In answering the question about whether McCain would welcome Spain President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, McCain mentions Mexican President Felipe Calderón, this hemisphere, and Latin America.

McCain foreign policy adviser Randy Sheunemann said McCain's answer was intentional. If that is true, it wouldn't explain the befuddlement with the answer. But listen for yourself, see what you think.

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT

Republic or Kingdom....

Sorry but there is NO president Zapatero..... Why not? Because Spain is a Kingdom, and has a King as Head of State, His Majesty King Juan Carlos, were the Prime Minister is Zapatero..... It thus does not disqualify the rightwing ignoramus McCain to not know were the President of Spain would be invited or received....... Other things disqualify him even without that!

El Presidente del Gobierno.

El Presidente del Gobierno. It's the Spanish, stupid.

Interesting that the Interviewer also said "President"

rather than "Prime Minister". According to WikiAnswers , either both are valid titles, or "President" is the correct honorific for Señor Zapatero.

Though until I looked it up, masteradrian, I thought you had the right of it - the elected Head of Government of a Constitutional Monarchy is usually called "Prime Minister"...though that may be because most Constitutional Monarchies have a parliamentary legislature.

Anyone else know more about this than I do?

Rubbish

WikiAnswers may say so, but nobody werever there is a King (or Queen) Head of State will ever refer to the First Minister of a goverment as President, perhaps Chairman of the Secretaries to the Crown, but never as President, as that would make the country a republic...... Asto the interviewer: being an interviewer doesn't automatically make one an expert....... The Netherlands (were I live) is a Constitutional Monarchy has a goverment with a Prime (First) Minister, as does every Monarchy. But if if u rather believe an ill-informed idiot, no problem....

Ummm....No. "El Presidente" is correct.

Spain's prime minister is called El Presidente del Gobierno in Spanish. You know...their language, not ours. Therefore, "President" is a perfectly good translation. (Obviously the previous comment was written by Sarah Palin. She can 'see' Spain from her house.) http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidente_del_Gobierno_de_Espa%C3%B1a It's the freakin' title of the Spanish wiki's article on their president, for christsakes.

W/apologies to Lerner&Lowe and Rex Harrison

./~ McCain in Spain ./~
./~ Falls Mainly on the PA-lin ./~

By George - I think he's got it!

;)

logical explanation

He knows where Spain is. He is dissing them because he is holding Bush's grudge against them for no longer supporting the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq. In other words: Spain is the new France.

Logical explanation: He's a complete moron

This isn't the first time McCain has gotten confused regarding diplomatic matters. He's George W. Bush, only older and more impulsive. If he's elected, say hello to four more years of international embarrassment. (He's older than Reagan was when he took office, and he was a vegetable by the time his second term was up.)

McSame and Palin begin looking like KING LEER & regan

lol
