Well, based on the first polling about how the American people liked the State of the Union address (CBS:  Obama 78% approval), I would have to admit that Obama "hit" a nerve with most people, in a positive way.  We, Progressives, are NEVER going to like it when the majority of people agree on something, because we are NOT the majority.  We are way out ahead of the curve (where we SHOULD be if we have any illusions about "leading") but, we are not going to be happy most of the time.  It seems to me that there are very few moments in history when "change" takes place all at once.  "Change" resulting in the Civil Rights Act of 1964, for example, did NOT happen suddenly.  Actually, it took about a hundred years.

   So, if Obama is to bring about "change" in the time that we Progessives demand, it means that WE must move in every state, at every level, to push the Republicans OUT of power.  He said it right last night when he stated that he cannot do it alone.  He cannot.  No one can.  

   To the extent that we Progressives give up on him because we can't stand the slow pace, the compromises he makes, or REALIZE the evil he confronts, is the extent that we give it all up because we succumb to our own frustration.  This situation is not "patty-cake".  This situation we find ourselves in demands what Obama keeps telling us it demands:  a long term, consistent, persistent, practical commitment to our values.  President Obama is NOT candidate Obama.  He is now President of ALL Americans and he is trying to make that clear.  There is a DIFFERENCE between being a candidate and being a PRESIDENT.  W. never did that.  He simply rammed down our throats every single thing the Republican Party and his corporate sponsors wanted, and he got away with it.  We GOT the change we wanted when we elected Obama and now it is up to us to face the reality of the evil, we always claimed to know in the first place, and stop acting like all you have to do is vote in order to defeat this entrenched, vital, alive, and truly evil situation that faces him, and us.
