Richard A. Stitt: George H.W. Bush Loves Vicious Dogs, Not Sick Puppies
BUZZFLASH GUEST COMMENTARY
by Richard A. Stitt
In an interview after President Barack Obama's visit to Texas A&M University campus, George H.W. Bush decried the incivility that he hears from both sides of the political spectrum. "I don't like it. The cables (TV) have a lot to do with it."
"The way they treat my son and anyone who's opposed to their point of view is just horrible," Mr. Bush said.
"When our son was president, they just hammered him mercilessly and I think obscenely a lot of the time and now it's moved to a new president," he added.
Having expressed his disgust with such name-calling and "merciless" criticism of his son, Bush the First wasted no time in launching into his own ad hominem attack, saying that he thought Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann are "sick puppies."
No doubt, today's level of personal attacks has escalated far beyond the days of Lee Atwater who, by today's hyperventilating media rants, was a piker.
On NBC's "Today," Jamie Gangel asked Rush Limbaugh how he felt about Sarah Palin and George W. Bush:
JAMIE GANGEL: Sarah Palin.
RUSH: I admire her. People have tried to destroy her. She's got more of a backbone than any man in the Democrat Party.
JAMIE GANGEL: George W. Bush.
RUSH: He's just the most decent, down-to-earth, real man you could ever hope to meet.
Gangel asked him about Glenn Beck: "Do you worry about the new guy on the block?
RUSH: No. In 1988, I'm the only national conservative voice. Now look at conservative media. Look what I have spawned. Glenn Beck to me is, "Right on, daddy-O!" Glenn Beck is the result of my success.
Bush 41 has every right to defend his son's performance, calamitous as it was to the majority of Americans. But, he doesn't have a right to whine and denigrate his son's critics as "sick puppies" when in fact the 2008 presidential campaign was the dirtiest, most racist, hate-filled, despicable display of character attacks we've ever experienced.
Sarah Palin's "backbone" consisted of calling Barack Obama every name in the book, accusing him of "palling around with terrorists" and wanting to "raise the white flag of surrender" to America's foes. It doesn't take any backbone or intelligence to spout verbatim the Rush Limbaugh venom and incendiary rhetoric that the Republican Party's sole aim and mission is to destroy Barack Obama, hurt our country, and subvert our democracy.
Limbaugh's reverence for the last president who left office as the most failed presidency in our history is as malignant as it is completely irrational. "The most decent, down-to-earth, real man you could ever hope to meet," left our country and the next administration with a collapsed economy; two failed wars, one in Afghanistan which he abandoned; the other in Iraq -- all because of a WMD fabrication against a broken country that had absolutely nothing to do with America's interests or security.
There is nothing "decent" or "down-to-earth" about such a sinister, invidious, calumnious individual, the perverse Rush Limbaugh or the depraved Republican Party they represent. Who but the most traitorous and unpatriotic people would hope and pray for our president and our country to fail? The entire Republican Party, that's who.
Though George H.W. Bush may deplore the vicious, toxic tone that our political discourse has taken in recent years he, Bush 43 and the Republican Party are the ones who decided to sic the wild dogs on any opponent or any person who had the trepidation to challenge them on their own turf.
It is the reprobate Republican Party who nurtured and bred the diseased, worm-infested packs of predators that have become savage attack dogs in their quest to pull themselves down into the bowels of Hell. Maybe "sick puppies," such as Limbaugh's spawn of Glenn Beck, are the inevitable offspring of a vicious unrestrained party that has no ethical bounds or morals as long as they can achieve their diabolical ends.
Democrats finally got back into the game in 2008. They know where the wild things are and how they feed.

"To be damned by the devil is to be truly blessed"
Keith and Rachel should consider this a badge of honor. They're American heroes. They've finally given the American Left a voice in TV news.
Bush's muddled thinking equates the razor-sharp truth of Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow with the unending lies and obfuscation of the right-wing propagandists.
I watch Rachel Maddow's news program each day. This is something I never did when the only news we had was corporate lies, like "Iraq was behind 9/11", or "Iraq has WMDs", or "People who question the Dick Cheney version of 9/11 are 'conspiracy theorists'".
It's ABOUT TIME someone mentioned Bush Sr.'s whining!!
Wow. Thanks to Buzzflash & Richard for that... it's about time someone CALLED OUT George H.W. Bush for the WHINING, ENTITLED, crybaby hypocrite that he is!
Mr. Bush is oblivious to the fact that MILLIONAIRES like him and his sons HAVE ACCESS to the corporate media, and can get their POV out there.
ALL of us MILLIONS of "liberals" and Democratic voters who voted AGAINST the Bush-Cheney duo in 2000, have VERY FEW media outlets we can turn to, and Rachel Maddow & Keith Olbermann's MNSBC shows are two of the few - and they are ONLY available on cable.
BOTH Jebby & Bushie HAD AMERICANS ARRESTED for... wearing t-shirts! http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x54877#
and set up "FREE SPEECH ZONES" - in BARBED-WIRE prison-like holding areas!
The Bush brothers WORKED to STEAL election 2000.. and, talk about "incivility," they SNEERED at THE ELECTORAL MAJORITY of Americans who voted for Gore, as "SORE LOSERS" !!
They both LOOTED their respective states' treasuries, and Heckuva Job Bushie took a ONE MONTH VACATION, doing NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING to make the 9-11 hijackers' terror attack more difficult before they struck on 9-11-2001.
Bush and his sons are all ARCHITECTS and BENEFICIARIES of "incivility" bordering on inciting domestic terror and government repression... and there ol' Bush Senior is, CRYING about the dogs of incivility that he has let loose!
It's really a shame someone can't SLAP some sense into the former president, for having the gall to whine about "incivility" after all he and his sons have put THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS through with their lies, deceit, stolen elections, lies-to-war, looted treasuries, vast war corruption, New Orleans criminal negligence, and other assorted cruelties.
Actually, Bush 1 has the right
to denigrate his liberal critics, a classic case of first amendment protection. They have the right to respond to and make a fool of him, which is exactly what they have done. I'm just grateful he targeted people with platforms, tho why would he bother with anyone else.
The Upper Class no longer
The Upper Class no longer controls the political movement it created, which has become very bad for business. George Bush is a pathetic fool who can't say what is really on his mind, he never could voice his true authoritarian aristrocratic beliefs - now he cant say moderate things like Republicans please act like adults. Own what you did, Brilliant CIA Conservative.
GHW Bush is a bloody-minded, murderous motherfucker
a traitor, and a vile, despicable, vicious prick.
Don't Hold Back!
Tell us how you really feel!
One thing I would ask Poppy: why don't you remember where you were (he was in Texas "somewhere") on November 22, 1963?
