Dee Evans: The Media Goes Mad -- Literally -- Over Obama Prize
BUZZFLASH GUEST COMMENTARY
by Dee Evans
I awoke this morning and couldn't believe my ears. That President Obama had won the Nobel Peace Prize? No. That on almost every news channel that I turned to, all I heard was people who call themselves professional "news" people ranting and raving about how did this happen and how Obama didn't deserve it.
This is so funny. When people try to argue that President Obama needs adequate time to successfully achieve results from his policy changes, everyone on the right and in the media chimes in, "Well, he's been in office for 10 MONTHS." Then when President Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize, everyone on the right and in the media chimes in, "Well, he's only been in office for 10 MONTHS." How hypocritical.
Now, I expect this kind of non-thinking, partisan rhetoric coming from many in the right-wing party (they just don't know any better). But I expect a lot more from the media... although I increasingly don't know why.
This is an honor for any American and the media did not even stop for 60 seconds to say what an honor it was for the President of our country to receive it before they started bashing him for receiving it. This is NOT an American honor (there is no Right and Left in this process), this is a global honor and while many in the media only want to find fault in the process, many of us who truly love our country only want to find joy in the meaning.
Just think, there was a time when the words, "The President of the United States has won the Nobel Peace Prize" would make Americans happy and result in a sense of pride. Now, in the age of constant criticism and cynicism, it only makes some skeptical, bitter, and angry. Only in America can a leader winning the Nobel Peace Prize be a bad thing. As an American, that truly makes me sad.
President Obama did not nominate himself for this nor did he lobby for it. It is an honor that was (unanimously, I might add) bestowed upon him by other global leaders and I think we all need to step back, take a deep breath and reflect on what it truly means for the leader of OUR country to be thought of in such a way rather than turning something so humbling into a political free-for-all.
It's truly a sad state of affairs when people in other countries respect and value a leader more than the people in his own country. How far we've truly fallen when even the happy things make us mad.

Imperial Policy
Obama has returned the U.S. to a foreign policy of more carrot and less stick. I do not doubt but the whole world has breated a collective sight of relief over just that. Furthermore, unlike his predecessor, it is obvious that he doesn't actually want to kill people. It's the difference between Augustus and Caligula.
He's better than us
He's just better than us. The rest of the world can see it. When most people in other countries pick Homer Simpson as the image they hold of most Americans, it's painfully obvious. We're lucky he's even President of us! Now leave him alone, you bastards! (ha ha). Pcych! I rejoice that he's my president, and I rejoice that I helped elect him. We should give ourselves props, and we should let the whining babies who miss their loser ex-president and war criminal cry all they want. Time to move on.
I'll Live With The Award
I admit to being very surprised that Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize as I tend to agree with those who question whether or not it was deserved. Ramping up the war in Afghanistan and expanding it into Pakistan while remaining armed and dangerous in Iraq, threatening Iran with nuclear attack, and selling nuclear reactors to India for atomic weapons production despite a public stance against proliferation hardly rate as qualifying attributes.
But the best insight I've seen or heard so far to allow me to accept the validity of the award comes from a Brit on the BBC News comment page this morning. He said that the world awarded Obama the Peace Prize because he was NOT George W Bush. It has to be an expression by the Nobel committee against the rising war armament across the globe, largely in response to Bush's outrageous war-mongering "policies". Obama might be seen by them as open to not mindlessly racing toward global war. That could certainly be seen as a peaceful move.
QED
He threatened Iran ...
... with nuclear attack?
Yes - Nuclear Attack
Yes, nuclear attack - from Israel. Only by keeping the Israeli bulldog on the short leash is Iran interested in alternative means of defusing the crisis. When Teheran balks, the leash chain is slackened, and the bulldog growls. It "worked" at Abu Ghraib, so it would work internationally, right?
Wonderful that we didnt get
Wonderful that we didnt get the Olympics - Horrible that we got the Nobel Prize. F--- Conservatices, F--- those who still want to get along with Conservatives.
Oh please, ...
No one (except the far right) would be "complaining" about Obama being given the Nobel Peace prize if it was even arguably deserved. We should just cheer for him, be proud of "the leader of OUR country" and "find joy in the meaning" of the award, when he's done nothing to deserve it? Too funny.
Hey, ..... just out of curiousity, ..... if you woke up this morning and heard the Nobel committee had given the Peace prize to George W. Bush, ..... would you still be making the same argument?
They don't give Nobel Peace Prizes to WAR CRIMINALS
Your argument is utter nonsense. Bush lied to start an illegal, immoral, imperialist, genocidal war OF terror, killed over one million innocent Iraqis and completely destroyed their country and civilization, so war profiteers like Halliburton could steal Iraqi oil and U.S. tax dollars.
The only award Bush should receive for his efforts to become the greatest war criminal of our time, is a short stay in a prison cell before his short dance at the end of a short rope.
And for an encore dance, next up would be dick Cheney.
(After their fair trials, of course!)
Seriously?
Uhhhhm, ... I wasn't suggesting GWB should actaully get a Nobel Peace Prize, Kevvy. To the contrary, I think Bush must be investigated and (likely) prosecuted for what he's done. I was pointing out that the author's appeal to "patriotism" (i.e. we should "be proud of the leader of OUR country", blah, blah, blah ....) as an argument for quelling criticism of Obama's NPP is seriously flawed.
C'mon Kevvy, ...... basic logic, ....... it's not really that hard.
You're SO Predictable, YTwerp
Soon as I heard Buzzflash awarded Obama the Nobel Peace Prize, I said to myself, "I'll BET that closet racist punk Hillaryinista YPuke is SHRIEKING in rage right now!"
Got it in one...
Why is it the Obot dupes ....
.... never get sick of dragging out the tired, old, race card?
"Rage"? Are you serious?!?! Hell, no! Laughter, in fact .... and a lot of it. The whole news cycle has been like a non-stop edition of the Onion. Seriously, have you seen the headlines? Not just the rightwing nuts, but all over the MSM and even the left. I could post a bunch of them for ya, but you'll be seeing enough of them on your own for the next few weeks. The best part is, when we're still mired in Afghanistan and there's (a minimum) of 50,000 troops in Iraq at the end of next summer, we'll get to rub it in the faces of all the worshipers (like yourself) who couldn't stop praising the candidate of "peace", and now Nobel "At-Least-You're-Not-Bush" Prize winner (snicker).
BTW - "Doc", How's that whole "Hope" thing workin' out for ya? You've been so quiet since the election, it's almost like you're embarrassed about something ......
Heh, heh, heh ....
BBTW - You hear the President has recieved the Nobel Peace Prize and your first thoughts are of me? Huh, .....
.... that's a little weird, don'tcha think, "Doc"? If I ever gave a half-second's thought to you 9apart from when I'm reading one of your "The Racist Sky is Falling!" diatribes), I'd be a little concerned, ......
....... depressed, even.
BTW
Did you notice the reaction of the Norwegian reporters when they announced that Obama had won? Pretty funny, .....
..... and telling.
Funny Thing...
...on no news story across several channels did I hear any booing going on during the announcement. So either all of the networks bashing Obama agreed not to add to the arsenal, or someone did an audio Photoshop to add booing into the mix. What would Occam's Razor say?
No one "did an audio Photoshop" to add booing, ....
.... but it was more audible in some broadcast compared to others. Here's on from MSNBC, hardly an "Obama-bashing network".
Maybe they know
Maybe they know something we don't.
Like WHAT?
They know he's going to accomplish great things in the quest for world peace before he even does anything?
Wow, ......
..... they ARE good .......
