Dead Rattlesnakes Do Bite

Well the republicans have gotten out front on Obama's stimulus plan and it appears the Senate will not be passing the bill. So what else is new?

When I was a kid, adult men told us that a dead rattlesnake could kill us if its fangs somehow scratched our skin. That scenario fits republicans to a tee. They may be dead, but they continue to be potent in obscure ways.

They are getting on camera as often as possible claiming that there is pork in the stimulus plan. Have the democrats pushed in front of news cameras to tell Americans that only 1% of all of the stimulus money is geared toward improvements that are not absolutely vital to the economy right now? No! They just let the obstructionists romp all over them. Now there is talk of the republicans adding an amendment to the bill to strike that 1%. Democrats with backbones need to beat the obstructionists to the punch and offer the amendment first.

When are the democrats going to realize they won and stop trying for the Mr. Congeniality award? If there is pork in the bill, democrats need to take it out.

Then we have three of Obama's appointments questioned for financial problems. Questioned by who? All I can say about that is the republicans seem extra quiet on that subject. Now two of the appointee sharp shooters are going back home with their tails between their legs ... same old ... same old.

The rattlesnakes may be dead, but they still have enough potent venom in their fangs to kill the progress democrats hoped to make. Obama has been president for only 15 days and dead rattlesnakes are intimidating him. Expose them for what they are, Mr. President ... it is the only way to beat them at their own game.

The Democrats should offer not one single amendment to the stimulus bill demanded by Republicans, nor should they allow the Republicans to make any. Furthermore, they should replace those sections removed at Republican insistence in the House. It is time to let the Republicans know, in no uncertain terms, that they do not control Congress and that their obstructionism will not be tolerated. You kill a snake by stepping on its head, not its tail, unless you want to get bitten.

Obama & Dems Have a Marketing Problem

President Obama and the Dems are losing the marketing war with repubs, that's why these snakes aren't dead in the water just yet.



Thom Hartmann today said every time they get a chance to come on cable news show (already at a disadvantage since the "liberal media" have awakened from their 8-year slumber during their Bush&Co years and are dusting off their hard-knuckle playbook left over from their "reporting" during the Clinton years), they need to call the economic recovery and reinvestment bill THE AMERICA BACK TO WORK bill, calling it THE JOBS BILL. This is something Americans can understand.



The "stimulus bill" sounds too much like the TARP bill and many Americans have come to hate it while the repubs are ingeniously conflating the two, confusing Americans by the hundreds of thousands.



It's not too late, but they better get their arses in gear quick and do strong marketing if ever we want to get it through congress.

Put The Shoe On The Other Foot

Put the GOP on the spot and have them introduce stimulus legislation. Then the Dems can play the same game, pointing out the pork and waste (more bank bailouts, larger tax cuts). We know, however, this isn't going to happen - sadly - as the Dems are proof that the Repubs were right about them: no balls. If they had any, they would be dominating the media coverage and not being targeted by it.

Stopped Clocks

The Republicans are stopped clocks, but even stopped clocks are sometimes right.

The purpose of the Bush-Obama bailout bills was to reward billionaire Wall Street gamblers. The purpose of the Stimulus bill was to stimulate the CEOs of large corporations. Only a tiny fraction of the stimulus would trickle down to working taxpayers, but we would have to pay for all of it. We're actually much better off without it.

Obama needs a trickle-up stimulus package. The best way to start is with extended unemployment benefits and a 50% federal subsidy on non-luxury food items. There should also be prosecutions of those responsible for rigging food prices.

Obama's wealthy advisors tell him he must give handouts to the wealthy. If Obama doesn't get a clue - if he doesn't can his lame advisors in the next week or two - he will soon set a new record as the first president worse than Dubya.

How ya doin Prodny old fella? Shame about all them working stiffs who lost their homes and their pensions but I guess you gamblers got your annual seven figure bonuses anyway!

I gotta say that was a neat move the way you Wall Street boys bought that African-American candidate. You fooled pretty much everybody. Laugh? Damn near pissed m'self. Almost as good as the time you bought that ivy league fratboy who thought he was a cowboy.
