintons who have turned me away.

Saying you've been fully vetted when you refuse to disclose any of your financial dealings over the last 7 years is disingenuous, at best. Sleazy and secretive seem better explanations to me. There are reports this morning that the tax returns have alredy been filed, so that's a lie told by Hillary. The Bush administration claims they have not received any requests to release the other papers (of course, it is the Bush Administration, but they seem to be happy to support you in your fight against Obama). Hillary shouldn't have opened her mouth about using First Lady experience as a reason to elect her president, without her willingness to let us assess those years and the inner workings of the failed healthcare debacle. She's had 7 years of planning to run for president to request the release of those documents. Totally unacceptable.

Couple that with statements like yesterday's: In Ohio, I believe, Hillary told a group of supporters that "Obama doesn't want you to have healthcare. He only wants children to have healthcare." A distortion of policy that would make Karl Rove proud. Questioning Obama's pro-choice record, then whining about alleged misrepresentations about NAFTA -- it's completely dishonest.

Hey, it may work: people descended to their baser instincts to elect George W. Bush. But to have a democrat get a nomination that way -- it's despicable.

I know, I know. She's a fighter. Show me one progressive cause she or Bill have delivered to us, against political will, and made the Republicans pay for it.

Couldn't the CLintons have said, "You get welfare reform, we get healthcare." Never. Never demanded deals like that. Just played to right, comfortably, with nothing in return.

And if -- and it's a big if -- Hillary got to the White House, without Bill's political skills, left to address the American people on her own, she'll deliver nothing to us. Nothing. The country is a bigger mess than in 1993; the damage of George Bush so deep, she can't just "work hard." She needs an American electorate who believe in her, like her, trust her and will rally to her. After 35 years of "experience", she is incapable of those skills.

But lie her way to the White House -- that she's good at. As I said, Karl Rove is truly proud.

I, as a past Clinton apologist, am ashamed.

I agree

Fdcgjc ..Maybe you should be ashamed... of yourself of course...
By the way... Research obama's healthcare plan and then Hillary's .. You were wrong on your blog ....
Get informed!!!

au contraire

"This is a concise explanation of the Rezko matter" ... is it? Then where is the explanation? It offers some excuses, and which we know are based on incorrect information, too - thus, those excuses are invalid.

"when you refuse to disclose any of your financial dealings over the last 7 years is disingenuous" - then why aren't you saying that to the other candidates who didn't? Better yet, since you think such information should be open, then why you don't you share YOUR personal tax records with US?

"There are reports this morning that the tax returns have alredy been filed" - then show them to us. Given the unfounded basis your other statements, your word alone is invalid. Please offer us a link to such reports that defends your statement.

"She's had 7 years of planning to run for president to request the release of those documents." but the release of those documents has been held, and due to actions by GWB. It doesnt' make a difference what Bush says about *requests* to release any information - its irrelevant because his order, which was to block access to documents of his own administration, applies that same block to previous administrations. DOn't like it? Tell Bush. Wanna blame Hillary? then go watch Fox news, too

"Obama doesn't want you to have healthcare. He only wants children to have healthcare." That's becuase his healthcare plan only provides guaranteed healthcare to children - many adults can be excluded, and not by their choice.

You are certainly entitled to your own opinion of Clinton and anyone else - but you're attempting to influence the opinion of others with obviously false information. And to such a point that sometimes I wonder if you, bf and the one or two others receiving this drivel with positivity are only scheming AGAINST Obama - because you're driving undecided voters (like me, who was county rep for Edwards) AWAY from Obama.

Ordinarily, I'd vote Democrat in the final no matter who it was. As long it ain't repug, I'm voting blue. But to include myself with persons who issue juvenile arguments, based on false information, and who then issue teenage insults when their arguments are countered? Sorry - don't want to join that club.

And without us undecided voters, who ordinarily would have voted Obama had it not been for the ignorant arguments seen here, Obama's gonna have a hard time to beat anybody. And these unfounded, rumor-laden arguments are what's going to keep us away from Obama.

Getting sloppy, Mark?

BF has fallen SO low ... it's more than a little disheartening. First, you ally yourself with Matt Drudge (Drudge!?!?) to make spurious, unsupported accusations against Hillary Clinton. Now you are impying unethical or illegal activity because she hasn't done something which she is under no obligation to do? Wow ...

I thought I caught a glimmer of hope for BF a couple of days ago when you yanked Andrew Wahl's ridiculous cartoon from your site - You know the one - a picture of Hillary Clinton with "SHRILL!" in large font as a caption (here http://www.offthewahl.com/blog/). Was it the sexist overtones that made you pull it? (What male candidate has ever been labeled "Shrill!"?). I had hoped that maybe, just maybe, BF had finally reached a floor beneath which you would refuse to delve, despite your Clinton animus.

Guess this article answers that question.

hey there

where is the comment that I posted (?!) about 2 hours ago - can it be that you are filtering -oh no, not you!

How about some Buzzflash financial disclosure?

How about a full accounting for the income and expenditures of your site, Mark?

I think as a donor and someone you're always emailing and begging for money, I'm entitled. :)

good point

The law firm annual take is readily available, but not that of Buzzflash. The credit rating of this bf establishment is very poor, too.

Hit piece, right out of the right wing attack handbook

Karl Rove has nothing on Buzzflash when it comes to hit pieces on Democrats. For shame Buzzflash!!! This sounds eerily like the msm defending Bush against Ken Lay. Like Ken Lay, Rezko's family actually vacationed with the Barrack family, but you spin it like they didn't even know each other. They bought adjacent property at the SAME TIME, then Rezko sold half of his to Obama in a real sweetheart deal. You say it's a small lot, but it was over an acre. Is there no lie you won't stoop to? I have absolutely adored this site and have been here every day for the past 4 years and now it makes me sick. I have given money many times, will never do so again until you come down from you spiked kool aid trance and quit trying to totally spin the news. By the way, that remark about claws is 100% sexist. When have you ever in your life seen remarks about claws made about men - never, ever because it doesn't happen! It's sexist code for bitchy woman and you know it. Again I repeat - for shame. You know, before you started absolutely frothing and lying about Clinton, I didn't support either one of these candidates. My real candidate is Edwards with Richardson in 2nd. Your hate for the only viable woman candidate ever has made me and my children (who are in their 20's) so mad, we have become Clinton supporters and have contributed to her cause because someone has to stand against sexist drivel. You would never tolerate racist rants, but promote sexism - it's just a sad time. Obviously there are a lot of Dems in Obama's corner and they are keeping you afloat, but you have pissed off many others.

Oh by the way, Clinton's tax returns were released to the Senate, but please don't let the truth detain you from your negative spins.

jaglady

So, there is no record of

So, there is no record of Obama doing any legislative work in either the Illinois Senate or U.S. Senate that benefited Rezko? No other people have come forth to say that Obama influenced them in anyway for Rezko's benefit?
The Clintons, having been politics for over 20 years, should be used to releasing their financial records for public scrutiny. So, it should be slam dunk for her to do it now. The response that she gave at the debate was laughable. As if her PA can't get on the phone to their attorney and have those documents in the public hands in an hour. I want to know about the Clinton Foundation/Library donor list too.

evdebs !!!yes its important that you get the records and you wil

so tell us what you are going to do with all this information??? Make a grand dicision on the falling economy, solve the recession we are headed, get people back thier jobs, homes, insure the uninsured, solve poverty? Go for it!!!
Oh so silly...Focus on the crucial times we are in, Do you honestly think Obama will solve these problems when he has done nothing to show for the two measly years he has spent as a jr Senator. His 18 year relation with Rezco, Ferrahkon and now we just found out his firendship and donor Mr. Bill ayers a hard radical with Terrorist threats towrds the United State..Oh but lets not worry about all this, Tax Returns
thats whats important to you..Well you worry about Hillary's Tax return while the rest of the nation worry about what danger Obama may bring!!!

Lieresponsibly08 Slinging It Again

Reader Warning: VotesResponsibly08 is one of the Repugnican fifth columnists sent out to sow animosity and discord on Democratic and progressive web sites.

Frankly, I have to wonder

I've been hanging out on Buzz for a long time, and never has there been this type of sophomoric posting going on. Outsiders is all I can figure. People on Buzz just don't disgree in this manner. Not saying they don't disagree, I'm saying the ways in which this is being done is something I've not seen on the site until recently. Me, I'm going to ignore all this, probably stop posting and wait for all this to blow over.

the stench of Karl Rove

reeks from your postings.

Do crappy, juvenile things and then try to cause an uproar by accusing someone else of doign crappy, juvenile things.

In this circumstance, you enter this site as a fifth wheel troll, posting juvenile crap easily proven false, and then issue accusations of others being fifth wheel trolls.

Everyone is on to you, Skolboy

really s t r e t c h i n g it this time

"Yes, Rezko's wife brought a thin corner lot -- which was recently sold to a third party -- adjacent to Obama's Hyde Park Chicago house."

Of course, they were purchased at the same time, though, werent' they? The Rezkos and the Obamas bought the property together at the same time and from the same seller. You're insinuating this to be coincidental, but it isn't. Right next to each other.

As for it being "thin corner lot" - that was actually more than an acre, right? When did that become a "thin corner lot"?

As for it being sold to a third party - you're overlooking that half of the Rezko property was sold to the Obamas - and for notable profit - shortly after Rezko bought it.

And, hey, don't try whining about my comments - you brought up the subject.

As for the comments on the Clintons - this is nothing more than cheap insinuation. First of all, why the hell should she disclose the personal income tax returns of her and her husband? Is that a requirement? Is she violating any code or rule or law? NO. Its none of your damn business, Mark. And you know it, too. If Obama wants to do it, that's his call - it doesn't require others to do it. And if others did so in response, that could be self-defeating, appearing to only be a last-minute stab, and benefiting the opponent in the long run.

As for donors to Bill Clinton's library and charitable funds - go ask any major 501(c)3. You don't release names of major donors without their permission. In doing so, THAT would imply donations only by political affilliation - and THAT would challenge the legitimacy of the 501(c)3 status. You're making ineligible insinuations.

You're an attorney, Mark, right? You damn well know the complete inadequacy of your arguments here, which wouldn't work before any judge, and which would have you laughed out of the courtroom if you ever tried to use such arguments.

Please - these meaningless, baseless, unfounded arguments that you continue to issue regarding Clinton are only driving undecided voters away from Obama - it's defeating your purpose. It's begun to make Buzzflash resemble the National Enquirer.

I've read (and purchased from and donated to) Buzzflash for about 4 years now, and did so because I had no taste nor tolerance of the crap produced by most other media, especially those online.

Now, it appears that my goal has been defeated, and because you're stepping down into the same sewer with all those others, and are starting to stand out in stench in comparison.

Great post, groce

Mark is all excited because he cleared his paltry 25k fundraising goal. Truth be told, he should be at least doubling it, given the height of interest in politics now.

Wait until the long, hot summer 2009. Then he will begin to understand the mistake of telling half of his donors (Clinton supporters) to jump in the lake.

MP

Absolutely

A long, hot summer, indeed. I'm an Edwards guy, but the BF animus towards Clinton is an eye-opener. Head to Dailyhowler or Bartcop for some sanity.

agree w/ that premonition

and I'm not even a Hillary supporter - actually, I'd prefer to see her as VICE president. But I'm not going to sit back and watch this e-tabloidish any longer without answering to it.

Another, albeit, unfortunate incidence of Media Bias

True enough, we're all sick to death of the corruption that is a mainstay of politics. However, what really tugs at one's intestines is the donning of the cloak of invisibility - the guise of fairness and objectivity - that innumerable media pundits have worn throughout this primary election.

Instances of corruption and funders to both candidates most likely have legs. However, the fact that Hillary Clinton's association w/ Hsu was FRONT page news on newspapers throughout the country 6 months ago or so and now ... Obama's ties to Rezko have been regulated to the BACK pages - speaks volumes about the inherent bias of innumerable media newspapers, periodicals, etc. An clear example of this can be seen in the NY Times reportage of these two incidents.

This only serves to offer credence to HRC's contention of consistent media bias and unfair play. We all deserve better and I certainly expected better of Buzz Flash's editorial .....

Amen to that one, Pat

I could respect Buzzflash's opinion much more were it only presented in a non-tabloidish format. And much, much, much more were it not in the slash/trash style being used.

Apparently, you can't find anything positive to say about Obama, so you have to resort to talk trash about Clinton? What else am I supposed to assume?

Senator Clinton's tax returns

The arguments as set forth by your editorial article are at its very best, misleading.
The Senate is in full possesion of Senator Clinton's returns and full disclosure statements. It is only the pernicious gotcha remarks by that predjudiced, Tim Russert that has promulgated the furor over her tax returns. Why should she have to bow to his attempt to denigrate her? It is common knowledge that the entire NBC and MSNBC (irish mafia) group are out to get the Clintons. At the very outset of the campaign, they have spurred all her opponents to ATTACK, ATTACK, before it is too late. Then , they hung their coats on to Obama and have heralded him as a SAVIOR, never disclosing that all his speeches were full of rhetoric and no substance. She will reveal her returns at the proper time and as for Bill Clinton's , did I hear anything about the Bush's not revealing their donations?????

Misleading editorial? Not in the least.

Hey, don't take BuzzFlash's editor's word for it, read the Washington Post's editorial from two days ago. Also read the statement Clinton's top supporter in Ohio made in 2006 explaining why all candidates should release their tax returns so voters can better judge the candidates.

As the Washington Post's editorial points out, "the stakes involved in picking a president allow for little in the way of a zone of privacy. It has become a given that presidents and vice presidents release their tax returns; why shouldn't the same be expected of someone applying for the job?"

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/26/AR2008022602829_pf.html

To make matters even more embarrassing for Hillary Clinton, her top supporter in Ohio, Governor Ted Strickland, is solidly on the record calling for candidates to release their tax returns. Arguing against his opponent in his 2006 campaign, Strickland declared if a candidate will not release his or her "tax return, what is he hiding? We should question what's going on."

Yes, Sen. Clinton, as your top supporter in Ohio asked two years ago, what IS going on? What indeed are you hiding?

Clearly the claim that Clinton has already released her income taxes is false. If she had, then during the debate Sunday night Clinton would have said they were already released, instead of promising to release them AFTER she becomes the Democratic candidate.

i believe Mark knows that...

..."The Senate is in full possesion of Senator Clinton's returns and full disclosure statements." - but is still intent on spewing out trash.

Sometimes I really have wondered if teh purpose of this author is move undecided voters AWAY from Obama. That's the affect its having on me, and others here have noted the same.

Let's See the Proof you Have that She is Lying

Let's see the proof you have that Hillary is lying or has something illegal in her tax
records???? Hillary is required by the rules of the Senate to report her taxes every year.
In addition to that, her income is always reviewed and talked about in the newspapers especially in New York. Under the rules of the FEC, you don't have to submit
your tax records unless you are the nominee which she is not. She is not required by law
to submit her tax information for 2007 until April 15, 2008 like every other citizen.
You all just want it out there so you can scrutinize it and criticize it and run more articles like this one about it. President Clinton is not required by law to reveal anything
to the public - he is not a candidate, he is a private citizen. His Foundation files reports required by law just like every other Foundation. He files IRS reports every year like every other citizen. This is just another example of Buzzflash going after the Clintons so they don't have to comment on the stories about Obama, in fact most of the stories on Obama never appear on this site. What part of this is not any of your business don't you get? As long as the Clinton's follow the rules of this country set up by the IRS for citizens, the FEC for candidates and Senate ethic requirements, she is more honest that Buzzflash who claims her guility of something with no proof. Actually Matthews has higher standards than you....you are becoming closer to Drudge and hurting your candidate more and more with every article like this that is not even supported by fact but is all innuendo. If we apply your standards to Obama, he has not been proven innocent or guility of anything yet in the Retzko trial because it hasn't started yet and we don't know what will or will not come out. The ruling made by the Judge on Monday allows information to be brought forward about Retzkos straw men politicians and Obama has been named as one of those. So it is equally fair to say by your standards, that we don't know what the fall will bring for him either.

You wouldn't want to burden Mark with proof, would you?

Why doesn't he save us all some time and just link directly to Drudge? :)

Missed your banner headlines on the four stories below, Mark

They have links and everything! :))

Clinton's black superdelegates being "threatened" by Obama camp

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0208/8762.html

African-American superdelegates said Thursday that they’ll stand up against threats, intimidation and “Uncle Tom” smears rather than switch their support from Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to Sen. Barack Obama.

“African-American superdelegates are being targeted, harassed and threatened,” said Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II (D-Mo.), a superdelegate who has supported Clinton since August. Cleaver said black superdelegates are receiving “nasty letters, phone calls, threats they’ll get an opponent, being called an Uncle Tom.

“This is the politics of the 1950s,” he complained. “A lot of members are experiencing a lot of ugly stuff. They’re not going to talk about it, but it’s happening.”

After civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) switched his support from Clinton to Obama earlier this week, other black superdelegates have come under renewed pressure to do a similar about-face. A handful have bowed to the entreaties in recent weeks, including Georgia Rep. David Scott, but many say they are steadfast in their support for Clinton and resent strong-arm tactics to make them change.

Rep. Diane E. Watson (D-Calif.), a black lawmaker and Clinton backer, said the intense lobbying for Obama would not alter her vote.

“I’ve gotten threatening mail,” Watson said. “They say, ‘Your district went 61-29 Obama and you need to change.’ But I don’t intimidate. I can hold the ground. … I would lose my seat over my principles.”

Good for Watson and

Good for Watson and Stephanie Tubb Jones!!These are the people we need in our Government!!!People with Principles and loyalties.
Lewis a back stabber, with no loyalties nor principles!!!

Intimidation is what we are all going to be living with if obama gets nominated..He is scarry!!! specially with his association with Farrahkan, who hates Jews and gays!
Bill Ayers the radical terrorist who has threaten our country!!
Obama has been given a free pass becasue the media is afraid of the same...Intimidation.. Is this what we have to look forward to????

We need people like Watson and Jones true blues!!!

More of Piggressive's Lies Documented

Piggressive completely rewrote the headline and left a key part of the story out in order to falsely accuse Obama of wrong doing. He ought to be ashamed. But Reich Wing dirty tricksters are never ashamed of anything they do.

This is the article's headline, which never accused the Obama Camp of anything!

"Black backers steadfast for Clinton"

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0208/8762.html

And here's what Piggressive omitted from the article in order to make his false claims:

“Cleaver said he did not believe the Obama campaign was behind the disturbing e-mails and phone calls he has received.

"'I refuse to believe that Sen. Obama gave orders for something like this to happen. This is a contradiction of the new politics that Sen. Obama is running on,' he said."

We're watching you Piggressive and your fellow Reich Wing fifth columnists. We're not going to let you get away such false and malicious posts. I personally will track down every source you quote and show readers how you've twisted it.

That's my promise.

s t r e t c h i n g it t h i n again

that's no "omission" from the article - that's where he stopped quoting it. THe rest of the aricle didn't say very much positive about Obama supporters, either: "Black superdelegates are getting heavy pressure..." - “We can prevent this from happen by letting black leadership know we're watching.”

And as you yourself of certainly verifying, the tone of Obama supporters is wreckless, as the article makes much note of. Like your innuendo-ish threat: "We're watching you"

Well, keep watching as long as you can. And, please, do look up the facts and post them here. Because so far you've posted nothing but smear, followed by smearing those who've stated disagreement with you. (and chased away some of the votes Obama will need, too)

Actually, I formally request you to do such research of valid resources and to post them here in defense of your claims.

How is this a threat?

If Rep Watson's district went 61-29 for Obama, maybe she should consider changing her vote. But, she is right, it is her decision to make and the voters can then take her seat if they don't feel she is representing their interests. But then, the hate the whole superdelegate idea.

Is Obama Using Sexist Language?

Is Obama Using Sexist Language?
February 16, 2008 11:30 AM

Earlier this month, speaking at Tulane University, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, said this about the attacks coming his way from Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY:

"You challenge the status quo and suddenly the claws come out," Obama said.

The CLAWS come out? Really?

Then yesterday Obama told reporters who had asked about Clinton's latest attack ad, "I understand that Senator Clinton, periodically when she's feeling down, launches attacks as a way of trying to boost her appeal."

That prompted some female TV reporters to question the language he was using.

According to this unofficial transcript, over at MSNBC, Andrea Mitchell and Norah O'Donnell seemed to suggest Obama may have been -- if not playing the gender card, then using language women voters might find offensive.

Language such as "when she's feeling down" "periodically" she "launches attacks."...

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/02/is-obama-using.html

mountain out of a mole hill

"the claws come out" is just not that uncommon an expression. I have heard it used by a pretty wide range of people of both genders. I think this is clearly an attempt to make something where there is nothing. And, I am sorry, but interpreting "periodically when she's feeling down, launches attacks" as somehow a reference to gender is just silly. Actually, it took me a couple minutes to figure out how it could possibly be interpreted to be gender based. Is the implication that this is a veiled reference to Sen. Clinton's monthly cycle? Come on. Is it the term 'periodically'? What a load.

Claws is inherently sexist

When in your entire life have you ever heard the expression, she needs to retract her claws, or she's bringing her claws out, used in the masculine - NEVER. It's simply not said about men and trying to spin it otherwise is just that - a lie. It's code for bitchy woman and you know it and so does Obama. Unfortunately in America, sexism is alive and well in America - even when men try to pretend otherwise.

jaglady

If you read the post...

I did not write that I had heard it used in the masculine. I wrote "I have heard it used by a pretty wide range of people of both genders". That is 'by' people of both genders. Yes, there are expressions that are used solely when referring women, just as there are phrases used solely when referring to men. And it you choose to go around being offended by them, that is your prerogative. But it is, in this case, an attempt to make a big deal out of an offhand comment. There is no ongoing, consistent behavior on the part of Obama to indicate that he is in any way misogynistic, at least of which I am aware.

Gotta agree, but ...

Yep - I think charges of sexism against Obama are baseless. While there may be a vague connotation of sexism with regard to some of these terms, they can also be used in a perfectly innocent manner. Obama has no history of sexist comments or misogyny, and he should be taken at face value when he says there was no such intent behind his remarks.

That being said, the same standard should be applied to the charges of racism leveled against the Clintons. The Clintons have devoted much of their careers to fighting for racial equality and justice, and yet some have decided that they've become racists in the past few months. These critics have developed the magical ability to read the hearts and minds of the Clintons, and (with this special ability) have determined that the most innocuous comments are really racist appeals.

Give me a break.

Obama is not a sexist, and Hillary is not a racist.

how about " Hillary I think

how about " Hillary I think your likable enough! Did he say enough???
Would he refer to McCain like this? Would he say claws when he refers to any man???
And yes this is silly in comparisson to who he associates with:

Rezco-a crook who has been indicted, Farrahkon a racist and a hater of jews
whites,latinos, asians and gays...
Bill Ayers a hard radical terrorist that has threaten our country..

Tell me who you hang out with I'll tell you who you are! ( old saying but oh so true)
Obama just plain scares me.
