Rove's "Divide and Conquer" Election Strategy Finally Catches Up With Him
A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS
Karl Rove is a smart guy. He got a much dumber man into the White House - twice - while securing several Republican Congresses. For years, his strategy of appealing only to the most zealous right-wingers while ignoring everyone else won elections. However, the results of the 2006 midterms have proven that this "divide and conquer" approach will only work for so long.
Rove knows that as long as you merely call yourself a Republican and a Christian, you can literally get away with murder (among other things). There are enough stupid and ignorant people out there who will rubber-stamp just about anything unquestioningly, and it is possible to win by simply being so radical that these people will show up to vote.
In 2004 Bush won the closest reelection in American history with this strategy, and we all remember his gloating: "I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it." True to his word, he certainly withdrew plenty from his capital. . . not to mention from our treasury.
But sooner or later, everyone has to pay the piper. From Iraq to the national debt, Bush sunk this country down a hole from which it will take many years to recover. One congressman told BuzzFlash that he feels sorry for whoever becomes our next president because he or she will inherit such monumental problems. Bush's failures were destined to be exposed; one of the most significant victories of this election is that Bush himself is being held accountable.
Call it justice, karma, or even retribution. Voters across the nation are furious at Bush and those who support him for wrecking the nation. Yes, the die-hard Republican base is still active, but moderates and even many (relatively) sane conservatives stood up with liberals yesterday to reject Rovian division. There is a reason Barack Obama's book The Audacity of Hope is the #1 best-selling nonfiction book right now. The American people desperately need the unity and inspiration that Bush told us he would bring six years ago.
Republicans are trying to displace blame for the election results. The observation that midterms often go against the president's party seems to be a popular excuse. But the truth is that this election was ultimately a rejection of Bush's failed policies and leadership that stemmed from "divide and conquer," along with the resulting culture of corruption that has plagued Washington. Another excuse given by Bush today was that most races were about the candidates, not Bush's policies. But Democrats did not lose a single seat in the House or Senate. Even all six gubernatorial shifts went from red to blue. This was no coincidence.
Much like with Bush, the legacy of Karl Rove is crumbling before our eyes. Rove's strategy promised infallible success at the polls, regardless of the grim realities surrounding an election. His model certainly seemed to be working, and a final triumph would have perhaps solidified his genius. Instead, the American people handed him what Tom DeLay is calling a "Texas whupping," and his man will spend the last quarter of his presidency a lame duck without an ounce of political capital or either house of Congress. Had Bush truly been a "uniter not a divider," he would likely have had reason to be as cocky at his press conference this afternoon as he was two years ago.
It may be impossible to make all the people happy all the time, but that does not make it all right to repudiate the president's obligation to at least try to govern with respect to all Americans. People outside the radical Religious Right live in this country too, and we vote.

Arrogant
Arrogance is a wonderful thing when you call fool enough people. Rove and his pals ran out of people to fool. Now lets all pray that the Dems can be productive and American. This said, won't it be sad when the Dems conspire with Bush to keep our borders open to aliens and terrorists and grant anyone standing the right to vote! Isn't it nice to think that the USA will soon be governed by anyone who happens to be in our country and wants to vote! Makes you puke don't it.
fed up on the local level, too
Across the country, legislatures changed from Republican dominance to Democratic. In Oregon, we finally have a Democratic legislature AND a Democratic governor, and now maybe we can dig our state out of the slough that Republican "leadership" has dumped us into.
I WOULD LIKE MORE ATHLETES IN THE WHITE HOUSE
NOT JUST ONLY BUSINESS PEOPLE-BUT ATHELTES AND MUSICIANS AND MODELS DANCERS ETC.. ABOUT DEMOCRATS VS REPUBLICANS-I HAVE BEEN HAVING A POLITICAL BATTLE FOR A VERY LONG TIME. I THOUGHT IT STARTED IN TEXAS. WHEN I CAME BACK TO THE UNVIVERSITY AS A DANCE MAJOR-TO PROVE THAT MY EMPLOYMENT ESPECIALLY AS A DANCER WAS BEING TAMPERED WITH- I REALIZE IT STARTED RIGHT HERE IN A DEMOCRATIC STATE OF LOUISIANA. YES-THE DANCE INSTRUCTORS HAD THEIR OWN PERSONAL VEGEANCES-I WAS PROVING THAT HOW FLEXIBLE AND GOOD YOU ARE DEPENDS ON HOW HARD YOU WORK AT-AND THEY GOT THEIR WITNESSES WHO SHOULD NOT HAD BEEN PASSE A LEVEL TWO BALLET CLASS-THEY HAD A VERY WEAK CENTER-COME STAND BEHIND ME AT THE BARRE SO THE INSTRUCTORS HAD "EVIDENCE" OF MY LACK OF DANCE TECHNIQUE. I WAS SHOWING THE FACTS THAT EVERYTHING THEY WERE TEACHING WAS OUT OF BOOKS. THEIR IS SOME ARRANGEMENTS THAT WAS MADE IN THIS DEMOCRATIC STATE WITH RUSSIA-BEFORE I LEFT TO GO TO TEXAS. HOWEVER BEFORE THAT, I REMEMBERED SOME THINGS THAT OCCURRED IN SCHOOL-THE SCHOOL PRINCIPLES SHOULD BE IN PRISON-ONE SHOT AND KILLED HIMSELF WHEN THE TEXAS RANGERS WERE INVESTIGATING MY RECORDS. I BELIEVE THAT JOHN BREAUX AND EDWIN EDWARDS WERE MAKING SOME SHADY AGREEMENTS WITH THE FEDS TO GET MONEY FOR CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS. I BELIEVE THEY HAVE BEEN DOING THAT WITH A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE-OVER HERE IN LOUISIANA-PEOPLE THINK UNIFORMED COPS ARE GOD-AND ABOVE THE LAW. SO THEY WILL NOT QUESTION ANYTHING THEY FIND SUSPICOUS-THEY JUST FOLLOW ORDERS LIKE A BUNCH OF PUPPETS. TEXAS HAS DONE MORE THEN ITS FAIR SHARE OF MISUSING MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER-THAT WAS TWC. IF OTHER ADULTS WANT TO DO ATHLETIC STEROIDS-I DO NOT CARE-THAT IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND OUT THE RISKS.
I AM REQEUSTING THAT ATHLETES BE PUT IN THE WHITE HOUSE. SUCH AS FITNESS COMPETITORS,AND SOMEONE WHO KNOWS ABOUT AND WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT THESE ILLEGAL STEROIDS COMING IN THE COUNTRY. BECAUSE SOMEONE AT THE WORKOUT STUDIO IN BEAUMONT TX THINKS I OVERHEARD SOMETHING ABOUT THIS-AND FINANCIAL CRIMES. I WANT SOMEONE IN THE WHITE HOUSE WHO WOULD CLEAR THIS DISCREPENCY UP. I DID NOT HEAR OR SEE ANYTHING-AND I BELIEVE SOMEONE FROM LOUISIANA MADE SOME BELIEVE I HEARD THIS.

What are you talking about?
Ah just so ya know...
Typing in capital letters is akin to shouting, and really isn't necessary.
A Right to be Heard
In the last two elections, I felt that no one was listening. This election turned the tables. We were heard even here in Delaware. The Republican ads touting their AG were the nastiest ever. However, the Democrat won. We were not only getting fed-up on the national level, but on the local level as well. Thank God.
