CPAC, Limbaugh, and other horror stories from the crypt

THE FIFTH COLUMNIST by P.M. Carpenter

One of the many pleasant aftereffects of ultraconservatism's crackup is the retirement of a civic need for appalled spectators to demonize its out-patient disciples -- or whacko-ize them, if you will -- because they're doing such a marvelous job of it all by themselves.

I mean, what additional diagnosis or prognosis is required when, for instance, the far right gathers with such convenient tidiness at events like CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, and puts on pitiable display not only a wholesale absence of serious public policy, but a virtual 24/7 unraveling of whatever slim dignity it once strove to possess.

When even goddess-of-the-right Sarah Palin declines an appearance -- she suspects her old pals now have the cooties, I guess, plus she's too busy cramming for her 2012 finals, uncomprehendingly digesting copious past issues of Foreign Policy and Time for Kids -- then one knows the heavy black curtains are being lugubriously drawn.

"Man, this CPAC thing is crazy," observed Mr. Samuel Wurzelbacher, a.k.a. Joe the Plumber, to fellow attendee Mike Huckabee -- and that's probably the sanest thing we'll ever hear Sam/Joe utter. With concise but tragically fleeting lucidity, he captured the moment, the spirit, the zeitgeisty degeneration of his semi-philosophical compadres.

Sam/Joe Wurzelbacher/Plumber was, as the Politico reported, "a headliner at a Thursday panel titled 'Conservatism 2.0.' " A headliner, mind you: an itinerant, breathtakingly clueless bullshitter was a CPAC-Chosen One to enlighten the multitudes on the fundamentals of conservatism. Breathtaking indeed.

Also on Thursday there were book signings by the still-unnetted Ann Coulter -- just the name chills for itself -- and the vastly disingenuous David Horowitz. (I once heard David say in an interview that college professors lead a carefree, easy life of leisure with phenomenal pay; oh, they give occasional lectures, but that's pretty much the burden of their existence. A few months later, in another interview that touched on why there are so few female professors in the sciences, I heard him say it's because women don't care to suffer the grueling schedules and demands of a college professorship. This is a man who makes his living by deriding the intellectual honesty of higher-education sorts.)

So that was Thursday but today, of course, is Saturday, which brings us -- or, rather, just them, thankfully -- to CPAC's bookended finale of ... Rush Limbaugh, scheduled to bellow and bray at 5:00pm EST, then -- get this -- receive at 5:30 the "Defender of the Constitution Award." (America's Constitution?)

Just now I ventured over to rushlimbaugh.com to take an intrepid peek at how this deep Conscience of Conservatism might be previewing his upcoming performance. Here's what I found, here's what is on Rush's Web site, here's what is weighing on the profound mind of Mr. Limbaugh in these profoundest of deeply troubled times:

You know, Clint Eastwood had it right, Clint Eastwood said he's fed up with political correctness. He's fed up with everybody trying to be politically correct. He's fed up with nobody being able to laugh anymore. He's fed up with not being able to tell race jokes and ethnic jokes. When he was growing up, everybody did. Nobody took offense at it. Every race tells jokes about the other race. Every country tells jokes about people in other countries. We can't do it anymore.

I gather, however, that Rush will this evening. But pause just a moment and consider what topic -- from all the topics available to choose from in these, as noted, horrifically troubled times -- Mr. Limbaugh chose with which to preview his speech: race jokes.

That kind of says it all, doesn't it? It pinpoints and broadcasts just how utterly adrift and altogether irrelevant movement conservatism has become.

But don't take my word for it, commie-pinko unAmerican rabble-rouser that I surely am in the seething, delirious, Rush-possessed eyes of the far right. You might, however, try on for size, say, John Derbyshire, a National Review contributing editor writing this (suspiciously) for The American Conservative:

Why have we allowed carny barkers to run away with the Right?...

Did the Limbaughs, Hannitys, Savages, and Ingrahams lead us to this sorry state of affairs? They surely did. At the very least, by yoking themselves to the clueless George W. Bush and his free-spending administration, they helped create the great debt bubble that has now burst so spectacularly....

In place of the permanent things, we get Happy Meal conservatism: cheap, childish, familiar. Gone are the internal tensions, the thought-provoking paradoxes, the ideological uneasiness that marked the early Right.

But however much this dumbing down has damaged the conservative brand, it appeals to millions of Americans....

If conservatism is to have a future ... it will need to listen to more than the looped tape of lowbrow talk radio.

As spotlighted this evening before the huddled, fawning and lowbrow masses of CPAC.

A Mr. Derbyshire I can respect, I can debate, I can even empathize with, in many a Burkean way. A Mr. Limbaugh I can only laugh at -- and marvel at the irrelevantly silly depths to which he and his fellow carny barkers have dragged modern conservatism. 'Tis a pity, because modern liberalism needs a worthy opponent if it's to maintain its own mental health.

"All truth passes through

"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." -A Schopenhauer. Anyone who's seen FOX has seen how anyone stating the truth in the GOP years(I don't say Bush years because like Reagan he was a puppet,a shill) was mocked and labeled a traitor and a fool. Now after their massive faliure they are angry and are going to just say NO! (From the makers of the 'War on drugs'...the'War on reality') All our problems were caused by the now evil prince G. and the GOP was just a poor patsy who was duped by this big spending mastermind. If it wasn't so sad I'd die laughing. Instead now unemployed and my insurance gone my wife, mother in law, cat and myself will likly end up dying on the street. Let's hope they get seeing the self-enident before they lay waste to America and the rest of the world.

Rush Hour

Injury, death, rage and destruction. Same could be said about I-5

Think! Remember!

For anyone on the Right think about this and remember - 1. Forget all of former president Bill Clinton's faults (and they are MANY) and remember only ONE thing: when he left office he and his administration had not only balanced the budget but left a surplus for the incoming Republican president, who turned it, along with a Republican House and Senate and his administration, into this Nation's worst deficit in history. 2. The vitriol that has been lashed at President Obama (I have seen people of stature call him "Hitler" "The Anti-Christ" and "a Communist" [This from no less than Conservative Republican Alan Keyes]) WILL come back to haunt the Republicans. 3. Your voices were demonstratively silent when your own party leader, former president George W. Bush, and the Conservatives in and around his administration encouraged and allowed deregulation time and time again; pushing his radical conservative agenda forward to the point where banks ran wild and caused the current recession/depression for which We The People now, and for generations to come, will find ourselves to be paying. Your voices were THEN again silent when his congressionally unapproved and unregulated handout of tens of Billions of taxpayer dollars went blindly to the banks that had caused the firestorm in the first place. For those on the Left think about this and remember _ 1. The Rush's, Hannity's, Coulter's, et al are merely "Bread and Circus'" for the "rubes" to keep the spotlight off the real issues and to keep the "rabble" roused. (And I mean this as no offense to the American public but as an indictment against the Conservative "talking heads and voices" that dominate the poor excuse for discourse seen in the public arena. The true power lies and works silently behind the scenes.) 2. The Neo-Conservative agenda has not gone away. They came as close as this nation has ever come to subverting the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They have all the time in the world to rise again Phoenix-like from their own ashes. 3. President John F. Kennedy: "They price of Freedom is eternal Vigilance". If even ONE person on the Left believes that the Right is incorrect in what they have done and feel complacent about the Democrats being the Majority Party - you are fools. To succeed you must ALWAYS look down the road, have a clear vision and work to make that vision happen. If you do not, you will see, again, a house not just divided, but torn from your political body and delivered on a silver plate, as John's head was delivered to the King, to you adversaries on the Right.

cpac

You're just another liberal asshole.

Please clarify.

Some liberals are assholes, and need to have the adjective. All conservatives are assholes, and can just be called conservative.

Anonymous and...

foul mouthed - typical "conservative".

Its true!!!

You liberals really can't think straight. You are totally wrong about republicans. We only elected Bush because Kerry was a fright. We hated Bush and wanted something else. But Kerry was and is a wacko. Now we have Obama spending us into the poor house. You demo's have ruined California tooo! The give away state, come here for gov hand outs. But only if you are from some other country. We are doomed and Obama is taking us there!!

And once you realized what a nightmare Bush and Cheney...

...were, why did you not take steps to stop them? Anonymous again, I see...

Demos ruined California?

Isn't the Governator a ""Republican""?? Whose has """VETO POWER""" over crazy spending bills?

Now THAT'S funny -As if

Now THAT'S funny -As if everyone on earth didn't know that Arnold could only be considered conservative in California. Actual conservatives pretty much have always considered him a flaming lib. Yoo bad about California -only modern liberalism could so thoroughly bankrupt a state that has so much income and income potential.

False-Flag "Conservative" Radio Hosts

Taking a quote from James Arthur's new book: They are neoconservatives who have rewritten the definition of conservatism just as they are attempting to rewrite history. They daily defend the indefensible actions of our leaders, both here and abroad. We are daily insulted by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, “sitting on both halves of his brain, just to make it fair;” stinking up the airwaves with his vocal flatulence; Sean Hannity whose nose and his mind have been irreparably crushed by their proximity to Rush’s brain cushion; Bill O’Reilly who is well known for taking matters into his own hand while blowviating (his word, not mine) into a microphone; Michael Medved, the professional lap dog, movie critic, expert on everything and Christian Rabbi; Mark Davis, voted most likely to impress himself with his pseudo-intellect and vocal corduroy suaveness. What a lineup. The only thing missing is a police Sergeant telling them to turn to the left (sorry I meant right) so they might more readily be identified as the provocateurs they are. None of these self-professed conservatives would recognize a true conservative if they met one. Their inflammatory rhetoric does not in any way resemble conservative debate, nor do their ideals have anything in common with conservative values. Our government has long appreciated the practice of creating their own enemies to further their own agenda. Having antagonists that bleat divisive hate-speech each day merely drives more people to the other side. There really is no other side...they are all the same.

It's obvious from your

It's obvious from your comments you are a product of the 60's, the acid or hemp smoking have killed your brain cells...please do not have any children. Your DNA is probably mutated...Retire to San Francisco and take a long walk off a short pier before lunch.

It's obvious from your...

Wow, finally, an intelligent and well-reasoned conservative viewpoint -- William F. Buckley would be proud!

Bags of smug

Seems to me these guys are desperate. What an insult to the good folks of America, Joe the plumber, I mean . . . God help em when Americans wise up, and they will. Remember you heard it from this X pat first. Bellowing bags of smug will eventually get what's coming to em.

Involute mirage

George"This is a scripted.."Bush is going to visit Canada in a couple weeks. No doubt the little shithead is only coming over here to close new deals with the rightwing conservatives of Western Canada that are heavily organized by the corporate-cultists who control our oilsands (they want all of our resources). There will be mass protests waiting for George , because most Canadians hate the Conservative commie and and everything that George represents.

roger that

Would to God Canadians do what you say and join in mass protests over that bloody murderer, Bush.

Pointless

"But pause just a moment and consider what topic -- from all the topics available to choose from in these, as noted, horrifically troubled times -- Mr. Limbaugh chose with which to preview his speech: race jokes." Yes, the horrible Mr. Limbaugh. At a time when Americans no longer, by virtue of their birth, have the right to consume vastly more than most others on the planet (and it's not like people are starving or dieing), Mr. Limbaugh is focusing on our non-materialistic, idealistic constitutional right to free speech. The horror of it all! That's not how a good Communist should think! Unnecessary material things are more important than those stupid rights - who needs free speech, anyway, for crying out loud! What we need is iPods from China! And plasma TVs! And huge SUVs to drive huge distances, one person per car! And huge homes for everyone! And enough food so we can throw half away but still be obese! This is our God-given right, damn it, not this stupid free speech stuff Limgaugh is talking about. Seriously: in a time of growing government power and the rise of fascism worldwide, he picked a perfect topic to speak on - the diminishment of individual rights. Granted the Repugs did a lot to destroy individual liberties on their watch, from the PATRIOT Act to torture to arrest without charges to indefinite detention without charges to suspension of habeous corpus, etc. - but hypocrisy is not the point you were making. Plus in his long speech he addressed many topics, including the economy (actually he started out with that, not that your readers would know, as you seem to relish in spreading FUD).

Limbaugh makes his living

Limbaugh makes his living talking. His concern is for his own right to spout verbal garbage...it is a selfish act. Don't be fooled into making him a defending hero of the constitution. Heroes are NOT self-serving! Try calling into his show with a dissenting point of view and see how quickly he defends your right to free speech.

LIMBAUGH

LIMBAUGH is a propagandist. Propaganda may be legal, but it can be worse than what a serial killer does, since misleading statements can lead to war and killing, like what Goebbels did. Our society does not explain how and why propaganda works, which reminds me of the fact that psychology textbooks do not use the primary definition of "delusion" and instead use only its pathological meaning. Its so-called "pathological" definition is a false definition anyway, since delusion is generally normal and not pathological.

So What?

That misses the point. If I am a doctor and save someone's life, is it bad that I am doing it because I am paid? Since in that case you better not see a doctor in the US! They all do it for the money (well, almost all, a few work for free in clinics but most would let you die rather than raise a hand without being paid). The bigger critique of Limbaugh is he is a hypocrite, inconsistent, highly partisan, etc. In fact, I (and I made the "Pointless" post) despise Limbaugh, don't listen to him, and only heard parts of his speech by coincidence. However, none of that changes that the critique of his speech was way off base. Even if he is wrong 90% of the time, I can applaud the 10% of the time he is right. And in defending free speech against liberal attacks of political correctness (witness Bishop Williams and others - all he said is he disagrees about what happened in history, and people want his head, and certainly want him in jail), he was dead on right. Criticize Limbaugh or your other political "enemies" for many things, but NOT for defending free speech!

Seems to me...

...that, if he was defending free speech, he could have focused on a more important example of it than race jokes.

What is this? Mind Vomit for the Masses?

The entirety of this piece is nothing but a rambling assault based on incomplete truths and an obvious bias towards socialism. No, I'm not really big into talk radio and all that, but I've heard them. and if you think the American people are stupid enough to buy into these sorts of ridiculously biased and transparent attacks I think you may be in for a surprise. People listen to people like Rush and Hannity because a large segment of this country realizes that the Constitution is only a scant 10 page document. There is only so much you can fit into 10 pages, and you loony left wing fanatics wish to completely change or even abolish it to pursue your socialist agenda. I wonder what percentage of the Democrat Party even realizes that socialism is the ultimate end of their agenda. I know for a fact at least most of the people at the top get it. You are creating more Rush fans. The more your type try to seize power from the people in order to give it to the government so that the government can seize more money from the people for purposes of central government social planning projects, the more people are going to start waking up to the fact that this is affecting them personally. A lot of places that were traditionally red went blue this time -swing voters that wanted to give Professor Change a chance -are middle and upper middle classers in the suburbs. Now that he has proclaimed directly that he plans to financially rape them in order to pay for his insanely wide and varying expansions of government control, they will vote with their wallet next time (and likely in 2010 as well). You people have no idea what conservatism even is! You drone on and on about individuals (indeed, even from the vaunted and hallowed halls of our highest legislature you attack individual private citizens for their ideological disagreements with you), and yet it is so rare that you ever address the actual platform of conservatism that even a semi-intelligent passer-by has to assume that you know little to nothing of it. At any rate, I now have received exactly what I have wanted for a long time -the insanely ideological (dare I say dogmatic?)of the left-wing party has taken over both the executive and legislative branches. It didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would for them to run everything into the ground. After 2 years of this "trillion dollars here, trillion dollars there" approach to governing, I think it is entirely possible that the Democrat Party will cease to exist as any sort of threat to that fragile 10 page document that we rely on to keep order in our (so far) free society. Maybe you all should actually read the Constitution some time. If you did, and you have the comprehension of at least a 10 or 12 year old child, then there is no possible way you can Constitutionally justify 90 percent of what the radical left is now inflicting on this country. But none of that matters. After you have finished destroying the economy and have been deservedly discarded, someone will have to come in an clean up the mess you've made of everything. Even sane systems of government need the occasional insanity to remind it of itself. You and your ilk are that insanity, though you like to think of yourselves as the change we've all been waiting for. In the end you will see -you are not revolutionaries -you're Jimmy Carter. When this country gets a taste of what you people really are all about we spit you out for 20 years or so. You'll be back on the fringes in no time.

Conservative commies

Wake up! There is no left or right anymore. It's a ruse of good cop bad cop. The article said it best. "Conservative commmies" And pumpkinhead limbaugh is one of the worst purveyors of this false left right paradighm.

Here's a fresh idea commie -

Here's a fresh idea commie - tax cuts! Only someone intent on destroying the economy would promote trillion dollar tax hikes on the producers of this country. Your president Hussein Obama is a fascist and will destroy this country. Not to worry though, we will have a massive GOP takeover in 2010 and President Palin to destroy all that Hussein was able to get enacted.

president palin 2012

you moran. she is the biggest moran of them all. what is your name Joe The Plumer????

Hussein?

"Your president"? America elected Obama by a clear majority. America, love it or leave it. Bye-bye! Do you drive a Pearl Harbor or Nazi car?

Joke

Surely you jest. But methinks you need a little more practice in the art of humor. This sounds amateurish, disjointed, confused, meandering.

I find nothing funny about

I find nothing funny about this amateurish president and administration and their fascist ideas.

Back to what?

When was this glorious past you are talking about? The Reagan years??? Your diatribe is as empty and out of tune as your politics. What are your solutions to the economic crisis brought on by the hyper capitalistic/corrupt policies supported by republicans. I would respect your conservatism if it had one fresh idea to get us out of this mess. You are the politics of old - even the founding fathers are younger than your ideas. But keep talking - all the better for liberals.

Rush Limbaugh

So the far right conservatives have 'their' Rush. We liberals have George Clooney! Put that in your pipe and smoke it, you folks who love the fat, drug addicted fool who carries buckets of Viagra around with him! I can't imagine what the Viagra is for, can you?

CPAC

Listening to Rush Limbaught on CNN today it was amazing to see his disconnect between out financial crisis and his conservative policies of the past eight years. His battlecry to go back to the good old days and do everything possible to oppose any policies Obama puts forth to help the people of our country. His motto seems to be "Each man for himself", the rest be dammed.

Clarification & some useful definations

This is a comment that invites some constructive clarification. First, Bush was not a conservative; he was simply a pragmatic politician. He had no qualms about making the government bigger and more intrusive. But there is a BIG difference between Bush’s expansionist policies and those of Obama’s: Bush’s policies involving national security are temporary, while Obama’s are intended to build large dependency classes (health and welfare) that not only will be very expensive, but will never likely go away (i.e., a socialist state). Perhaps some contrasting definitions will help: For conservatives, there is no ruling class so that everyone is free to pursue their destiny on a free market basis. Liberals are naturally divided into two groups, the smaller elitist ruling class and the larger dependence classes all of whom are concerned about getting ‘their fair share’ from the ruling class. A conservative government is about helping ALL people to help themselves where a liberal government is about creating dependents who will vote for larger government in hopes of getting more freebies. Conservatives are not afraid of competition in a free market, while liberals seek government protection from ever having to earn a living. Conservatives want maximum freedom and liberty for ALL, while liberals have two sets of rules: maximum freedom for the ruling class, and restrictive freedom and liberty for the dependency classes (thought by both to be a fair trade for government protection). Finally, regarding the ‘disconnect’ comment, understand that Obama’s mantra against the ‘failed policies of the last 8 years’ just kind of hangs there as a catch-all for whatever people are unhappy about. Assuming, however, we’re talking about the present financial crisis, all that was primarily the work of Jimmy Carter, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and Bill Clinton as they sought to create an entitlement program for home-owners: the idea that everyone gets a hundred thousand dollar house whether they can afford it or not. Over the years, Bush, and other republicans, tried to stop it but were defeated by congressional democrats. No one can really dispute that it was the failed policies of the above democrats that structured the GSEs (e.g., Fanny Mae, et. Al), AIG, Wall Street and the big banks of Citi-Group and BoA to fail in a way that threatens the entire global credit markets. Bush and the republicans con only be faulted for not trying harder to stop it. Anon

twisted thinking

Learn to spell, it is definition. I don't know where your definition comes from, but I have never heard such twisted rhetoric! Your beloved W, and the corporate, oil and banking cartels that stole 2 elections for him, are the ones that created this mess. They took our money and put it in their off shore accounts. They did not do one good thing for the people of this country. Now that someone is trying to fix it, you're complaining that they just want to take your money! Hello! Your guys already did! And just hand over billions with no accountability!? They just looted our treasury! That's what it was all about. Transfer of wealth from the poor and middle class to the wealthy! We need to get rid of the Fed, get rid of lobbyists, reform campaign finance, cut the military budget, and get to work to build this country back to the prosperity of the 50's and 60's, when we MADE things! To SELL to other countries! When we had a flourishing middle class, and people could afford to buy a home. The last 8 years, thank GOD it's over! drove this country into the ground, we are on our way to becoming a 3rd world country! How come all that spending was ok when you're guys were stuffing it in their pockets, but now that someone wants to actually use the money to help people in this country it is a travesty! I don't get it.

Via the Stimulus

Let's take a few bucks of that stimulus money and send telegrams to the republican congress people stating, YOU LOST! These whimps cling to the last 8 years like teddy bears. They continue to think and act like they are in the majority. Its almost embarrassing. Somebody please get through to them and their pundits that they are all now irrelevant.

VIA THE STIMULUS

IF THE "REPUBLICAN CONGRESS PEOPLE" REALLY LOST, WHY ARE THEY STILL IN CONGRESS? APPARENTLY, IT HAS BEEN FORGOTTEN THAT MANY REPUBLICANS AND INDEPENDENTS VOTED FOR OBAMA. THESE REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO SPEAK FOR THE PEOPLE WHO VOTED THEM IN. AS A DEMOCRAT, SHOULDN'T YOU BE LIBERAL ENOUGH TO RESPECT OTHER VIEWS? THEY PROBABLY WON'T GET ANY OF THEIR AGENDAS PASSED, BUT THIS IS STILL AMERICA AND THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO TRY. IT ALSO GIVES CLOSEMINDED PEOPLE A CHANCE TO REACT! LET THEM CONTINUE TO THINK AND ACT LIKE THEY ARE THE MAJORITY. WHAT'S IT GOING TO HURT? THEY CAN'T ACCOMPLISH MUCH AND OBAMA IS SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT GIVING THEM A SAY MAY PAVE THE PATH TO BIPARTIANSHIP. WHETHER WE LIKE IT OR NOT, THEY ARE STILL AMERICANS.

These traitors are not Americans

I don't consider obstructionists who do nothing but put down a president who is trying to dig us out of a hole that they created over the last 8 years to be true Americans. When republicans in congress change and amend legislation to their liking, then turn around and vote it down regardless, something is very wrong with their agendas. This country is swirling down the drain and republicans are clearly demonstrating that obstruction is more important than saving the nation and American people. After all, wasn't it republican leader, Grover Norquist who said, "My goal is to cut government in half in twenty-five years, to get it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub." Pretty treasonist statement when you actually analyze it. When you destroy the US government, you will have destroyed the country. And the ditto headed republicans have made this their mantra. Seems the republicans have been working for at least 8 years to enact Norquist's idea of destroying the US and its government. I have absolutely no respect for such traitors. Traitors are not Americans.

States Rights First!

Big Fed must die! Individual rights must reign. Neither the Neocons nor Liberals support this truth! WAKE UP! Stop taking half my income and giving it away. Let me be charitable. This is what strengthens the human soul. Mankind is inherently GOOD if left alone. Charity...not Welfare.

George Will

Just can't wait to hear George Will try to explain this CPAC "Knowledge-Fest" on Sunday. Should be interesting to hear him ramble on about the future of his party.

Rush Limbaugh is a joke but nothing to laugh about.

I have never known anyone, conservative, middle of the road, or liberal, who listened to Rush Limbaugh for any reason other than to laugh at his inane and stupid cruelty. I have never listened to him because I've always thought that allowing evil to influence you in any way is dangerous. The people who pay him to spout his crap are only interested in profit and they don't care if our country is destroyed as long as they're making money. It is evident that Limbaugh indulges in most, if not all, of the deadly sins. I have never met a true disciple of his and I dearly hope I never do. The only way to diminish this buffoon is to hit his sponsors where it hurts them most. Don't listen, don't watch, don't buy.

Fearing speech

Your fear of free speech is disconcerting. I don't listen to Neocommie Limbaugh...I MONITOR his treasonous speech. This way I know how the enemy thinks. Burying your head in the sand leaves your behind exposed! Neocons are NOT conservative. They are commies with money who wish to SPREAD their sick ideology. True conservatives work to PRESERVE freedom by example...not spread it like it's a disease. Wake up and unite against the false left/right paradighm.

I don't fear free speech but his speech is not free.

He makes millions of dollars to spew his bile. If he were on a street corner somewhere I would defend his right to spew but he has a bully pulpit to spread his hate. My head is not buried in the sand and if you didn't spend so much time calling people names maybe some of your valid points would not get lost in the muck.

Of course he's opinionated,

Of course he's opinionated, and a braggart; and like most people, cling only to their own ideas. But P.T. Limbaugh manages to entertain in the process. If he didn't, he'd lose his audience -no matter how much they admire him. But if a person doesn't like someone or something, it's entirely their right to protest with dignity. Like what I'm doing to that maker of corn flakes for canning their Olympic Gold Medal spokesman.

Be Careful

The Germans made fun of Hitler back in the day, before he took over and became a dictator. Limbaugh and his ilk are no laughing matter. They should be taken very seriously. I have known some Limbaugh ditto-heads. One thought that the U.S.owned the airspace over China. You wouldn't believe what some of these people believe and how terrified they are. Terrified people are dangerous people, in the extreme. They bear watching.

A slight correction...

It was the Nazi party the Germans were getting fed up with. But Hitler, they continued to support. Hmmm, sounds famil..?! In the present case, Obama is sustaining his high approval ratings, which includes the approval most of the world and 30-40% of the enemy! Obama the Conqueror? Actually he may be on the verge of topping Genghis or Alexander's record for most square miles conquered. Nationalism is not terrorism. And an adversary is not an enemy.

How do you know you never

How do you know you never met a "disciple" of Limbaugh? You surely don't have the guts to ask and certainly seem to suffer from the same judgmental cowardice as all those who have "never" listened to him. What's the matter? Afraid some common sense and inspirational thought might seep through that dull patina of liberalism? As always, those of you who would preach tolerance are the least so. By the way...now you've met one. And I call myself a fan.

You don't know me at all...

...yet you attack me. Sounds like your man Rush. And another talent you have in common: your ability to speak out of both sides of your mouth. You attack my tolerance while demonstrating your utter lack of tolerance. By the way, you are mistaken - we have not "met" and, based on the quality of your posts here, I sincerely hope we never do.

Rush and his fans

I listen to Rush all the time when I am tooling about town doing my shopping and running errands....I listen to see what idiotic crap is going to come out of his mouth next. And I would be ashamed to call myself anyone's dittohead cause I have a mind of my own and I USE it.

I listened to him back in

I listened to him back in the 90's until one day he called Chelsea Clinton the white house dog. That was the end for me. I found nothing amusing about a middle-aged man making fun of a teenager. It is cruel and beyond childish. If Anonymous calls that common sense and inspirational thought, he's welcome to be a fan as long as he wishes to wallow in the gutter. But in my world adult men do not make fun of little girls by calling them dogs.

Rush

They are all paid talking mouth's period, cheap intertainment like Jerry Springer, contributors to the dumbing down of America.
