It was supposed to be over last night

q

It was supposed to be over last night with Barack Obama having won enough pledged delegates and super-delegates to make him the Democratic Party's presumptive nominee. But then Hillary Clinton took to the floor In NYC to address supporters in what many assumed would be a concession speech.

But Senator Clinton did not concede, or even ‘suspend' her presidential aspirations; she delivered a campaign speech about education and health care and bringing the troops home and ‘reached out' to the eighteen million people who voted for her in the primaries and said some perfunctory nice things about Barack Obama. She closed by reminding everyone of her dot com site, in case, anyone might want to donate to what she regards either as a victory fund or a help-me-pay-off-my-debts fund. It was a strange kind of event that left anyone inclined to scratch their head in perplexity, doing just that.

Around the same time Senator McCain was delivering his remarks to a smallish crowd of well-wishers, praising Hillary - - someone he calls a friend - - for her character and fortitude. He commended her for a campaign that had paved the way for future generations of women, including his daughters. He went on to congratulate Obama for winning the nomination, yet managed to paint him once again as a young in-experienced neophyte while alluding to his, McCain's, long family history of military service.

Those military credentials, apparently, are supposed to carry the day and catapult him into the White House because there's precious little in his message to generate excitement or justify his play on the change thing Obama initiated. And when the presidential campaign shifts into high gear he will have abundant baggage to explore, and his senatorial support of Bush policies almost without exception will tend to undercut the "maverick" reputation his supporters love to highlight in his resume.

Obama's speech before an estimated crowd of 17,000 in Minnesota was another one of his oratory triumphs. And while that particular talent isn't all that's required of a presidential candidate, and there is some evidence that even a blunderer can make it to the White House, it sure doesn't hurt to be inspired every now and then. He too mentioned some of his goals for the country, said some nice things about Hillary and didn't seem to take note of the fact that she was still more or less in the middle of things.

One of the most interesting aspects of how these campaigns shake out is the relish with which TV analysts drool over the results. On MSNBC Pat Buchanan keeps asking why can't Obama "close the deal?" And how come Hillary won big in West Virginia and Kentucky if he's such a hot shot? But using those two states as yardsticks hardly relates to the contest in November since Democrats aren't expected to carry either one of them. Numerous of the most-viewed pundits would love to see a floor fight in August because it would be such fun although possibly disastrous for the Democratic Party.

No doubt speculation about what Hillary has up her sleeve will fuel another day's news cycle while a lot of ordinary folks would like her to step aside and let the games begin. It was clear last night that Senator McCain has taken aim at Senator Obama and more or less dismissed Senator Clinton, albeit in a gentlemanly way. What exactly are we missing here? Does Hillary know something she thinks will take Obama down, other than a truly catastrophic event that is? Is she still juggling numbers so she can continue to insist she won the popular vote even if she has to omit caucus numbers, and to what purpose?

In the final wrap-up of the day's events there remained an unsettling air of things unresolved, an unexpected cloud over the proceedings. If Senator Clinton's fans want to bring down the rain on Senator Obama's parade, there's nothing to stop them, but an acceptance of reality and an end to cries of "McCain in 2008" would be an encouraging sign that they can put aside their angst and support the Democratic nominee for the good of the party and, more importantly, for the good of the country.

Fat lady no sing

When Senator Obama receives the required number of delegate votes at the Democratic Convention he will become the Democratic Nominee for President of The United States.Correct me if I have misspoken.Until then he is the presumed nominee,no more and no less.

She proves herself every time!

This is a great example of the way Clinton would have led the country. She is constantly making stupid, nasty comments and claims which she has to keep apolgizing for, and running her campaign into debt because she is being stubborn about when it's time to give up. She is just like Bush! Her attitude is a prime example! She (and her husband which is a whole 'nother subject), would make fools of us (some more), give us more BS and keep us in debt because, like Bush, she is stupidly stubborn. If she runs her campaign like this, imagine how she'd run the country! Oh HELL no. I question her agenda and can't help but see the parallel. I trust nothing about her or from her and I can't see why her supporters don't get it. I'm glad though that Hillary showed her real self long before she could get nominated. Can't wait for the ignorance and stupidity from McCain during the up coming debates! As a 50+ white woman from Wisconsin, and an obvious Obama supporter, It is the first time in my life I am voting FOR a candidate instead of against the one. Go Barack!

What's so good about a good soldier?

Since when does being a good soldier qualify one to be almost anything else in life, let alone president of the United States? The job descriptions for "soldier" and "president" are very different. Besides, I don't think many people fall for appeals to military heroism anymore. Look at how much good it did John Kerry in 2004. But McCain will have to go with this theme, because it's really all that he has.

Who's Patriotic?

McCain can only use a patriotism=military equation. How dare him decide for ME, a former Marine, that my patriotism ended with my active service. How dare him. I'm patriotic because I have a passport and visit other countries. I'm patriotic because I'm bi-lingual. I'm patriotic because I think good jobs for OUR people is best. I'm patriotic because I know that bringing home troops from this unjustifiable war is the RIGHT thing to do. I'm patriotic because I believe that healthcare for everyone will work in our favor. I'm patriotic because - contrary to the LIE and SHAM that McCain stated in his speech in Kenner, LA - REAL green jobs will do far more than what he says. Green jobs and alternate energy development is REAL patriotism. Not some fake kind of patriotism that he has decided for everyone. I'm sorry Mr. McCain. I'm truly sorry that you have not a single idea other than fighting in a war as to what REAL patriotism is. You have lost you freakin' mind if you think that being actively in a military is the ONLY way a person can be called a patriot. Well, I've got news for you. You're going to lose this election because you aren't with us anymore. You still live in the 20th century. I live in the 21st and know what REAL patriotism is all about. You can't steal that from me no matter how hard you try.

I was very, very

I was very, very disappointed that Hillary did not even allow Obama to enjoy his monumental achievement - or give him the respect HE earned. It was all about HER! HER 18 Mil votes, the states that SHE won (Calif / Ohio / Texas, even tho she didn't win there, etc), all the ppl that support HER, and SHE's not going to make a decision -- Its like a guest that drank too much & stayed too long at the party -- you are trying tactfully to get them out the door & in the taxi. Hillary - you were a wonderful role model for many many ppl- however, its time to call it a night. Be gracious & show ppl how well you can take the loss - as well as the victory. Good Night Hillary - its time to go home

You Know - I'm More Sure Than EVER Now

The Clintons are going to pull a Lieberman, tear the Democratic Party apart, and hand the election to McCain, just b/c they Didn't Get Their Way.

Disgusting.

teddy all over again

Such tactics were used by our good friend Teddy in 1980. I don't recall the uproar of the left at that time.Teddy was 300+ votes behind at the timePlease help me see the difference, please do.Maybe Jimmy will explain he was President at the time. Not just leading by 100 delegate votes.

Ron Paul

I am writing in Ron Paul. I do not care what the dem branch of the war party does.

A warmongering stooge...

...of the Military-Industrial-Complex that has bankrupted the nation and continues to work to bleed away the futures of our children will not get my vote, no matter how the hell honorable their service might have been. Fly home, Johnny.

I like the tone of what you wrote

Hi I do not understand what you are trying to say. It seems a bit out of context. I agree the private federal reserve bank and the military-industrial-medical global corporations are a danger to each and every (non rich, 99% of us) American. I see no honor in fighting wars to make rich folks richer. It is more like sad and pitiful than honorable.

Hillary wants YOU to pay her campaign debts...

Money shocker! Hillary Clinton's campaign debt soars. Corrected Item: Clinton's campaign debts at $20.88 million This is an item correcting the campaign debts of the Democratic presidential campaign of Sen. Hillary Clinton as previously reported in The Ticket. Due to a mathematical error, the $11.4 million she had previously loaned herself was counted twice, producing an incorrect total of nearly $31 million. The actual total debt of her campaign, as reported in the campaign finance filing for April, is $10 million in loans to herself plus $9.48 million in unpaid bills. Additionally, campaign officials said the New York senator gave herself another $1.4 million loan in May, producing a total current debt of $20.88 million. But the latest loan that occurred in May will not show up on finance filings until next month. The other numbers for Sen. Clinton and other candidates' financial reports stand as written in the original item. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/05/corrected-item.html

Hillary wants you to pay her campaign debts.

That may very well be. Hillary will have legal fees for the upcoming trial "Peter Paul vs Hillary Clinton. A big campaign fraud case that the media has kept a lid on and the republican party waiting in limbo for the golden opportunity to put it front and center before the American people. This alone is reason enough for Barack Obama to have grave reservations about Hillary Rodham Clinton being on his ticket as Vice President. Already I've heard a member of the opposite party speak about the fact that Barack Obama needs to make a decision about "Leaving the baggage behind or bringing the luggage aboard" in reference to Hillary Clinton.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ....

.... no one's supposed to know about that! How did you find out!?!? Did the guys in the black helicopters tell you? This is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! No ...... really .......... unbelievable ....... literally.

And it's not an "election fraud" lawsuit. It's a "looting" lawsuit against Bill Clinton filed by Peter Paul - a four-time felon and conspiracy nut. Google him ... you'll see.

"Paul's claims have not found traction. An audit by the Federal Elections Commission found that neither Senator Clinton nor her Senate campaign had accepted any illegal funds in connection with the Hollywood fundraiser[40], though the campaign was asked to pay $35,000 in fines for having underreported the cost of the party.[41] Paul's suit against the FEC was thrown out; his attempt to bring ethics charges against Clinton were rejected,[42] and his fraud charges against Senator Clinton were tossed out in April 2006.[43] Paul continued to press civil charges against Senator Clinton and former President Clinton for "looting"[44] his business, but the courts refused to allow him to sue Senator Clinton, with the appellate court specifying that her behavior had been "perfectly legal," and allowing her to recoup her legal fees from Paul.[40]" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_F._Paul

Are people really stupid enough to believe this stuff?

Oh boo whoo

She and Bill will have to struggle along on only 30 million dollars of net wealth. I feel her pain.

Here is my link to Buzzfash as I'm turning it in. http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/ Its time to move on. I stayed after Super Tuesday to read the dribble from the followers. You have won and WE have lost. I will be voting a straight Democratic ticket this year except for the President. "None of the above" will get my vote. Your on your own...

I want to

I want to agree in my heart. But my soul tells me that no matter who the democrat candidate is I will vote for them in the fall. If I know Bill and Hillary we will have our day someday.I will never forget what Bill did for peace in Ireland
