Now I’m not sure how “retiring” from the House of Representatives works, but I do wonder if waiting until the end of the year affects that retirement? Is time of service important, does it have an effect on the final dollar amount, does it affect his benefits? Why is it Hastert decided to announce his retirement, but is waiting to actually retire? And it’s ludicrous that a Repuglican, the former “Speaker of the House,” has the audacity to mention “civility” in these days of Repuglican made and Repuglican supported “swift-boating, smear and slander”!

Regarding Mailbag: “United States of Stoopid” and “Pray for rain”: The real hypocrisy comes in knowing the weather forecast from the week before, forecast rain for Wednesday. Purdue scheduled his “prayer service” for Tuesday! The AJC noted on 11-13-07 … “But the National Weather Service said there was a fair chance that some light rain might fall in North Georgia on Wednesday,” and on the same day 11-13-07 the AOL article wrongly noted, “Meteorologists said earlier this week there was a slight possibility of rain Tuesday, but less of a chance of precipitation was predicted for the rest of the week.” The AJC was correct, the AOL wrong in their reporting -- the rain preceded a cold front which is normal for Georgia, and that weather information was broadcast on all the “nightly news” weather forecasts (I know because I heard it)! Repuglican Governor Perdue had to know about it when he scheduled that prayer service! Using God, miracles, and prayer to stage a political event is truly an abomination, but then this is a Repuglican and Repuglicans are known to do anything to try and gain a political advantage!

Actually greed and fear has overtaken our government and greed and fear is doing America in -- very few statesmen, or men and women of principle can be found in Washington D.C., no one to step up and speak out for the principles that guided this country for so many years. “Swiftboating” has become an acceptable Repuglican strategy for eliminating disagreement. Gone are the days of negotiation and compromise, gone are the days of civility in debate. The Repuglicans only believe in a “my way or the highway” system of cooperation. They believe in promoting fear within the electorate as a method of control, and control they must, if they are to maintain power. They must maintain power in order to feed their greed, corruption runs rampant in every aspect of governance these days. Freedom of the press has lost its true meaning; it has become nothing more than a conduit for promoting the propaganda that fuels the fear.

In an effort to try and justify abandoning their principles, we now hear from the radical right, that paragon of conservative values, Rich Lowry, “... about the changing nature of the Republican Party, and how social conservatives have ‘grown up’ in their willingness to accept a pro-choice candidate ... Giuliani represents stylistic continuity … He’s an urban cowboy …” I believe America has had enough of “pretend” cowboys! As for style, sorry Rich, Repuglicans, including Giuliani, have no class, no “compassion,” and no values, they will do anything to win, and that is not something to brag about! And just what is this bull about social conservatives “growing up”? Of course they’ve been self-indulgent, immature juveniles thus far and this little piece of propaganda shows the whole world conservatives really haven’t “grown up,” they’ve just abandoned their principles in an effort to win!

How dare you think you have the “moral authority” to try and influence my political vote! Too bad the “church” didn’t take eternal salvation and the souls of all those children into consideration when they ignored the horrendous acts of pedophilia taking place right under their noses! Too bad hell and damnation didn’t enter the picture then! No mention of what’s happening to the children entrusted to them, no documents warning the parents, no guidelines to follow back then and who knows about now? What exactly are the “church’s” teachings regarding molesting unsuspecting children, what exactly does the “church” have to say about covering up abuse? What about the “laws” that affect those who commit molestation and abuse of children, and those who hide it? Where was “prudence” when this was happening??? What were the “specific consequences” surrounding those dreadful acts? No, these guys were too busy poking their noses in politics, too busy hiding the horror! Do not stand before me now, do not presume to give me all that self-righteous babble, all that holier than thou attitude, don’t act as though you have the “moral authority” to tell me how to vote, not when you have taken part in hiding such hideous atrocities! No they have not “emerged” from that “sexual abuse” crisis, for that is a blight that will never go away! Just as ghastly as the “Inquisition,” so too is the horror of “priestly pedophilia”!

WOW and WOW again, someone, after mine own heart, finally correctly assesses Wolf Blitzer -- Matthew Yglesias noted: “Wolf Blitzer's main interest is in asking questions designed to put Democrats on the wrong side of public opinion ... The point, after all, is to force a choice -- piss off an interest group, or say something that could be used in a GOP attack ad ... Blitzer doesn't care about informing the public about the issues -- he actually objects when candidates try to explain their views on broad immigration policy issues -- he's just interested in trying to embarrass the candidates.” Wolf is a Weasel, a Bush suck-up, and it’s about time someone called him on it!

Hallelujah, no “telecom immunity” in the FISA bill coming out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. “... the version of the FISA bill that was just reported out of the Judiciary Committee does not -- repeat, does not -- contain retroactive immunity for the telecom companies.” And all due credit goes to, drum roll here, “Senator Patrick Leahy, the chair of the committee … moved to have a vote to report the bill out of committee without any telecom immunity in it. That passed along strictly party lines …” One small step for the people, one giant step for America! And now we’ll see just who is a statesman and those who aren’t, as the Senate debates this issue!

Democrats everywhere should be shouting from sea to shining sea, “If you support an illegal preemptive unnecessary war that has resulted in the deaths of more than 3865 American soldiers, you don’t support the troops.” “If you support torture and abuse, you don’t support the troops.” If you support George Bush, you don’t support the troops.” "If you choose to believe lies, you don’t support the troops.” “If you support the Repuglican Party, you don’t support the troops.” “If you don’t support IMPEACHMENT, you don’t support the troops.” “If you support the civil war in Iraq, you don’t support the troops,” and on and on and on!

“Contribute to the Alberto R. Gonzales Legal Expense Trust:” It’s amazing when a Repuglican is reduced to “panhandling” to pay for legal fees! I can see it now, various Repuglicans standing on street corners throughout this nation with a piece of cardboard inscribed with, “Will work for donations to the Gonzales legal relief fund,” or maybe more to the point and certainly less energetic, “Please help Alberto Gonzales with legal fees”! Come on, people, as one lawyer to another, representation should be pro-bono, but then these are Repuglicans looking for a buck whenever and wherever that almighty dollar can be found!
