Facts Are Funny Things, No Matter What Karl Rove (and the Rest of the GOP) Says -- Barbara's Daily Buzz

Compromising Financial Reform:
Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) restarted negotiations, saying that regulatory reform is "too important to fail," and last week, Corker said that a deal with Dodd was "real close." The main sticking point that remains in the process is whether or not to create an independent Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA) like the one included in the House bill. While Dodd's initial bill included a CFPA, Corker has called a new agency a "non-starter" and Shelby has characterized it as "folly and dangerous." The banking industry has also been lobbying heavily against the CFPA.
And you thought just because you're paying their salaries, they were working for you! Guess again. This is the "non-starter" Repuglican Party, they are working for themselves and Corporate America, not for the American people!
From CNN yesterday:
...according to a survey by the American Association of School Administrators, six percent of school districts closed or consolidated schools in the 2008-2009 school year. We are in the 2009 -2010 school year...
Another 11 percent of the school districts... are considering closing schools or consolidating in... 2010.
The bottom line is that school districts are making cutbacks because of the recession...we have heard about schools going to a four-day teaching week, cutting all sorts of things and maybe a parent knows that they have to pay for more of their students' supplies even at public schools.
George Bush has given Grover Norquist his wildest dream all wrapped up in a major recession/borderline depression. Public education is at risk. Bush jeopardized America in order to give the richer than dirt percentage of the population a tax-cut amounting to $1.35 trillion. Legacy, my rear end! The only legacy for Rove/Bush/Cheney is unrequited prosecution.
A little post-script down memory lane, just in case some have forgotten:
...when Bush introduced his tax cuts he declared, “A warning light is flashing on the dashboard of our economy, and we just can’t drive on and hope for the best. We need tax relief now.” The Republicans... jumped on the Bush bandwagon claiming his $1.35 trillion in tax cuts were just what was needed to jump start a sluggish economy...
NEVER HAPPENED! The fact is it was the beginning of the end for America's economy, the beginning of NO for the Repuglicans! NO spending, NO jobs, NO jump start!
Facts are funny things, no matter what Karl Rove and the rest of the Repuglican gang says, it won't change the FACT that we are in a major recession, we are fighting two wars, the Mid-East is as unstable as ever, and our reputation all over the world was tarnished because Bush/Cheney and the rest of the Repuglicans believe in torture and abuse! All thanks to the eight years Rove is trying desperately to rewrite! As far as the
hope that Rove will one day "write a thoughtful and candid account" of his role in Bush's decline from a "national-unity" president after Sept. 11, to a "derided figure" upon leaving office...
fogettabout it; it ain't gonna happen! It just might be that a "candid account" would amount to a confession that could lead to jail.
In order to refute Karl Rove's account, in his most recent tome, of the Bush Administration, I give you Michael Moore's speech from the 2003 Oscars:
I've invited my fellow documentary nominees on the stage with us... they are here in solidarity with me because we like non-fiction. We like non-fiction, as we live in fictitious times. We live in the time where we have fictitious election results that elects a fictitious president. We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons. Whether it's the fiction of duct tape or fiction of orange alerts we are against this war, Mr Bush. Shame on you, Mr Bush, shame on you. And any time you got the Pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, your time is up. Thank you very much.
A speech that was "booed" and we all know was the unabashed truth!
