Fired U.S. Attorneys led the Nation in Convictions. No Wonder the Bush Administration was Worried!
A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS
Every day, the explanations for the firings of the eight U.S. attorneys are becoming less about competence and more about corruption. Some new statistics show that the prosecutors were in fact leading the nation in output:
- Six ranked in the top third of all U.S. attorneys for prosecutions, filing a combined 106,188 last year alone
- Five ranked in the top third for convictions, achieving 98,939
- Three were among the top five in the number of immigration prosecutions (including Carol Lam, whose firing was attributed to immigration by Karl Rove)
Now these were some busy folks. It is almost a wonder that the fired U.S. attorneys had the time to take the phone calls notifying them of their dismissals.
If these U.S. attorneys were deemed expendable after leading the nation in prosecutorial output, what have the underperformers been doing to keep their jobs? If prosecutions and convictions don’t matter, what does?
Apparently less is more when it comes to following the law for this anti-Constitution administration. Especially when the investigations are hitting a little too close to home.

Firing US Attorneys & "The Noble Lie"
from Rrrandy Wurst--
The forgotten point regarding the firing of these very productive US attorneys is that they are being trashed for a very sound reason: their actions run counter to the "greater good." This is determined by those who run the country...so long as those who run the country remain right wing. Sirs Bush, Gonzales, Cheney, et.al. get to determine what is true even if it's a lie (such as the productivity of these US Attorneys). This tactic is a broad extension of what Plato called The Noble Lie (again, justified by "the greater good"), only our present administration has broadened it to the plural. (Think of noble lies breeding in a rabbit warren.) "Noble lies" are the modus operandi of the Neocon world view and philosophy. We are all safer for such lies....Aren't we?
Constitutional confrontation? We need impeachment!
citizen one
Bush will claim "executive privilege" and the subpoena effort will go to court for review.
Even if the court decides the aides must testify under oath, an appeal can carry the matter into the middle of 2009, long after Bush's term ends.
Congress is fumbling with a major problem that can only be resolved by beginning impeachment proceedings...now long overdue!
Our system of checks and balances is tied up in knots, all because the Constitution has been ignored or circumvented. Surprisingly,as Pogo surmised, "We have met the enemy and he is us." How pathetic this is!
The "executive privilege" solution
All we have to do is keep repeating a few things.
Keep asking - "Why are they afraid to be under oath? What are they trying to hide? Unless they plan to lie there isn't any reason not to be under oath?
Let them tie things up for a while. Just keep repeating those same questions and make sure every time the issue comes up that those questions are burning in everyone's head.
I'm just sayin'...

Krugman was the first to bring up the notion about the disparity of the 7 to 1 in investigations of dem to repubs and just what might have coerced prosecutors into such lopsided inquiries.
But, indeed it is becoming clear to anyone with the I.Q. higher than freshly cut grass just how much of a political animal bush is.
The similarities to what bush is doing and what was done when hitler took power are chilling. hitler too purged the courts by replacing ethical prosecutors and judges with political hacks. hitler, like bush and gonzales, also never took notes that might later incriminate him.
