Most days, these days, I am torn over which party to be more upset with, the Dumbacrats or the Repuglicans. But, when November rolls around and I have chose which chad to punch, I pick the least of evils and vote Democrat. Why? Well duh. If Al Gore had been sworn in a decade ago instead of the Bush, do you really believe we’d of invaded Iraq? Of course not. And do you think Gore would have given the rich a couple of trillion in tax cuts? No way. Imagine how much lower our federal deficit would be today if Gore had won instead of Bush. Remember that the next time some conservative starts spouting off about fiscal responsibility.

Which, by the way, is precisely why Republicans in Congress are in full “NO” mode. Every time over the past few decades when Democrats are in charge, and raise taxes on the rich, impose workplace health and safety laws and regulate financial services, things go swimmingly. Every time Republicans are in power, and slash taxes, slash regulation and slash workplace rules, we get quick bubble followed by a steep crash. The last thing Republicans want is yet another positive proof of concept of the progressive way of governance.

If Democrats succeed in repealing, or just letting expire, the Bush tax cuts at the end of this year, we’d be on the way to another progressive-led renaissance. Count on it. Another Democrat-led recovery, like we saw during the Clinton years, would prove to be the coup de grace for “supply-side” voodoo economics. Maybe that’s why the last round of Republican rule during the Bush years unleashed the most aggressive looting of America yet; those who benefit from Republican rule suspected it might be the last round of Viking-like looting allowed, at least until memories fade.

If Gore Were President Instead of Bush

Why? Well duh. If Al Gore had been sworn in a decade ago instead of the Bush, do you really believe we’d of invaded Iraq? Of course not. And do you think Gore would have given the rich a couple of trillion in tax cuts? No way.

And do you seriously think Gore would have survived his first year in office before being assassinated by some right-wing cabal and we'd be living under President Lieberman who would not only have invaded Iraq but Iran as well. Remember who Gore picked to be one heartbeat away from becoming the President. Gore clearly did not have the sound judgement required to be President even before we found out out he's been (allegedly) popositioning slightly long-in-the-tooth, Buffy referencing massage therapists. Ask how we would be different if Howard Dean hadn't been dirty tricked with the so-called "Dean Scream" but Gore? Still makes me glad a voted Nader.

Democrats are (mostly) corporate shills

No! They don't go "swimmingly". Democrats gave us NAFTA, GATT, and the WTO agreements that made our jobs go away.

After 8 years of Clinton, tuna fish STILL had unacceptable levels of mercury, and our lakes and rivers were STILL sewers.

Democrats allowed media consolidation, which later told us that Iraq was behind 9/11, Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, and the three skyscrapers weren't brought down by controlled demolition on 9/11.

Democrats continued the bloated military budget which wastes resources that could have been spent on improving our standard of living.

Democrats continue to let the insurance companies gouge us, and deny coverage whenever they could get away with it.

Democrats supported fascist judges on the Supreme Court (including a 100% senate Democrat vote for the fascist, Scalia).

Democrats allowed corporations to force-feed us inadequately-tested, genetically-modified frankenfoods, with no warning on the labels.

The Democrat party is financed by the same corporations that finance the Republicans, and they merely go through the motions of being an opposition party. They provide watered-down "reforms" that never significantly threaten corporate profits.

If you vote Democrat, you get more of the same!

Our only hope is to elect a party not controlled by the corporations: The Green Party!

5% of the vote will get the Green Party matching Federal funds, and will start to build a non-corporate alternative that represents CITIZENS' interests.

Damning the Democrats

It has become popular sport among progressives to complain bitterly about the inadequacies of the Obama administration. I am more than a little worried that this will lead to the re-emergence of a dominant GOP that will then renew the agenda that the Bush years illustrated.

This does not mean that I am happy with the current administration. I look at it and wonder whether for every three steps forward it is taking two steps back. Maybe for every three steps forward it is taking one step back, it's hard to tell. Whichever it is, this does not seem change we can believe in, but it is definately an improvement over the Bush administration which was always full-speed in reverse. There is nothing to suggest that a revitilized GOP would mean any improvement over putting the Bush people back in charge.

will just ensure more of the same. And if we are to get more of the same, anyway - I am going to vote Green or Independent or whatever else.

Yes, eliminating that tax break would start us back on recovery. But we are not meant to recover. Social security gets gutted next, I believe we will see Medicare gutted in preparaton of turning it over to private interests. And some will STILL say vote Dem so the Repubs won't get in.

They serve the same masters.
