BARBARA'S DAILY BUZZFLASH MINUTE

If mainstream corporate media, broadcast and cable news really want to know why they are dying, all they have to do is glance right!!! They provide no news that is "fair and balanced," no news that can be "trusted," it's become nothing but mind games designed to influence public opinion and enhance corporate profits! And here's some unsolicited advice to the major newspapers in this country, if you guys don't make some changes you too are in the last throes!!!

In a recent Gallup poll, "Bush scored a 31.8% approval rating." Now we know for sure there are at least 31.8% of Americans who are unquestionably as wacko as George Bush!

"Bush administration officials unveiled a bold new assertion of executive authority yesterday in the dispute over the firing of nine U.S. attorneys, saying that the Justice Department will never be allowed to pursue contempt charges initiated by Congress against White House officials once the president has invoked executive privilege." And some thought the Justice Department worked for the people of the United States of America! Congress better initiate impeachment proceedings before Bush issues an "executive order" annihilating the Constitutional impeachment clause! It's way past time to get rid of these wannabe despots! Certainly the Bush/Cheney actions offer a myriad of reasons why impeachment is a necessity! The first reason being our democracy is in peril!!!!

Proof positive that it's a myth to say George Bush cares about our troops, and all his tears and emotional made-for-television theater won't make it so! An already extended tour of duty in Iraq is being extended yet again! "July 19 (Reuters) - The Pentagon has extended the combat tours of 2,200 Marines in Iraq for 30 days, keeping the troops on the ground to help stabilize Anbar province, a Marine Corps spokesman said on Thursday ... some commanders have urged for more time beyond the September assessment."

Now that Bush needs to play the "fear" card again to continue his war in Iraq, you can forgettabout all those Al Qaeda high level commanders he claimed were killed, captured, and wiped off the face of the earth!!! "...'The Terrorist Threat to the U.S. Homeland,' described a resurgent al-Qaeda that has regrouped in remote sections of Pakistan while exploiting Muslim anger over the war in Iraq to increase its operational strength internationally and to take aim at American targets, again. 'We assess that al-Qaeda will continue to enhance its capabilities to attack the [U.S.] homeland through greater cooperation with regional terrorist groups,' the NIE said. 'Of note, we assess that al-Qaeda will probably seek to leverage the contacts and capabilities of al-Qaeda in Iraq [AQI], its most visible and capable affiliate and only one known to have expressed a desire to attack the [U.S.] homeland. In addition, we assess that its association with AQI helps al-Qaeda to energize the broader Sunni extremist community, raise resources, and to recruit and indoctrinate operatives, including for [U.S.] homeland attacks.'"

"JAMIE MCINTYRE, CNN SENIOR PENTAGON CORRESPONDENT: ... two things seem increasingly clear from today's developments. Congress is losing patience with the war, and the U.S. military has no plans to end the surge in September." Who in their right mind really believes Bush's hand-picked General Petraeus will tell the truth and give an honest assessment regarding Iraq come September???

"Gen. Petraeus is promised as the dramatic hero who will stride to triumph in the last act. The author of a recent study of counterinsurgency who has not previously fought such a war, he has been thrust into the spotlight partly because his halo is yet untarnished. ... In his July 12 press conference, Bush mentioned Petraeus 11 times, his name flourished as a talisman for 'victory.'" There is some question in my mind about that "untarnished halo." There was a note written as part of the last act in the life of a patriot, a soldier, addressed to his commanders, "Generals Petraeus and Fil" that said: "I didn't volunteer to support corrupt, money grubbing contractors, nor work for commanders only interested in themselves ... Reevaluate yourselves, cdrs [commanders]. You are not what you think you are and I know it."

I seem to remember some (tongue in cheek) "vague" connection between the Bush and bin Laden families!!! If I were a "conspiracy theorist" I'd really believe George Bush and Osama bin Laden are in cahoots!!! They both seem to need each other in order to maintain their personal power and financial status!!! Are they really arch enemies, or are they behind the scenes clandestine partners?
