BARBARA'S DAILY BUZZFLASH MINUTE
Proof positive that McCain’s “campaign suspension” was a political stunt, that backfired!!! “Pelosi said Obama would speak for the Democrats. Though later he would pepper Paulson with questions, according to a Republican in the room, his initial point was brief: ‘We've got to get something done.’ Bush turned to McCain, who joked, ‘The longer I am around here, the more I respect seniority.’ McCain then turned to Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to speak first. Boehner was blunt. The plan Paulson laid out would not win the support of the vast majority of House Republicans. It had been improved on the edges, with an oversight board and caps on the compensation of participating executives. But it had to be changed at the core. He did not mention the insurance alternative, but Democrats did. Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, pressed Boehner hard, asking him if he really intended to scrap the deal and start again. No, Boehner replied, he just wanted his members to have a voice. Obama then jumped in to turn the question on his rival: ‘What do you think of the [insurance] plan, John?’ he asked repeatedly. McCain did not answer. One Republican in the room said it was clear that the Democrats came into the meeting with a ‘game plan’ aimed at forcing McCain to choose between the administration and House Republicans. ‘They had taken McCain's request for a meeting and trumped it,’ said this source. Congressional aides from both parties were standing in the lobby of the West Wing, unaware of the discord inside the Cabinet room, when McCain emerged alone, shook the hands of the Marines at the door and left. The aides were baffled. The plan had been for a bipartisan appearance before the media, featuring McCain, Obama and at least a firm statement in favor of intervention. Now, one of the leading men was gone.” McCain didn’t look at Obama during the debate because he was trying to control his temper; the hostility was so thick it could have been cut with a knife! Obama defeated McCain in Washington and in the debate!!!!

Obviously ending the war in Viet Nam was not McCain’s idea of “victory”; when he finally broke and gave up information to the Viet Cong during captivity it was not his notion of “honor” and it’s a sad fact that he’s still fighting that war, only he’s projecting it into Iraq and the events of today! He seems to be looking for some form of redemption by continually repeating that old and tired mantra of “bringing the troops home in victory and honor”! Never mind the casualties, never mind how many of our sons and daughters die, “victory and honor” is the only thing that’s important to John McCain!

As for the current “economic crisis”, I am not an expert, but having gotten into hot water once long ago with a credit card, I learned to pay as you go, I do not “charge” more than I can pay at the end of the month! Having said that, I depend on those “economists” who have a record of being correct more than they’ve been wrong on the economy, Paul Krugman is one of those economists whose opinion I value, so when he says, “the financial crisis is all too real,” I believe him! Relying on his opinion, I am convinced that something must be done to overcome this current Bush/Repuglican made catastrophe and the only thing to add would be; since John McCain and the Repuglicans voted with and for George Bush over 90% of the time, then it’s safe to assume neither John McCain nor the Repuglicans are the answer to America’s financial woes, the Repuglicans cannot solve this crisis they aided and abetted, they are not capable, and John McCain is not the best bet for president of these United States, he is incompetent!!! Vote Obama in November!

“McCain camp prays for Palin wedding -- The marriage of the vice-presidential candidate’s pregnant teenage daughter could lift a flagging campaign.” My God, John McCain will do anything to try to win an election!!!

It’s amazing how the Repuglicans make it sound so patriotic and for the good of one and all, when they seek to break the laws of the land and shred the Constitution of the United States of America! “Helping ‘people at home’ may become a permanent part of the active Army.” It seems the Repuglicans have forgotten one small yet very relevant detail, “…the deployment of federal troops within the states for use as domestic law enforcement has been prohibited…The Posse Comitatus Act is actually a United States federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1385) and was passed on June 16, 1878 after the end of Reconstruction.” Given the fact the Bush administration has been building “secret prisons” all across the US with the caveat provided by the KBR contractors, “…to support the rapid development of new programs…The contract may also provide migrant detention support to other government organizations in the event of an immigration emergency, as well as the development of a plan to react to a national emergency…” It leaves us wondering, what’s the big emergency now, just who is the enemy here, and what kind of coup are they planning for 2008????

Not surprising, “Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain square off, with no clear winner,” CNN’s political analysis differs from a poll CNN took right after the debate---“COOPER: And welcome back to this post-debate edition of ‘360.’ I want to show you we've just conducted a telephone poll at the CNN opinion research poll 524 adult Americans surveyed by the telephone. The first question: who did the best job in the debate; Obama, 51 percent, John McCain, 38 percent. The next question was, who would better handle Iraq, the answer to that Obama 52 percent to John McCain's 47 percent. And then the third question, who would better handle the economy, 58 percent for Obama, 37 percent of respondents said John McCain.” CNN as usual is in the business of attempting to change public opinion rather than objectively reporting the news! Clearly, at over 50% on each of the topics the people poll shows Obama won the debate! CNN is definitely NOT “the most trusted name in news”!!!
