Craven New GOP Talking Points: Higher Taxation is Just Like the Holocaust

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS
by Meg White

Last time I checked, I was not living in Nazi Germany.

But according to anti-tax activists, we're all standing in line for the gas chambers.

Yesterday, Glenn Beck pronounced capitalism dead and himself dead wrong. Raving in front of a huge screen showing old films of Nazi rallies, Beck said it's not communism or socialism we're heading toward, it's "fascism with a happy face."

Watch Think Progress' compilation:

In the video, Beck references the Tea Party movement. This is a group of people who plan to show their opposition to high taxation and big government by getting together on April 15 to protest.

On one online Tea Party forum, a poster who goes by "Doc" expressed disgust with the idea that Tax Day protesters were actually applying for permits from the government to protest.

(You can see the whole discussion here. It's worth a read if only to illustrate how these people see outside perception as an important tool to gather more support. For instance, one poster tells Doc violence will make it harder to recruit moderates commenting that "if there's too much of an uprising at this point (arrests, physical attacks, etc.) it could desuade [sic] a lot of people that might otherwise get involved" but that "if there still doesn't appear to be much affect [sic] in stalling the Communist agenda, I'd have to say other options may be necessary.")

In his advocacy for a proper protest, which he equates with those at the G20 conference this week, Doc evoked images of slavery:

Maybe I'm confused.

I thought we wanted to remind the federal government that WE are the boss and they are the servants. I thought we were angry at being abused by them and upset that they seem to view us as their niggers. They treat us as if we owe them our very survival and are dependent upon them, and that they can do as they will with our lives, our freedoms, our fortunes because they believe they own us.

...as well as Nazism:

Or maybe you'd have been amongst the Jews in Warsaw who didn't want to take up arms against their captors? There were literally hundreds of thousands of people in Europe during WWII who felt it was improper to use force to meet the force used to herd them into boxcars and to their eventual deaths...

I am old and fat. I own a small business and have been married for almost 23 years. I certainly don't relish the idea of rioting in the street. I will get trampled, I will get tear-gassed, I will be beaten, and I don't want to be!

But I'll be damned if I'll go placidly to the box-cars!

...all in the name of advocating violence to make a political point.

This is almost as bad as comparing Obama's expansion of Americorps to the establishment of the Hitler Youth, which was downright disgusting.

Not only is this hyperventilating embarrassing and counterproductive, it's also terribly offensive. I imagine anyone who went through the terrible experience of the Holocaust or slavery would have difficulty seeing exactly how their torturous experience is in any way comparable to having one's taxes increased.

Do your homework before spouting off!

Dear Ms. White:

You have mischaracterized my post on Obama's plans for the expansion of Americorps.  By taking one throwaway sentence from an entire post discussing the merits of national service and a conscript type program focused on such service, you are failing to advance the discussion of the problems that we have in this country.  Indeed, it is your type of drive-by journalism that makes the coherent discussion of issues impossible.

For the record, I have not, was not, and am not equating any Obama initiative or even higher taxes to Nazi Germany and the Holocaust and I take great offense that you are putting words in my mouth.  It is a shame that you are incapable of higher level thought on this issue.  Please educate yourself about the conscription of voluntary national service movements before you spout off like you have.  I did my research and now it is time for you to do yours.  If I thought that you were capable of apologizing, I would demand it.  I would also demand that you remove this inaccurate and highly offensive reference to my blog.

On watching Beck's sideshow I got a feeling I've seen this before, but couldn't place where or when.I thought maybe and old movie or TV show (Twilight Zone, Outter Limits, a Luis Bunnel movie, Fellini?). I couldn't place it. Then this morning after a bad dream during the night it hit me . When I was about six I had a bad fever. The fever dreams where just like this .Wierd visual perspectives like giant miscolored faces. Loud noises that don't seem to belong with the action. A talking head that sounds desperate and frighting but when you try to understand whats being said, it's just nonsense. This REALLY creeps me out! You know our basic humanity is slipping when political discourse is on the same level as a sick child's nightmars.

Historic incitement

Yah, and I just met a refugee named, "Tax Cuts". Or why not Tax Mr. Cuts? All the while the U.N. is attempting to legalize, not RELIGION but the 'outcome' of your standing up against it. Constantine would blush, no?

OK I'll bite

He should have stopped after the first paragraph, after dropping the first word. "I'm confused." Finally, he makes sense.

sounds familiar

WAR IS PEACE; FREEDOM IS SLAVERY; IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH I remember when Dan Quayle defended his poor spelling (compared to elementary school students in a public school) by saying he felt sorry for anyone who only knew one way to spell a word. We have been set upon by many who do not want us to trust our own senses, knowledge, reason, or memory. It is very difficult to operate without access to information, and some would have us rely upon what they say rather than reality. I trust that their days of unfettered access to the public airwaves are numbered.

And the Fairness Doctrine?

They've been whining and crying about "losing conservative voices" for so long, I think we should consider actually recreating it, just to help 'em out. After all, I'm sure they'd feel a lot better complaining about something that actually happened than something totally made-up...

Holocaust analogy

Remember it was the Rethuglicans who have started this pissing contest. The more proper comparison of Holocaust would be those entire economic and illegal war policies of the most evil and corrupt family, the Bush family (literally for generations) and the Administrations they spawned can be likened to those no more evil bastards who attended the infamous Wannsee Conference to formulate the "Final Solution to the Jewish Problem". The Bush family for generations and the recent Bush Administration in particular to have brought as much if not more suffering to more innocent people world wide than Nazi Germany did in the Holocaust. Any alleged Republican who does not rebuke the current cabal of the most perverse group of misanthropes ever to slime the hall of Congress and treat them as the rotting syph sores that they are should be destined for a level in hell that Dante could not have imaged in his worst nightmare. Terms such as vile; maggoty putrefaction; stinking, rotting offal; a gut wrenching odoriferous lake of liquid pig feces; tons of steaming elephant dung are not sufficiently descriptive of the babbling band of corporatist oligarchophilic bumlickers.

It is truly written in the sand of time...
One must never spit in a man's face...
Unless, of course, his mustache is on fire.

The Skeptical Cynic hath spake!

Let's see...

A 3% increase in the maximum tax rate and the Murder of 6 million people. Yeah, it seems about the same.

Lets give the Conservatives

Lets give the Conservatives something to cry about - health care reform can be the Inquisition - the pullout from Iraq can be the rise of the Iron Curtain - student loan rate cuts can be the Sack of Rome - fuel efficiency can be slavery.
