A Tea Party in Wonderland: Lewis Carroll Meets Modern Day American Conservatism
JOE OF ARIZONALAND FOR BUZZFLASH
This is the story of those who drink the Conservative Tea ("DRINK ME"), the
kind that makes your brain small enough to fit down the rabbit hole.
Beyond the sleeping Dormouse, Michael Steele, you may see a sight to behold: dancers in bondage cheered by Young Republican Eaglets, or Tea Partying Caterpillars on mushrooms smoking hookahs.
If you follow the White Supremacist Rabbit a little further, you may run into the delusional mad Hatter, Glenn Beck, reciting his favorite nonsense.
Or the harpy-clawed Gryphon, Ann Coulter, trolling for easy prey.
Or the smiling Cheshire fat cat, Rush Limbaugh, disappearing after an overdose of Conservative Cake ("EAT ME").
Or the Dodo, George Bush, wondering where he went.
Or the sad Mock Turtle, Dick Cheney, hiding in an undisclosed location, afraid that one day he will be made into soup.
But most curious of all is the Quitter Queen of Hearts, Sarah Palin, who lost her tarts, and was seen shouting, "Off with their Heads! Off with their Heads! Don't Retreat. Reload!" as the Grand Old House of Cards collapsed.
But then our American Alice awakens and realizes that having this wacky pack of characters in charge of her land was just a bad dream.

I wish
I wish it were a bad dream! Instead, it's a waking nightmare.
To DemoGoddess, the
To DemoGoddess, the nightmare was 8 years of Bush, wasn't it? Not to worry, the conservatives have a nice circular firing squad going these days--so it's nice to hear they're not retreating, but instead reloading!
Bush II policies continue
Under Obama many of the policies begun under Bush II continue. Spying on citizens, presidential "war" powers which violate civil liberties, a health care law that is pretty much Republican policies but is opposed only because it was enacted under a Democrat. And to keep Democrats from becoming too bold we have the "mad" tea parties where racial epithets and spittal are hurled. Hate groups are popping up like the caterpillar's mushrooms and fear stalks the land armed and protected by Supreme Court rulings on the Second Amendment to the Constitution, effectively threatening the First Amendment to the Constitution with the cry, "We must not allow the pen to become mighter than the sword." You may believe that this makes the mad tea partiers look bad, but unfortunately their violent words have morphed into action, which will likely give courage to others to act. The reality of mostly right-of-center policies is lost on an enranged mob and they only become madder with each hour of FOX "News" they watch.
I'm still waiting for the Bush policies to end, but the mad-as-a-hatter militants think that America has become a communist/facist society where a minority is forcing European style socialist policies down their throats rather than insurance industry written weak health insurance regulation. Meanwhile a poll reports that 59% of Americans support going to war with Iran. How mad can you get?
I think you make some good
I think you make some good points. Progress can be frustratingly slow, and then sometimes we take a step or two backwards before finally move forwards. We will still almost certainly need the Public Option or a Medicare expansion at some point to control costs--just because we couldn't get it done in this law doesn't mean we never will. Take a breather, but get ready--that fight will come again, this ain't over by a long shot.
Just having Obama in office doesn't suddenly fix everything. On the other hand we haven't lost any American soldiers in Iraq in 3 months and we have a lot fewer troops in Iraq and they are handling most of their own security. Whereas McCain said we might be there for the next 50 or 100 years, and there's definitely a difference between him and Obama. And yes, Obama and others helped bail out banks and their CEOs that didn't deserve it, fearing that the system would collapse, which likely wasn't necessary--if Obama puts Wall Street ahead of Main Street again it will be up to progressives to call him out on that.
As far as the violent fringe elements on the right, if I were you, I would not be intimidated by these clowns--this is exactly what they want. They are a small minority but their plan is that if they yell and scream enough people will think that this is what mainstream Americans believe--and yes, they have Fox news to spout their extremist talking points. About Iran, I wouldn't I wouldn't worry too much about the numbers on the poll you cited--polls totally depend on how the question is worded. Americans want jobs and not a war in Iran. As far as the GOP, they went down in flames in 2008 and likely will again in 2012, especially considering the extremist Nattering Naybobs of Negativity that is today's Republican party. With no optimism, no vision, and extremist positions I believe they will be out of power for quite some while.
Here's hoping you're right
Here's hoping you're right about the GOP continuing to be out of power, and extremist plots being foiled before they come to fruition. :)
